It is pre-Python. It was written by Terry Jones and Michael Palin whilst they were at Oxford University. It was then loaned to the Cambrige University Footlights for their "Cambridge Circus" show, starring John Cleese and Graham Cleese. You can see the sketch in full on the "Monty Python: Live at the Hollywood Bowl" film.

This is only the tip of Slapstick comedy, Toad Fanatic. But of course a very funny tip. SlapShtick (as it is also know) also came from the Keystone Cops, Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplan, Even up to Dick Van Dyke. long before the likes of the Monty Python group and Benny Hill and such. I think by that time he was up to 2 bottles a day, then he quite in 78 to do life of brian. if you look for the secret life of brian he talks about how he knew he had to quite because the other guy didnt think he could do a huge role like that unless he did.
