If your talking about the ammo shortage of 07-09, then its simply demand vs. production. There was a HUGE amount of demand in a very short time, something rarely experienced. There was just a shortage of ammo to go around and keep in supply. Normally ammo would sell at a fairly constant rate, and any shortage could easily be replenished as needed. When suddenly everyone and their brother starts buying, theres just not enough out there. Everytime it restocks, it gets resold and its gone.

The surplus marked is affected by the law. In the old days a lot of ammo in storage was tested once in a while to see if it was in the black as far as the army spec was concerned. If it was not it was then removed from inventory and sold to outside dealer. Then some smarty pants decided to burn it up. That was my tax money going up in smoke. O, wait. That means I payed for it once to be made and then again for it to be destroyed.

Ran out of character space... since Congress knows gun control will not likely occur, then control the ammo production, then you don't have to fight for tight gun control. Own all the guns you want, cause there will be NO ammo available, you can throw at someone. Work must be done to make sure that ammo control does not happen, but I heard that this ammo configuration change will occur this November.

Before you speak too highly of Lake City, think about this; they are owned by the US military, the military is "controlled" by Congress. In otherwords, Congress can dictate what and how small arms ammo is made. The military will soon be asking that 9mm primer cups be enlarged for military use, this ammo will replace current 9mm ammo, and the new "cup size" will be for military use ONLY. No, they will NOT continue making the current size cups, therefore no more 9mm for sale for civilian use.

As interesting as this is, I learnt absolutely nothing from it. I didn't see a single casing being made, or a bullet being made, or the powder, or them being put together. Ok all these things probably happen deep inside a machine somewhere, but it would be nice to know how they are made.
