I like the Rocket III but stay away if you live in the states, not enough dealers for support if needed. Last year on the way to daytona, my friend had a hell of a time finding a dealer. I couldnt keep up with him on my victory hammer s but at least I found a dealer when my belt broke.
both bikes are ugly but the trumpit is butt ugly with a tractor motor to boot and many CC larger than the vmax and still can not compare to the Japanese engineering.
actually rocket3 engine has the potential to produce 200+ hp. only if they raise the compression ratio from 9:1 to 11+:1. it will increase the torque numbers as well. i like rocket anyways. it has that classy look
Jeez, how come you never mentioned the Triumph has a speed limiter because it is a touring machine, and one that only requires 2 brain cells to remove?
With Triumph Off Road Exhaust, Triple K&N filters, secondary throttle plates removed and a Power Commander I'm getting 150hp and 158fpt at the rear wheel on my '08 Standard. It doesn't take much to unleash the potential of the Rocket III I assure you.
It is all about the torque, having all that available throughout the rpm range from idle is a fantastic feeling.
Both bikes are cool but I prefer the Rocket. I like the way it looks. Last weekend, I did a test ride and it was fun. I am 6.3" and the riding position is very confortable.
In terms of price, the 2010 Rocket roadsters are $13.999 MSRP, but the 2011 models are $14.999 MSRP. Triumph increased the MSRP because there is a lot of demand on it.
Rocket to the drag strip? Why? Anything with a big motor I guess a yankee has to drag to the strip...I s'pose. These two bikes dont play in the same playground, different missions, the only thing in common is that they are big, bad and differnt. I'd choose the rocket tho, I sat on the v-max at the auto show, those scoops splay my long shanks uncomfortably, the sitting is too "standard" and not that comforatble. i suppose the HP is undeniable as is the sweet mil and $20k, but Rocket here I come..
both very cool bikes but i just dont see them as real races bikes i mean yea it can run a 10 second 1/4 but with its weight its not to practical. i think the triumph looks great with those headers though.
@pigsbladder A Vmax will only get around 100 miles per tank but it got all that power (they can run as fast as 0-60 mph in 2.5 sec and 1/4's in 10.10's stock) its like a muscle car, and yeah the Vmax might have to stop for gas more offen but the others will have a hell of a time catching up!
one of my instructors at wyotech had a rocket 3 with a SMALL turbo, still made almost 200 hp and 160 tq. same guy had an older carbed v max, with a supercharger. the bike needed so much fuel to run he installed a holly 4 barrel carb. the fucking thing made 242 ft tq. he also had a bunch of super chargered harley and they all had at least 130 tq. guy knew his shit.

@steady2wheels But that's the point, Yamaha doesn't want me or you to have it, they sell fewer at a higher price, it gets kinda exclusive and they make a BIG profit, it's like an MV Agusta, it's not worth the price it costs, but so what !?
I love the looks on the Vmax, as I like the looks on my neighbor's wife, it's there just to be admired, meanwhile the guy rides it along
@cmtegaravello well that's just not fair! Yeah I agree I would love to have one also, damn yamaha. Any idea how well these actually sell? because I am yet to see one of the nwe ones over here
@steady2wheels I really don't know how many of those they sell but I bet is more than the Triumph Rocket or the B-King, still I've been to the Biketoberfest this month in Daytona and honest to God I saw ONE, not that I was looking around for it but I saw only one and damn, people were breaking necks to get a glimpse of it !
But that's a harley kinda event, Bike Week next year I bet we are going to have more around...
6000 dollar difference!!!!!!

He says 165 horses from the Vmax...this is DEF TRUE...cause I dyno-d my 2009 Canadian bike, with an Acrypovic exhaust and got 174...

i wish triumph didnt down-tune the engine as much, 140hp is nothing out of a 2.3ltr engine.
ArtoDelFunko 9 months ago
@ArtoDelFunko its about torque - he sais it 64. times
lamilumag 9 months ago
@lamilumag yeah but you'd have more torque if you tuned it a bit
ArtoDelFunko 9 months ago
@ArtoDelFunko don't tell me 140hp and 221nm isn't enough for you ^^

There is no comparing any bike to the VMAX!
Also the vmax never got over 100 miles to the tank so Im used to it.

less than 100 miles for 20k is unforgivable. Even with all that performace your friends are going to pass you at the gas station.
