heart breakin stuff watchin from scotland god bless them all challenger and columbia and the rest xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
great video paul i'm a astronomer with the Asteroid/Comet Impact Prevention program we are part of the European Space Agency that day at work was a bad day alot of men and women crying "Give me a challenge, and I'll meet it with joy." They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us thanks columbia and her crew The cause in which they died will continue. to make this world a better place (ONE DAY IT WILL BE)
RIP the brave men and women astronauts of Columbia and Challenger. This touched my heart, and I hope I can become an astronaut with NASA one day, that is, if the space shuttle ever returns. I look to all astronauts as my heroes.
the disaster of this mission left me with utter devastation, it caused me to quit my aeronautics studies altogether and to pursue a career in computers, which today lets me gladly type this comment up here. thank God they abandoned the space shuttle missions. i never liked the design of this spacecraft and the person who came up with the idea. using a "budget" and words such as "cheapest design" to embark on a space mission is NOT very wise at all. what happened 2the word "SAFEST" ha... ??
DisneyMousse. If she was still alive, she would kick your *** so hard your nose would bleed. Be prejudice and stereotypical some where else man. C'mon think about it, keep stuff like that to yourself. You think she assassinated everyone on board you think? You are on crack.
what had happened now??? These egoistic labels!! Some people take time to think of the men that died there expressing values and emotions with video and music, and now this sh*t!! It was one of my favorite videos!! *angry*
"The cause was because of a tiny piece that was lost when the shuttle went into space, and when it re-entered the atmosphere, the heat from re-entry melted the frame of the wings, hitting a fuel tank, causing an explosion"
Now BEFORE you give me a thumbs down, and go through all the trouble of commenting me on how I'm an inconsiderate jerk, yeah, I know.
The cause was because of a tiny piece that was lost when the shuttle went into space, and when it re-entered the atmosphere, the heat from re-entry melted the frame of the wings, hitting a fuel tank, causing an explosion.
And yeah, if I died like that, that would really suck.
Humanity means many things, but my favourite has to be its curiosity and exploratory desire. They were explorers. Some of the first to go to space, not the last by a long shot :)
To those people arguing in the comments, shame on you. Have respect, people died.
Thanks....,this is a very nice Video,The SpaceShuttle Columbia was my Favotite of Shuttles...I know...sorry my English is not perfekt,But I hope you understand me...LG...
Lol, same here, but as long as there are at least 2 humans on Earth, there will NEVER be peace on Earth. As much as I want it, it won't happen. Think about it, you'll get what I meant.
I was deeply mortified to see this kind of thing happen again. I was in the 3rd grade when we lost Challenger. Now as an adult, those feelings of loss came back with Columbia.
There are 17 brave men and women lookin down on us. We owe them a world of thanks. That means never giving up on space travel and to continue where they left off. Science has no begining and no ending. Neither does the power of the human spirt.
I was too young to remember all of this but not as much as I viewed on here. Thank you for this.If our eyes could shed blood for tears I would be a mess right now. I did give a thumbs up to darkark . I have an agnostic perspective there is something bigger but Ive learned not to ask why things happen. If there is an afterlife explaining this to me then...would be pointless. LIFE HAPPENS ! ! ! SO ON WE GO'
i saw the blast from the Florida National Bank building in Jacksonville, Florida. That night I witnessed a strange cloud formation and fog, moving north on the St. John's River that had the strange, etheral appearance of the suited crew, walking with helmets in hand.
The conquest of space is a neverr ending challenge to all who hear the voice and heed the call. We, at our home, remember.
i have 2 pieces in a collection in our home that fell from the sky i cannot believe people tried to sell them on ebay.. im going to give them to my grand children and share with them the history of the pieces from columbia..
you should be giving thos two pieces to Nasa and maybe they can give it to one of the children who lost a parent. You shouldnt have it. even if it fell in your yard
Great video tribute to brave men and woman who gave their lives in the pursuit of Science and truth. They will always be remembered as hero's in space exploration.
Although I do find people say things like "god bless" to be a bit out of place, seeing as this "god" didn't have the for sight to save these wonderful people and let them continue living the very important and very loved lives they had. I also find it dishonors them when you say things like that.
any time i think that my life is perhaps a little too hard, or im a little too sad, or just down in general, i think of the crew of sts-107, all those before & all those who will come after, who put their lives on the line in the name of discovery, columbia was never able to complete her mission, but her mission continues in all of us today who ask questions about the unknown & who never give up in the pursuit for knowledge, god speed columbia & good night
The crew of STS-107 paid the ultamite price for the prize of knowlage and exploration. May they rest in piece with the crew of Challenger in the tranquillity of heaven and shame on all internet trolls who find this funny. They are in my mind every time I watch a shuttle launch, every time I play Orbiter, every time I hear the words "Columbia".
You are ignorant whomever you are!You laugh at our heros who died trying to excel. Excel in the many fields we partake in for our United States of America.GOD BLESS all of those scientist.History will always remember them.
walk on your foot all the way though Arizona next time when you are traveling from California to New york then we will see who is going to burn !
our fathers spent millions on research till they made airplanes.Lots of money is being spent on medical research without any hopeful results, but we can not stop doing that cuz we have to find new sources for living and cures.
i will be going to florida to see a shuttle launch before this great project ends & becomes a part of history, this is something i hold very dear to my heart & have set above all other goals in life, to be an astronaut & see the earth from above, you realise just how lucky we are, god speed & god bless, just remember, god does not play dice
these people are willing to risk their lifes to do something very dangerous. Colombia and Challenger will always be in my mind. I'll be sad when the shuttle stops on 2010
really sad actually.... A great tribue. and it's sad that they found an actual helmet of one of them. thats really sad. a day of Sorrow for all of us.
According to NASA the Astronauts of the Columbia suffocated to death when the cabin became detached from the rest of the shuttle as it began to break up.
No. The Challenger astronauts escape capsule hit the sea, crushing the crew concerned due to high impact speed. Plasma gas fragmented the fuselage of the Columbia, destroying the life support systems of the shuttle, thus suffocating it's occupants.
What escape capsule did the Challenger have? The entire crew cabin dislodged from the rest of the shuttle after it broke apart. Yes you are right if they were alive (unconscious more than likely) or dead after the break up of the shuttle the cabin hit the water crushing anyone inside.
I would like the link to the NASA's claim of stating that the plasma gas destroyed the life support system and suffocated them. Because by all accounts I believe the plasma destroyed the left wing after foam penetrated the reinforced carbon carbon on the wing's edge on its way to orbit. Thus the shuttle was sent on an uncontrolled spiral pattern going roughly Mach 19. Anyone can see the spiral pattern on the reentry video.
I just wikipedia where I see you probably saw this part taking from Wikipedia's website...
Hot gases, inaccurately described in initial reports as plasma,[3] penetrated the interior of the wing, destroying the support structure and causing the rest of the shuttle to break apart during the intense heat of re-entry."
A beautiful testament to the human spirit and a fitting tribute to those who died and did so doing something almost all of us will never experience, though in response to michaelwawee01's comment, only an American would be selfish enough to say they represented the U.S.A when they were in fact representing many cultures and nationalities from around the globe
I got to see Columbia Launch on her maiden voyage in person it was awsome to see and when people made fun of those brave astronaughts they fail to understand that each time they Launch they are reprsenting The United States of America.

isnt it funny when every body makes good comments some one is scared to make a negative one?? we all die at one point.. some very good people dont get remembered...at lease they did.. think about it.
Well that brought me down in tears I remember a friend phoned me up on that day and said the Colombia, burnt up, I was shocked stunned of the loss of the crew and shuttle. So near to home they where so near...
Wow, this is so powerful it brought tears to my eyes. My best friends life goal is to be an astronaut. We are only sophmores in high school but we know we will reach our goals. This video really makes me think... and I thank God for that.
Beauiful video. God bless those who do the hard things like what the crew of STS-107 did. It provse that there are risks and (as one insurance company once said) the worst risk is not taking any.
I posted on this video sometime ago , but i totally agree with that those completely Life is full of risks and we take them day in day out. the same is of that of the shuttle crews.
those astronauts did wut they were spose to, they did a good job and will be remembered, and especially the teacher that was on board, i feel bad for the kids the teacher was teaching but they will be a remembered group
Thanks NASA and thanks to the space shuttle crews who died doing their work (Columbia and Challenger). We will remember you forever and you'll live in our minds.
Beautifully done video. Thanks for putting it together. I'm heartened to see comments from people who care so much. I'd thought that no one was really interested in the space program any more. Much love to the Challenger and Columbia crews. Endeavor just lifted off today - come home safe!
I feel so sorry for them and their families. They didnt deserve to die. It must of been horrible, coz once i asked an RAF pilot when he did an interview at an air show. I asked him what his worst fear was. He said the plane disintergrating or catching fire inside the cockpit, which is similar to the fate of the Columbia.
I remember that day. My mom called me. It was strange for her to call before 10 on the weekend because she knows I like to sleep in. She said there was a problem with the shuttle. She said it is 20 minutes overdue for landing. She thought it would show up at any time. But I knew. Once the shuttle turns for home, there is nothing good that can cause it to be late.
By the time it passed over Dallas, where I live, the tradgedy had already occured and the film you see here was being shot. What I remember most is the sonic boom that still occured...
Very Moving , I still remember this as if it were yesterday , i made plans to watch Columbia return as i was at college in the uk where i live at the time and when they attempted to contact the shuttle so many times i knew something had gone badly wrong. no is to blame in my mind as it something you cannot predict and nasa did everything they could. Rest in peace , god's now looking after those brave astronauts
very touching and beautiful. this makes me thinking of something. Bible says "Teach us think of that we will die, so that we become intelligent." I search for a legal download of the song, but I can just find the one without the singing. Is that another song?
I think it was Mr. McCool, but I know it was in a Press Conference and part of a larger speach. Immediately afterward, Mr. Ramon repeated it in his native language. The entire, uncut press conference is on the DVD.
What you hear him say about a borderless world is beautiful. Who said that? It must definitely change your overall vision of the world to see it from upthere. Seeing as we are so small in a world so big and majestuous and yet able to do great - and terrible - things.
this song is from the lord of the rings. in Feburary 1,2003 i woke up at 7:30 A.M. and my dad went to racket ball in richardson from our old house in plano (in july 30th, 2003 we moved to murphy). my brothers woke up at the same time as me. my mom is still asleep. and our dog named Millie is either awake or asleep or resting. when the rubble like an earthquake occurred. we thought it was the terrorists. but it's space shuttle columbia. it exploded. we watched the news at 6:00 P.M. during dinner.
yeah, cool! the sound is there again :)

MajorUrsa 4 years ago 2
I posted on this video sometime ago , but i totally agree with that those completely Life is full of risks and we take them day in day out. the same is of that of the shuttle crews.

These people truly pioneers and courageous individuals. It will be a sad day in 2010 when the shuttle fleet is retired.

Godspeed Columbia.

Very touching, thank you very much for this tribute. I love the U.S space program and this is beautiful portrayal of it.

isn't it the music from Lord of the Rings? ... jesus, what a memorial... we all stand up in front of you!...

very touching and beautiful. this makes me thinking of something. Bible says "Teach us think of that we will die, so that we become intelligent." I search for a legal download of the song, but I can just find the one without the singing. Is that another song?

zorbas87 4 years ago
It is "The Breaking Of The Fellowship" from "The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring" soundtrack/score.

pmcbeetle, It was William McCool who said it after a wake-up call. The pilot on the mission. Very well said indeed.
aviaal 4 years ago
