ah yes engine 36 CLASSIC!!! The rusted nose, and this vid didnt have it but it used to have a hand drawn 36 on the nose number board. this is one of my favorite engines.
It must be a commuter train. The four main routes from the Midwest to the Pacific (Empire Builder in the north, California Zephyr in the middle, Southwest Chief just to the south, and the Sunset Limited in the south) usually run 8 or 9 cars (3 or 4 coaches, 1 diner, 1 lounge, 2 sleepers, and a crew car [a modified sleeper]).

#36 received a new nose and some paint early in 2008, according to reports. We haven't seen it yet ourselves.
