Thta's a stress difference. English is a stress timed langaue adn Japanese is mora--so any mora language or syllable timed English L 1 speakers destroy
I like your videos very much! i am currently studying Japanese in college as a beginner. I took it in high school but that was 3 years ago, so I'm starting over again, but its nice to watch your videos and pick out words that i once knew. its really nice to get conformation on words that i learned before and know that my teacher wasn't wrong on some points. So thank you so much for your videos, they are VERY helpful. and very entertaining, in a good way.
Which of them sounds more natural? I understand the difference between が and は-so don't bother explaining that, please- I just thought, is there a need for "ga"? Isn't it TOO specific? The difference is slight and not important, so I probably sound like some stuck-up egghead-and we already agreed I'm a moron. :D
So, here comes moronic question for this channel-が and は? Why or why not? What do you think? Would she feel the difference? :D
little tip for viewers ~ na-ADJ's that end in EI are easier to remember as na's when you think of the i as the long e instead of i by itself. (does that make sense?) because it's technically kirEE but written as kirEI. same with yumei (famous).... that's how i remembered it anyway
wow. i thought i would start to learn some japanese today... i even got a pen and paper to write everything down. I just looked at the clock and its now 4 am. OMG what is my life?! thanks for the lessons though (i'm really a moron)
There is a woman writer her name is Banana Yoshimoto よしもと ばなな, that's her pen name her real name is 吉本 真秀子, and she has written つぐみ title translated in English Goodbye Tsugumi. I quess there is a girl named banana after all lol!!!
Hey loves the vids! Im heading out (finally) to Japan soon and was wondering how you would say Aromatherapy/ reflexology in Japanese @.@ (yer i know!). Otherwise I wouldn't know how to describe my Job/Course.Thanks
I think its important, but I think in one of these lessons you should cover how strong a ending da is by itself. I used to put in my videos on nico, "boku wa amerrikanjin da", and they all used to laugh at me. But I didn't realize until much later how strong that made that statement, and how you need ne, na, or yo at the end to soften it. Like kirei hitomi dane, kawaii posu dana~, hazukashii mono dayo. I think it will really help those working with casual japanese.
Mate - the intonation thing is actually huge. In English intonation doesn't really make a difference in meaning so we really don't have the ability to hear it as well - it is the big advantage Asian students of Japanese have over English speakers in particular. The way I was taught in school was "Kawa" is dead skin, "Hada" is live skin - kawa is what happens when you get sunburned and peel. I haven't been following vids much lately, but I'll check more of this series out after this.
LoL you gave the same example as my teacher, he also mentionned 大きい. Aren't most of the times that you'll use な to link an adjective to the noun because the adjective is actually a noun itself? We passed over that part way too quickly in class XD
well i have never heard that the adjective is a noun itself, but yes that is right, in a sense, but you wouldn't use it with 大きい because it isn't a na-adjective. it is an i-adjective. Sorry to answer the question, victor! just thought I would make it easier on you so you will keep these up! I missed your lessons!

It's easier for me to pronounce Japanese than English... and I'm American.
I have a slight speech impediment and for me, English is too sharp and odd.
Japanese feels nicer, my whole mouth feels relaxed. I don't feel like I'm forcing myself to say the words.
My friend from Finland also has a similar problem. He doesn't pronounce his Finnish right, but he speaks better in English.

i thought that you weren't supposed to use "da" after an adjective for the impolite form but you said "hada kirei da ne". am i wrong?

What's the difference between "ga" and "wa" ? Befor you were using "wa" to indicate the subject. but now you're using "ga".

ゾンデ turned up in an E->J directionary, and it just smells German (Sonde is German for probe) like many older science-related katakana words.

I liked Perot! The best way to describe him comes straight from every 80's sitcom... "Crazy enough to work!"
Anywho, This one was more difficult but more difficult ones should just be watched a few times instead of once. It helps me at least.
Love the Krumbine gesturing, lol.
