Its actually safer not to be strapped in. If you are strapped then you have a 175 lb plate attached and on top of you. In this case the "rag doll" effect dissipates energy and is why he walked away.

Ok I'm going to correct everyone. First off it's not a go kart, a go kart is something you play with off road in the back yard, it's a sprint kart and to be exact it is a 2 cycle shifter kart. To answer didicam09 it is not fake sprint karts can go 255 km/h or 158 mph in the super kart class. To rsavagephotography 4 stroke do not suck your little buzz saw engines do because you can't intimidate anyone with those little buzz saw engines. I have built several 4 strokes that smoke 2 stokes for exam

I was at this race as a young kid. It's at Adam's in Riverside CA. The other driver in the incident is Alex Barron (who later raced IndyCar, CART, ChampCar). I remember being just outside of the turn (near the camera) and you could hear his head hit the ground. Brutal. I think this race was the California State Championships. Might be wrong about that though... even the So Cal club races back then brought over 100 karts.

Junior TKM 100cc=70-75 mph

Junior Blue 100cc=80-85 mph

All websites are wrong they always make it sound less than it realy is I own a junior blue and i was always convinced that they could do 75mph top then i went to 3 sisters in wigan which has a big straight, on the time sheets it showed the fastest speed recorded was 88.9 mph. The r0tax also hit 88.1 mph and rotax are supposed to be fasters top speed!

The crash was not even that bad. I was in a crash where a kart drove over me and if i was shifting my hand could have gotten cut off. I know this because the shifter arm had cuts in it from the sprocket.
