  • should leave the Grand national alone. Aintree has bent over backwards to introduce safety measures over the passed 20 years. World horse welfere and the RSPCA are working with aintree always trying to improve safety. Where was the out cry when there was 2 horse deaths at Badminton horse trials a few years ago? Horses are bred to race and the stable lads/girls spend day and night through rain or snow to look after there horses. if you dont like it then dont watch it end of story

  • It should be law that all horses entered have insurance that covers all medical expenses - including the treatment of broken legs etc and loss of that horse to competition. The injuries caused in these races are not life threatening - they just mean an end to competitive life, & the owners don't want to pay for it. Make it law - the insurance premiums will reflect exactly how dangerous it is (which is saying something in itself). Broken legs are fully treatable in horses.

  • i aint bein funny but knowin youmight have to shoot ya animal once you start this race is wrtong animal cruelty to the bloody core

dressage eventin and such is a lot more gentle to the animal

first time ive ever watched this im discusted

  • When becauseicouldntsee fell at the 2nd, My dad says.....No suprise he fell he couldnt see the fence!!! Sigh..And i backed the beast £5e/w..People who think this is cruel need to go play with there toy ponys..

  • weights out on 14th feb.... ballabriggs will be top weight so he can't win...not good enough.... 10st 4 - 11st ish usually wins the national......unless you happen to be called red rum of course.

  • I'm a vegetarian, I love animals, but for heavens sake EVERYTHING DIES and this is a beautiful sport so leave it alone!!! as "alexthemeerkat" said Thoroughbreds are born to race we should not make them sit in a stable all day!!!!!!!

  • @hahamadeyoulook1 would you like to be run to your death

  • yes but if u banned then it would be like Red Rum ever raced he won the grand national 1st 3 times and 2nd twice and horses fall becuse some are two small to jump the big jumps or thay get to tired and fall becuse thay can not go on it is not the horses folt it is just doing as u want the horse to do ( so who likes red rum ? )

  • what the hell is wrong with you people? 10000's of animals are slaughtered each day because we eat them, why do people make such a fuzz about it when a horse dies on the racetrack? at least they have a better live then the animals boxed up, waiting to be killed. i like horse racing, at least you see how beautiful and strong a horse is.

  • 2012 grand national will be awesome!

  • Maybe sports should be banned because people seriously injure themselves. Life isn't perfect. Get over it. Theres plenty of things I don't agree with in racing and other horse sports, but it comes with the territory. Did you notice the riderless horses that kept racing? I'm pretty sure they were doing that because they WANTED to. Yes, some horses (like some humans) like to push the limits. My one horse loves galloping so much that I have to tell her when she really needs to quit. It's not cruel.

  • This was my most memorable Grand National in my 34 years on this earth,I had £25 on ballabriggs at 14/1 returning £375,(at the course) I went absolutely nuts lol as you would.

Was a spur of the moment bet whilst in the que

Come on ballabriggs repeat the feat 2012

  • you against horseracing shall grow up! horses enjoy running! you should all grow up your been pathetic! if you dont like it dont watch it? grow a pair. simple as! this race has been going on for years so why stop now? and im sure the jockey put in for this so dont go to all this hospital crap. horses that dont want to run pull up anyway so just shut up yeh? had a good day at cheltenham yesterday won myself a few races, and oh there was a few fallers yesterday but none hurt. just saying. bye now.

  • i'd say big fella thanks, dont push it or ballabriggs to win <3

  • and at 7:31 as a horse died there?

  • @natgeorgiebff

Yes the horse did die there.

  • at 7:00 is that a horse on thee floor? :L :(

  • @natgeorgiebff

Yep, by the name of Ornais.

  • Racehorses are bred to race not to sit in a stable all day THERE THOURGHBREDS not welsh poneys.. so all you people trying to say racing is cruel LEAVE OUR SPORT ALONE anyway its better than golf

  • carnage... i love it

  • Well, hundreds of people die on the roads each year, so shouldnt driving be banned aswell?

  • Comment removed

  • make the fences bigger.

  • Comment removed

  • Foooooooooof the commentators make me short of breath just listening to them!

  • This isn't the place for a silly discussion on the ethics of horseracing. Let's just enjoy this great sport. Why can't the people who dislike horseracing keep their opinions to themselves and stop anoying the people that enjoy horseracing. It is afterall the race of kings. I dislike the many immigrants flocking to Britain but I don't go round up to them ant tell them to go home. This race captivates the racing world as it is the best spectacle on turf. You will never see a greater race.

  • Comment removed

  • people who go on about horse racing being cruel are morons i bet none of you have ever worked with thorughbred horses.Firstly those horses live better lives than me or you.Secondly have you seen what the alternative to putting a horse down is if it breaks it leg? it has to be drugged up and suspended from a barn rafter for 6 months after an operation even then theres no guarantee it works.Last of all they love racing they are bred for it if they didnt want to they would refuse.look up Sariska.

  • lets face it, if these horses weren't used for racing they wouldn't even be alive to start with! so shut up with all your complaining, theyve had a better life than most!

  • Heartbreaking - how ANYONE can think this is acceptable is beyond me. ANYONE supporting this abuse is a disgrace. I am so angry

  • thats not cruel... ( he said sarcasticly)

  • The don't take fence number twenty because a horse had to be put out of it's misery...x

  • What a bunch of scum bags ! The owner of these horses need have jockeys on their backs getting whipped till they drop ! ASS_HOLES

  • Horse Racing/Riding is the most dangerous sport in the world because theres nothing to protect you or hold you down. The GN is probaly the most dangerous race in the racing world but if we didnt have races like these it wouldnt be exciting! In every jump race meeting I've been to a horse falls and I been to one when it dies but a horse could die at any time, at any place, doing anything! But I defiently dont agree on the home straight when BB was getting whipped about a million times!!!

  • Ballabriggs was flogged 17 times in the final furlong... thats just not right

  • i love horses and riding them but i just think its so cruel to see horses lying around the field dead and people wipping their horses so frequently and toughly... if i ever have the slimmest chance to race in the grand national i would defenately turn the offer down, i didn't even see the winning jockey comfort or care for his horse once he had dismounted. :( anyone who enjoys this kind of cruelty is definatly mad

  • @timkim51 have u seen used a jockeys whip? its air cushioned they dont even hurt a person let alone the horse its not cruelty these horses live better lives than me or you

  • If they made the jumps smaller (have no idea how much) and more solid, would that solve a lot of problems at the fences?

  • @spiritbaltofan Making the jumps smaller would actually increase the deaths. You see, smaller fences would encourage the horses to run faster, so if they fell, they would be more likely to brake a bone. As the legendary Ginger McCain said "It's the speed that does it, not the height"

  • I love racing but Its so sad to see horses laying dead around the course

  • love the horse at 5.51 who jumps the fence. lol!

  • i also find it strange that horses are falling more and getting injured mroe these days. the fences are so soft that the horses just plough through them and fall sometimes. in the 70's when they were big and solid, horses respected them and jumped properly. little Red Rum jumped 150 GN fences and the worst he did was peck slightly in the 1977 race, i believe.

anyway, awesome race from Ballabriggs - well done Donald McCaine and RIP Ginger.

  • if racing is cruel we should ban all rodeo sports cos many horses are injured and die in those too. we could also ban eventing cos dressage horses pull tendons and such, showjumpers fall and cross country horses often fall or have heart attacks or injure themselves on jumps. carriage driving should then be banned cos horses slip on the roads or get into accidents and riding school ponies get kicked/whipped and worked too long... oh wait, that means horses can only be used for eating. SHUT UP!

  • @vixitrixalina

come on, get back to your online games or whatever but don't try to take part in the real life...such a stupid argumentation -.-

  • Comment removed

  • @vixitrixalina Rodeo is PURE ANIMAL ABUSE

  • @vixitrixalina Yes rodeo is barbaric and practised by neanderthals eating hormone filled meat stuck in the victorian ages and without passports. Using horses anywhere for human competition is wrong - there are extremely competitive people out there who will go to no end to win - dressage is incredibly cruel in the wrong hands.

  • ballabrigs <3 won me 30 pound I LOVE YOU BALLA

  • will he win another?!

  • The jockeys know the risks and the horses are bred for these races, what's the problem?

  • haha omg stfu pussies! the owners decision weather they race or not stop trying to tell other people what to do, bigots!

  • I don't know what it is, nothing makes me sad, really at all, i can watch all the sad movies, but one thing that gets me is horses getting killed, i just wince when a horse falls over...

  • time to stiffen the fences and kill the speed. its a man's sport.

  • Aaaawww I was almost crying when I saw the horse laying down at 7:00 ... :'(

  • that´s no sport, doping nearly untrained horses to be ridden into death and to guess who will die and who not -.-

it makes me really angry, how could some people think it´s funny to see these strong and noble animals suffer?

when i see such pictures, i am ashamed of being human!

  • @Bloodyfire101 what the hell. Doping?? Untrained?? Do you know anything about racing??

  • @comeonshaymen

come on, do you really think they send their best horses in a race, which they very likely won´t survive? Oo

  • @Bloodyfire101 Bloody hell mate, you know nothing about racing. Very likely??? This year was the worst I've seen for ages, but in 2010, no fatalities whatsoever. Oh, and some of them are "best horses". Tidal Bay What A Friend and In Compliance were all Grade 1 winners, while the vast majority had a Class 1 or 2 race under their belt

  • @Bloodyfire101 boo fucking hoo.... we will have a whip round and buy you a few flower arranging DVD's!!

  • Greatest sport on earth and the greatest race on earth. Hence why its called the sport of kings.

  • people keep moaning this sports has bin going for years if you dont like it dont watch it

  • im sure the dislike bar is for the two poor horses, it was sad that they died

  • Comment removed

  • Really the overcrowding can't be tackled without repercussions. People should be glad the race is as safe as it is. It could be a lot faster, like the Topham Chase, and have more trips, falls and injuries. Or longer, so the horses tire before the end and cannot run or jump accurately.

  • @ASimpleSomething WELL SAID!!!! The GN is the ultimate test of horse and jockey, and its fine as it is :)

  • @comeonshaymen

Yes, that's true. If less horses raced in the GN they'd find other races to compete in (Topham being one), causing over-crowding & bringing us back to where we started. When some say the whole GN meeting should be called off they don't seem to realise that the would-be GN runners'd go to other racing events.

Those who think racing should be banned altogether are delusional; many livelihoods would be ruined, the racehorses who no longer have use would be killed by the hundreds.

  • I actually went to the GN, 2008. I’m not full out against it. I only wish certain things were changed so it’s safer. Perhaps fences lowered just slightly, less entrants & harder punishment for overusing whips.

I don’t mind racing, it's controlled. At the end of the day racehorses are fed & cared for. It’s incomparable to the atrocities happening at Cheyenne Rodeo; if people considered what happens yearly at Cheyenne in comparison, they would likely accept racing as a gentle, compassionate sport.

  • @ASimpleSomething I apologise about my rant, but i have talked to some idiots who know nothing about racing and yet want the GN banned because of what they saw on TV, in the news, or an antoher video etc.

Cutting the number of entrants would make it safer, but that would mean more horses in the Topham Chase, which is run at a much faster pace, meaning although there would be less fatalities in the GN, there would be more in the Topham

  • @comeonshaymen Well I am glad you think so as they put a calf on its side then tie three of its legs together!!!!!! The bull ride is especially cruel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @StevieLakeSophie Yes, i hate rodeos, but i hope you can now see that the GN is a thing of beauty, a event that is cherished by a whole nation every year

  • @comeonshaymen Yes but I would still like the whip to be tapped gentler!!!!!

  • @comeonshaymen Did I specify that was in the National race? Toole was injured in the Maghull Novices Chase, held at Aintree at the GN weekend. Did I say he was supposed to be riding in the GN? No, I didn’t.

I've always regarded the GN as one of the ultimate equestrian events but when a few horses dying is normal at this race, I can no longer champion it. 1 thing to make the race safer: cut the number of entries. Eventing has adapted to be safer for horse and rider; steeplechase must do the same.

  • 2 dead horses; a jockey in a critical state in hospital; the winning horse, Ballabriggs, too exhausted and dehydrated to be ridden into the Winner's Enclosure, needing oxygen; the winning jockey banned for 5 days for excessive whip use.

And all for our entertainment. It's odd, though, how I don't find that entertaining at all.

  • @ASimpleSomething You idiot, the jockey, yuoung Peter Toole, was injured in a novice chase BEFORE the National, you twat. Toole wasnt even scheduled to have a ride in the National.

You dont know anything about racing

  • @ASimpleSomething You should take these big views and join the protestors that line the street as race goers make their way to Aintree

  • @ASimpleSomething lol stfu hippy take your head out your arse.

  • @ASimpleSomething yet you chose to watch it?..... i bet cunts like you would prefer to watch flower arranging!

  • @ASimpleSomething yet you chose to watch it?..... i bet cunts like you would prefer to watch flower arranging!

  • @40azteca whats wrong with flower arranging?

  • @ASimpleSomething thats cause ur a mong

  • @ASimpleSomething a go away ya moron bet you have never even worked with throughbred racehorses and no nothing about it at all

  • @ASimpleSomething then why watch it

  • Yes, 19 out of 40 runners. Not even half of the participants completed it and those that did faltered at many fences.

  • @comeonshaymen

I hadn’t heard of either horse until the 2011 GN. That doesn't make my words untrue, though.

My hometown organises the 'worlds greatest race'. When it’s held this not a nice place to be.

I’m not against jumping or racing but horses can’t be expected to do both simultaneously. They can’t jump 5ft in full gallop without fault; they don't have the balance they would do in canter.

  • @ASimpleSomething But they do, thats the thing. Thats why 19 completed the course!!

  • RIP Ornais and Dooney's Gate.

Killed by ignorance and love of money. This unnecessary suffering will be ended as your deaths, like so many others, help to convince the world that the way these horses tragically meet their end is undignified and unjustifiable.

All horses who die in this race - you will not die in vain.

  • @ASimpleSomething Do you know anything about racing???

I bet you never heard of Ornais or Dooneys Gate til they sadly died in the worlds greatest race

Youve probs been brainwashed Animal "Arsehole" Aid

  • I love animal rights nutjobs, they provide me with hours of entertainment. Poorly tought through arguments packed with emotive language but lacking in facts. A good laugh. I love animals, and a whole lot more than these idiots who think that horses need and want their help. Racehorses get the best care money can buy, do you think they would get that left alone in a field to die as i imagine you would prefer it to be?

  • @ZizZarkava Do you understand why they had to go around those two jumps. THERE WERE DEAD HORSES. DEAD BODYS IN THE WAY.

  • @LoonaBolti I am perfectly aware there were fatalities in the race. Unfortunately death is a sad fact of life, horses will die at some point. But they recieve the best help money can buy. A horse called The Tatling recently won a race, at the age of 14. This horse refuses to retire and becomes depressed if not racing. Horses enjoy racing you just have to watch their body language, they have a desire to win. If you don't like it don't watch it, it really is that simple.

  • @LoonaBolti Do you understand racing??

  • As someone else has said... The Grand National is the world's best sporting event, and if you dont like it, dont watch it!!

  • The racing authorities could show they cared just by starting the race later in the afternoon. That would be better for the horses and would be positive for all.

  • all you kids on here wanting the grand national banned.........go back to your crap ipod music as you know nothing about horse racing........the national first run in 1836.....should and will run forever........roll on next april.

  • @philip1mus well said.Only seems to be the national where all this stuff comes up about banning it.sure at nearly every jumps race meetings there's fallers.

  • @philip1mus Your just like comeonshayman. What do you know about horses and racing?

  • @StevieLakeSophie more than what you will ever know

  • @philip1mus oh really? SHOW OFF and you probably don't.

  • @philip1mus At least comeonshayman actually doesn't want the horses hit hard. You don't care about the horses you just want your own way!!

  • @StevieLakeSophie why are you bringing me back into this conversation .....im just counting down the days to the next grand national....just as you should be..ha ha.

  • @StevieLakeSophie Yes, i've been riding for ages!! You might know about horses, but you know nothing about racing. Stupid bitch

  • @comeonshaymen I do know quite a bit about racing actually. Plus it's only the whip that puts me off racing. If there wasn't a whip I would actually quite enjoy it!!

  • @comeonshaymen well sometimes they do and people don't even notice.

  • @StevieLakeSophie sometimes they do, but that is only a 1 in a million chance. The stewards are extremely vigilant

  • @comeonshaymen Well ok but sometimes accidents happen and the jockeys just ride over the horses and riders so if they had one chance of surviving it would have gone!!!!!!

  • @StevieLakeSophie No, quite often horses fall over other horses. It happened at the 2nd this year when Becauseicouldntsee fell and he brought down Vic Venturi, and both horses were OK. The previous year The Package fell and brought down Vic Venturi, Backstage and Nozic. Again, all horses were OK

  • @comeonshaymen Yeah but some horses die here!!

  • @comeonshaymen Hey and what about rodeos. Do you like them too?

  • @StevieLakeSophie No, rodeos ARE cruel!! But racing isnt

  • @StevieLakeSophie Oh, and i've seen in your comments to PhilipMus that youve called me comeonshaymAn. Its comeonshaymEn. An e, not an a :)

  • @comeonshaymen Yeah I'm glad you agree!!!!!!!

  • HORSES HAVE BEEN KILLED!Let me spell it out for you K-I-L-L-E-D!Poor horses!they don't wanna do this!!!!!!!!!! Oh and by the way horses have been whipped because people want them to win but the riders are lucky that the horse actually does the race for them let alone whipping them. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!POOR HORSES

  • @StevieLakeSophie U FUCKING DICKHEAD. This is the worlds best race, and sadly accidents happen. Horse love to race, to back to hugging tress, u twat

  • @comeonshaymen You are the most CRUEL person I have ever met. Fine die and get reborn into a horse and see if you want to be whipped and humiliated just for a race!

  • @StevieLakeSophie You've never met me,you cock. I'm not cruel, i love racing, and the National is the best race in the world. Have you ever seen the whip. Its padded, it doesnt hurt them.

You obv dont know about horses, so go back to whatever gutter you live in, and shut up

  • @comeonshaymen Well do you ride and if you do how long for? Because I do know about horses and you just hate the fact that you are a cold mean person

  • @comeonshaymen Oh and by the way please mind your language.

  • @comeonshaymen Yes I have seen the whip and even if it is padded have YOU seen the height and speed they bring it down at the horse?

  • @StevieLakeSophie The whip doesnt hurt them!!!! Also, they use whips in showjumping/dressage/cross country, and more or less any other event using horses. If you ride, you will know that sometimes, horses do whatever they want and not listen to you, so just giving them a tap with the whip will just get their attention

  • @comeonshaymen Yes but the jockeys do more than just give them a tap don't they?

  • @StevieLakeSophie But if they do that, they'll get punished. Jockeys aren't allowed to hit their horse hard or hit it over a certain number of times

  • HORSES HAVE BEEN KILLED!Let me spell it out for you K-I-L-L-E-D!Poor horses!they don't wanna do this!!!!!!!!!!

  • awful commentary

  • Comment removed

  • i backed the winner but had this weird feeling like after the 93 race that somehow the national didnt happen with all the controversy and missing out fences

  • cars kill animals and humans every day of the week but i dont hear anyone say ban them........people in years gone by have got along perfectly well without them. listen if you dont like what could happen during a horse race ...flat or jumps its so simple......DONT WATCH IT. people in this country are just obsessed with health and safety.... soon you wont be able to shit without asking someone if its safe to do so.

  • @philip1mus sure ! just ignore it! like you ignorants ignore everything, which is not happening to you! Cars don´t do it on PURPOSE! Humans - if you still call them like it - DO! And don´t think about safety , think about humanity before you open your ignorant mouth!

  • @kikomeqaf What is wrong with you?? Yes,cars dont kill animals on purpose, but you think that the GN is meant to kill horses?? No, it is not!!

The Grand National is the world's best sporting event, and if you dont like it, dont watch it!!

  • @comeonshaymen Nah, the Cheltenham Gold Cup is the world's best sporting event. The Grand National is by far the worse race at Aintree and has a nasty habit of pulling a sport I love into very public disrepute.

  • @comeonshaymen i did not say anything 'bout "meant to" but they do NOT do anything about it to make it more human. I watch what i want, i am not looking away if something like this crap happens!

  • @philip1mus Saying, "listen if you dont like what could happen during a horse race ...flat or jumps its so simple......DONT WATCH IT. " is like saying: "If you don't like child abuse simply don't watch it." Not watching something doesn't make it go away. Getting rid of it makes it go away.

  • @marcluc1988 But getting rid of the worlds best horse race would be supid, wouldnt it

  • @marcluc1988 you are absolutely right. An average of just under 2 deaths a year on this course since 2000 and you'd think they'd have learned by now. Im sure if Jenson Button died this year in a grand prix, Seb Vettle next year and another driver each other year, they'd have to rethink about things in that sport too!

  • @marcluc1988 seriously think about what you have just said...........you really do need help....... go now before it is too late........good luck mate.

  • Without National Hunt racing thousands of horses ( prob more ) would b idle and would have nothin 2 do. Therefore nobody would want 2 look after them and they would then b really mistreated.

    Long live NH

  • @Figgy2k11 nothing to do but living in quiet and peace you mean? They can be lucky if no one would look after them, because they always lived free, until the man with the stable-idea showed up!

  • this race is suicide for horses.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 It isnt suicide. Only 2 died. Last year, none died.

  • @comeonshaymen

theoretically speaking. since 22 have died and numerous others have gotten career ending injuries. Although yeah not many die, countless others get injured, shatter their legs and ruin their racing career.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 OK, can you tell me the names of the horses whose career has been ended???

  • @comeonshaymen

Well, apart from the 22 that DIED ever since it started. not to mention the countless horses that fall and trip from the fences and plow into the rails. Injuries during the race are very common. and although they may not die, the injuries they suffered may threaten their career. In the 2010 Grand national, there were 9 horses that fell. in 2011, 11 that fell. that's 20 horses right there that may have ruined their careers.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 im sorry but where are you people getting this 'insider information' from? I dont think im imagining it...though i could be wrong...but those loose horses WHO FELL dont look like they have 4 shattered legs? i know of no horses that have had to end their careers after getting injured (not fatally) at the National. You'll see half of these horses back in the GN next year absolutely loving it all over again! Black Apalachi for example fell 3 years ago yet came second the year after

  • @TrAcEyPaPeR1

i'm speaking in worst-case-scenarios. it's great to hear that they came back. but every time a horse falls, it puts itself at risk for injury. I'm not saying that every time a horse falls it gets injured. All i'm saying is that since falls are common, it's just easer to injure the horse. and sometimes even kill the horse.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 I see what you're saying and yes i agree a degree of risk is involved, but these are 2 ton beasts who take some pounding to get even the slightest scratch (believe me i feel their brute force on regular occasions, and can 'happily' confirm this). There are such degrees of difference between the rare fatal falls and the regular ones that there is hardly anything in between; which is why you hardly ever hear of career threatening injuries from falls.

  • @TrAcEyPaPeR1

it's nice to know that you ride horses, or are in contact with them regularly. So you can back up what you say. I wish i had one. I guess it sometimes depends on where the horse falls. Sometimes it leads to a build-up of falls. I don't know. It just seems like this race is far too risky. but it is tradition and i am not from england so i don't understand the cultural significance of it. But to me, it justs seems like the jockeys are staring death in the face.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 meh i try :P yeah i ride out racers and am training to be one of those daredevil jockeys, so sort of feel like i can make a point or two (big headed). You should go to a yard, or racecourse, or where ever they keep the horses where you're from. Honestly you would see that no one in racing would put their horse in a race they believed was too risky. Nah the tradition argument is over hyped, people watch it for the love of seeing these horses at their most magnificent!

  • @TrAcEyPaPeR1

yeah. it's quite a spectacular show.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 My God youve just proved how little you know about racing. Falling is part of racing the horses are tough enough. If they wasnt, we wouldnt have NH racing. Some famous winners such as Hedgehunter Red Marauder and Silver Birch have all fallen before going on to win a GN. Horses who have fallen come back year after year such as Cant Buy Time, who fell 3 times in 3 years. Black Apalachi fell twice before coming 2nd in 2010. Madison Du Berlais fell in 2008 but then became a champion

  • @comeonshaymen

you stupid fuck. I'm saying that falling increases the risk for injury. that is all.

  • @LifeOfMusic112 Why did i insult you??? And yes, falling does increase the risk of injury, but still, its very unlikely that they will be injured.

  • Who do you think will win next year??? I'm going for Poker De Sivola, if he improves his jumping, cause he can be quite messy. And i also want to wish a long and happy ritirement to Surface To Air, who finished 8th

  • @HumanVersion2 It doesnt guarauntee that they will be killed.

    Last year, none died

It isnt cruel, horses love to run

And horses running to their deaths??? Have you realised that 38 of them DIDNT die

  • I cannot belive you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE HORSES DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE, A FOOTBALL PLAYER DOES!!! YES HORSES LIKES RACE; CAUSE ITS NATURE, BUT SO IS THE FACT THAT THE HORSE DOES NOT HAVE THE BRAIN CAPACITY THE PREDICT THAT THERES A BIG CHANCE HE MIGHT FALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is abuse! Not just the falls, also the way he whipes the horse in the end. It's DISGUSTING!

  • @wDyrisk You're right but horse racing goes back centuries to the times of the Roman Empire. These horses do not have a choice but they are bred for horse racing. Not even 1% of them actually die so while I agree its unfortunate its a part of life that has been going on for many centuries. When a deer gets eaten by a lion in the wilderness does it have a choice? You can't put a ban on or censure everything in this world..some things are just meant to be.

  • @apatel8t3 But we are not lions, and horseracing isn't needed by nature. A lion is an animal and he will die, if he doesn't eat another animal. We're humans, we can live without horseraces.

I don't care if only a few die, a lot are injuried. You said it your self, it's been going on for centuries. We should be viser than centuries ago!

  • @wDyrisk

    1) Calm Down

    2) Get your facts right

    3) Spell whip correctly

    4) Toddle off, and leave the decent people who like horse racing to watch a great sport

  • @comeonshaymen What facts?? I have just as much right to comment on this as you do. Because you think this is a great sport of tradition, it doesn't mean it's okay to expolit these horses advantageous for joy and money.

Btw nice one denigrating for spelling mistakes....

  • @wDyrisk Do you want to ban cars?? I hear that animals have been kiled on the road by HUMANS in CARS. Xo. And horses love to race, so not letting them would be cruel. And as for you saying cows and chickens are killed for food, that's like saying that is a cannibal killed someone it'd be O.K.

Oh, and as for my spelling mistakes, you spelt exploit wrong and advantages, too

  • @comeonshaymen You don't run down horse with a car for fun. Actually if you're normal you would try to avoid it. This horse race is for fun.

I'm not against races in general, but i am against this one with high jumps. What horses like to do is not racing but running fast, they can do that on fields.

Advantageous was spelled right, cause i actually ment advantageous not advantages..

  • @wDyrisk You are contradicting yourself. In an earlier post you put " YES HORSES LIKE RACES.", s please make your mind up. And safety is the no1 priority in the National, and like roadkill and car crashes, accidents do, and will, always happen.

You didnt answer my question. If a cannibal killed someone would it be OK, because, as you said if something is killed for food, it OK.

And "advantegous" in that context makes no sense

  • @comeonshaymen Safety is not the no1 priority at the grand national, otherwise it wouldn't take place under these circumstances at all. We're in 2011 and we can't just ban cars, but I'm pretty sure that someone is all the time trying to make improvements to predit accidents involving animals. We can stop the grand national.

What benefiting keeping GN other than tradition?

as to the question, I think you know the answer youself.

  • @wDyrisk Safety is no1 priority in the National. The fences have been made smaller. The run-outs were put in only 2 or 3 years ago. In 1998, the had to jump over a fence where there was a dead horse at the other side. In the early years there was even a brick wall were the Water Jump is.

Well, and the benfits of the race are obvious.

The horses love it. If you're a racing fan (like me) it is the highlight of your calendar

Look, there always will be people like you, but the RSPCA said its fine

  • @comeonshaymen And sadly for the world there alway will be people like you, who get a kick out of watching defenceless animals suffer....

Ok, so you say there has been improvements, but sport does not involve animals suffering, and they still do.

Enjoy the race as long as you can, in time it will be banned. It's not without reason that this kind of race has been banned in other countries.

  • @wDyrisk Until you become the head of the RSPCA, the National will always the worlds best race. And the horses aren't bloody suffering. Unfortunately, you dont understand NH racing, so why comment if you dont understand it.
