Because the filmakers wanted you to realise he was ending people lives in a sudden and uncaring way, which is a horrible thing.

From Dr. M's perspective he sees no difference in a dead body and living, he doesn't even consider blood and gore or whether exploding a body is a worse death than shooting them in the heart. To him its all the same.
