The more debt a nation incurs, it effects the value of the currency. and can devalue the currency. If a nation simply prints more money out of nothing, it causes inflation (cost of everything rises) The U.S. government is the sole issuer of the Dollar. Therefore, no other (sovereign) nations use the dollar as it's issued currency.
They may use the dollar as the excepted monetary currency, but they do not and cannot issue it. Only the U.S. can issue new dollars.

Why is greece's economy failing? Primarily because of it's interconnection to the Euro. When a nations expenses are greater then it's revenue (mainly taxes), it must either print or borrow money. The ability to borrow is based on factors similar to peoples ability to borrow. People are considered for loans according to their income and credit rating. A nations income is measured by GDP. A nations credit rating is ability to at least pay the interest on the debt.

@BeatleStone The problem with the Bush's is that they were alright presidents (kept us from absolutely plummeting) but they made serious mistakes. They tried best they could to imitate Reagan and follow his principles, but the problem THERE is that only reagan has been able to do that the right way so far. Hopefully we will get someone in soon who can do the same.

He fixed the problems with Carters 21% mortgage rates so that lower and middle income families could once again buy their own home. @BeatleStone -- President Reagan, was indeed very much our last President to feel and look like a real President and the last to express fully the ideals (some) that made America great - but President Kennedy, and not Reagan, was more REAL. - VP Bush ran the show - Reagan ushered in free trade/markets and deregulation (killing FDR's protections) that have lead to the mess of Today. He was a good man but bad ideas economically and philosophically overall not like our greatest LINCOLN/ROOSEVELTS.
