  • COCK.

  • I do agree, man I wish I have your talent of tweeking knobs, what recording equipments are you using? You are awesome just about everything!!!

  • i have the 60 version and sounds kick ass! thank you for doing this awesome peavey amp test!

  • OMG YES YOU MADE MY WISH COME TRUE XD!

  • Dude look at where his pre gain is at! Its not even half and his distortion is perfect!

  • @jupe321

You could get a Peavey Vypyr tube 60 for around that much. A Bugera 6260 is basically like a 6505 copy and it goes for around $300 used. I've heard they have reliability issues but I haven't used one so I can't say for sure.

  • did you try to record with the usb ?

  • this tone is the egg mcmuffin of tones

  • Hey Ola. I play progressive technical jazz blues ambient metal. Do you think Line 6 Spider would suit my needs?

  • @AlvisLiquid

    When in doubt

    Spider lV

  • this tone is pretty shocking, when i bought my blackstar i didn't even consider this thing. i thought it was just another crappy model amp like the line 6 spiders.

  • @LoadedAndPlay

I have learned to take Ola's recordings with a grain of salt. He can take ANY AMP and make it sound basically the same! Don't but a Line 6 or a Vypyr thinking it is going to sound like this in your bedroom, because it WON'T. But they are nice little practice amps, but the difference between tone in a Vypyr and a Dual Recto are much further apart in real life, than in Ola's demos.

  • hey ola and everyone reading this, a quick question, i play technical death metal, and i cant decide witch amp should i get between randall t2, peavey 6505, or peavey 3120, thanks for your help, by the way Ola, you are fucking sick bro, keep up the good work :D

  • @thrashislaw666

6505. It will do just fine for you bud. I also recommend getting an overdrive(I personally use a TS9DX, but many people like the variations on the TS808/Maxon 808 so those are good picks too).

  • @stephenwrightmusic also the 3120 its a good choice, got better cleans than 6505.

  • @JwithDinky

I hadn't tried the 3120, but upon some digging you're right.

  • @stephenwrightmusic thanks for the advice bro, but i fucked up my pocket a bit, and cant afford those anymore :(, but my randall rt100 will arrive in 1 and a half weeks C:, hope it worths it, and i will check out the TS9DX

  • @thrashislaw666

Check out a TS808 along side it if you can, some people prefer one over the other. I'm pretty happy with my TS9DX but you might like the 808 better.

  • meaty <33

  • Check my channel for the non-tube 30 watt combo.

  • Har ju Vypyr 30 och kör med JSX som standard, låter nice ;)

  • i dont want to be asshole n0.6

  • I think you need to be recognized for your ability to take just about any amp and make it sound just like the one you used before. Clearly you've mastered the art of knob turning and tweaking.

We must therefore give you a new nickname.. Perhaps: Knob Destroyer... Tone Generator X... Tweak-Tone Johnson...

    Something...

  • i wonder why " no pants subway ride 2012" is in the suggestions. . . o well, click. . .

  • Nice T-shirt!

  • loved the song name :))

  • playthrough playthrough playthrough! :D

  • Hey Ola, awesome playing. I'm just curious about something, do you listen to Lamb Of God?

    Cheers mate

  • The amp sounds nt that good ..... but u made it sound Great !

  • Sounds meh compared to ur other amps

  • fucking awesome dude

  • i want that damn shirt!

  • Only you could make this amp sound so damn good!

  • Nice tone Bro. Also, good job of taming the lows. My biggest problem with the vypyr series is the booming bottom end. Great job as always.

  • Tack som fan för att du gjorde denna demon, Ola! Jag requestade den för ett bra tag sedan och är överlycklig att du gjorde den, som vanligt låter det fläskigt som fan! Ös vidare! :)

  • Heard this amp live was one of the bands that opened for cob or nevermore. It was lost in the mix, sounded bad.

  • FUS RO DAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ola plz demo a Peavey Valveking really good amp for his price :D.

  • @AnimalRepellent I think that we basically agree. We both think that to an extent (even if we mean a different "extent") fingers do play a role in your tone shaping. I didn't get the "relied" part, sorry, can you explain it?

  • @Ypnovatis Oh. I ment "replied" as the guy you answered earlier." :) he just wrote that hands had nothing to do with guitar tone. And i just wanted to state that i disagree with that hehe. You were not supposed to think that i ment he was right :)

  • Playthrough or gtfo

  • 00:11 - 00:16 = My Sound xD

  • You're a legend mann!

  • Just ordered one of the last Vypyr heads in Europe

Cant wait to get it! Now even more after watching this

  • .....and I bought a spider as amp home amp instead of a Vypyr. *immediately runs off to sell spider*

  • how do u do to get this sound ( which is awesome ) with a sm57 ... i can't believe it !!!!

    good job .

  • Ola I've loved your channel for the longest time. But man...I seriously fuckin hate Political Ads before listening to your videos. Fuck politics

  • @Ypnovatis But when you play for long enough, theese techniques are common usage all over, and the muscle and pick attack, are well etablished for the majority. The big factor here is where your composing talent lies, and how you work for getting your tone with your picking action. A tone would always be more beefy when raising the action, instead of keeping it low. Every guitar player would at this point be pretty interested in gauge of strings and action when it comes to tone.

  • @AnimalRepellent So Chris Brodercik and Guthrie Govan and Jeff Loomis all have the same technique? Your hands are an important part of the equation that equals your own personal sound. And we' re talking exclusively electric. You play any acoustic instruments? You and me and the same guitar, the same chord, will never sound exactly the same. ;) Or else, what's the damn point? :P And of course I agree 100% about the composing talent.

  • Comment removed

  • @AnimalRepellent So what you're saying is that after all, tone is (at least a minor pencentage of your tone let's say) in the fingers :P And equipment is an important factor.:)

  • @Ypnovatis No. I would certainly never write off every factor when it comes to a players personal guitar tone. But on the other hand, i do not think it is a bigger fact, before you master a long range of aspects in guitar theory´, and use them in your composition, wherever its writing music or jamming off.

  • @GabGabAuJous not in fingers but in the picking style/strength

  • @GabGabAuJous

    Tone in the fingers.

Spewed by the people who say SS amps are lifeless and EMGs are sterile.

  • Ouch! Pass.

  • @GabGabAuJous Because they don't actually think about what they're saying and just regurgitate stuff they hear on the interweb. Same reason a lot of bullshit gets spread around, sadly.

  • seen on rig talk your getting a fortin "satan" lol so you switching over to fortin instead of DAR..???? or did you jsut want a custom amp built by mike..

  • @tc8849 I just want to own every awesome amp out there!

  • @fearedse

    Amen

  • I think it's hilarious all the people watching a streaming video over the internet complaining that things sound too digital... LOL *facepalm*

  • This video is the only time I've ever heard a Vypyr sound decent. I have one myself and its a load of shit.

  • @cycon0

Why did you buy it if its a load of shit?

  • @CypherThanatos I received it as a gift when they first came out lol. I did buy a Carvin V3 though.

  • dude i want ur shirt

  • So, it's a good idea getting one of those and replacing the speakers with celections, right?

  • @GabGabAuJous And good things also!

  • @GabGabAuJous because it does. bad players can make bad things sound bad.

  • Tone is in the eyebrows.

  • @austinfailz Carl Sagan must have some killer tone then...

  • @GabGabAuJous Because it does......

You cant tell me that Eddie Van Halen and John Petrucci can plug into the same exact setup and play the same lick and sound the same....

  • @gibsongod15 You also can't take a Line 6 Spider and an axe-fx and expect to get the same tone

  • @stevo946 Valid point. But someone like Jimmy Page is gonna sound like Jimmy Page no matter what amp he plays through... Give him a 100 dollar line 6 and hes still going to sound like jimmy page

  • coolios... would love to see a 6505 (vypyr) vs. real 6505 comparison video comparing the tones of the two :-)

  • shitty riffs? what you talkin bout man, all your riffs kick ass!

  • @GabGabAuJous a lot of the sound can come from the way the pick hits the string and how hard you pick. plus, if you play shitty, it'll sound shitty. if you play clean, it'll usually sound pretty clean no matter the gear.

  • You should test out some Oranges Amps.

  • @Guitargawd13 He did a while back. He has done the Rockerverb (I don't recall if it was the Mark 1 or 2), the Tiny Terror, and the Dark Terror. You should check them out! Especially the Rockerverb!

  • I had the 120T head version of this and hated it. I took a $200 hit just to get it out of my house.

  • @GabGabAuJous They keep saying that because it does. The way you pick the strings, which pick, the angle, finger fretting style, aggressiveness, etc etc ALL makes a huge impact on your overall tone. Experiment with it and you WILL see a difference. It's NOT an opinion.

  • I can't believe so many of you on here are bashing this amp! I bet the truth be told the majority have never even played the Peavey vypyr tube or heard it in person and assume it is shit because it's a modeling amplifier! Hell frigging fire...grow up and have your own voice instead of having this herd mentality. It is a really good sounding and versatile amplifier! Thanks Ola for posting this!

  • Ola has a sort of signature distortion sound and that's understandable. Good thing he makes "play through" videos so we can hear how the amp sounds with other settings. If Ola can bring out his signature tone in every amp he tests and uses, then that means finding the right amp for our personal taste is just a matter of which amp we find it easiest to get the signature tone we like for ourselves. More power Ola, wish I were in your shoes, errr, socks.

  • I record ALL of my guitar tones with this amp and it is A BEAST. If you want to hear what it can do, check out soundclick (dot)com / bands / guitardedmark \\nn//

  • important to note that the amp is powered by tubes and uses REAL diode clipping for the distortion. I love your stuff Ola but this clip DOES NOT do this amp justice. I find the JSX model to be great for leads but not near as good for rhythm. It seems like the Diezel or Mesa settings would have served your purpose better. I've recorded with this amp for over year and after not plugging into the mesa or the marshall for over 6 months i sold them and this is now the only head i have.

  • FOR EVERYONE WONDERING HOW HE IS GETTING THAT TONE....

It's all in the post production. Remember, we are hearing the mix NOT each instrument soloed. Each instrument DRAMATICALLY affects the sound of each other in the mix. To be honest, I've had Marshalls, Mesas, Engls, and Crates and this amp is my favorite of all of them. It has a TREMENDOUS amount of versatility and has some CRUSHING metal tones. For all the ignorant bastards writing this amp off because it's "digital" it may be

  • Damn I really need to get rid of my Vypyr 75 and get the 120 lol

  • Ola could plug his guitar into the auxilary imput of my Toyota Yaris and still and get a good tone out of it. Fucking Macgyver of guitar amps here haha.

  • i'd say its pretty obvious this amp isn't very great sounding. one of my students has the tube 60 and it definitely does not sound very great. its alright for what it is- a modeler for the guitarist that has outgrown their very first starter amp and wants plenty of options tone-wise and don't have an overly discerning ear.

  • I bet he could make a Fender Twin Reverb sound like this. He makes every amp sound like this .... :/ lol

  • nice tone for a peavy valveking. Id love to see a video on the Rivera Kr7.

  • @whitelotus808 Vypyr "correction to my own comment".

  • Hola, Ola.

  • @101jakew hahaha.. why i never thought of that..haha

  • @deutscherjoel this almost sounds as a challange of how good you can make shit gear sound ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Great video as usual Ola! However, people keep talking about doing a shitty amp series, but the Vypyrs aren't shitty tone wise. Now, the noisy DAC's and the hard set, non-adjustable noise gate are problematic.

  • if this is the "shitty amp series" why dont you make a demo of the line 6 spider 4 series?

  • @noobaliciouscovers he did and if the title didn't say line 6 30 watt no one wouldve thought it was a spider series amp.

  • i own the dime d100 you tested now my question is do you recommend the same cab for it or is there a particular cab you would recommend for me to use with it? thx =)

  • hey Ola, between the seymour duncan invader, distortion, or bare knuckle aftermath what would you choose

  • @metalfan120 sh-6 metal mayhem set rocks man

  • Yuck.... digital....

  • @MrRmjjmr nom nom nom digital, its a hybrid I guess it has 6L6 in it

  • @electroneticTV No bro its got a tube power section, 4x6L6GC. If i happens to lose my balls and thought it would be a good idea to buy a modelling amp again i would def buy this... over a Line 6...

  • @MrRmjjmr haha

  • @MrRmjjmr Shows how much you know...The Peavey Vypyr is analog not digital! The only digital part of the whole amp is the effects! Everything else is analog including the distortion!

  • @GuitarOOOFreak .... for the money..... get a used all tube peavey.... unless you absolutely have to have all the effects.... better than L6 tho....

  • @MrRmjjmr I have owned the Peavey Vypyr 120 head for two years now so I have thoroughly put it through it's paces and I'm still happy with it. It cover's all my needs. This coming from somebody that has sold 11 of the 12 amps I purchased in the last four years. I completely understand what your saying about the all tube versions though...I like them as well. People just dis-credit the Vypyr without just cause because it's a modeling amplifier without knowing the facts!

  • @GuitarOOOFreak The fact is.... for the cost of a new v120 head and a sanpera 1 you could get a REAL amp.... and unless you need all the goddam bells and whistles, you will enjoy better tone out of a used 3120 for the same money... my favorite sound is (Guitar)-(cord)-(amp)-(cab). the only addition to my rig would be an EQ and an ISP decimator. I had Line 6 for years... i used two channels out of a possible 36... no FX.... waste of time...

  • @MrRmjjmr Dude have you ever played a vypyr tube? I purchased one 2 weeks ago and it sounds amazing with an additional eq it sounds JUST LIKE a real mesa\krank\peavey 3120 and so on so on... I've had few tube amps and I really know what I am talking about so please don't wrtie about sth you have never actually played.

  • Fungus..... assuming ive never played one is like assuming ive never ate at mcdonalds... its not exactly a rare and sought after amp... ... funny tho it sounded tighter than a mesa.... wish i never bought that recto......

  • @MrRmjjmr Then do not buy a recto because without a boost or mod it wont be tight! Yea sorry but it's actually a very loose type of distortion! Comparing vypyr to McDonalds is just lame... Uhm and did I say that it is tightER? I said if I would make a record with vypyr and called it a mesa record no one would think it was actually recorded by vypyr!

  • @FungusLabel McDicks was a low blow... I had a recto, I want that part of my life back.

  • @GuitarOOOFreak what im saying is.... the value is in the fx.... and the fact they gave the thing tubes makes it stage usesable.... SS is shit!!!!

  • i want that t-shirt!!

  • I need that freaking shirt...

  • it's funny because you say that these are shitty riffs. so shitty riffs on a shitty amp :D

  • Ola, i'd like to see how you'd voice some old school stuff if you got the chance. see if you can score an ampeg ss/vh 140/150, a crate gx130c, or a randall rg100es. they're forever old but they absolutely CRUSH... **also, did you have to use the 'tubescreamer' (in the built-in effects) to get enough gain for this? the tone was surprisingly good.

  • @fearedse i havent seen you wear headphones in awhile. when you dont... how do you avoid the bleed coming out from your monitors to the gtr mic when tracking?

  • @fearedse

How do you record your bass lines? what amps, what bass? never seen a video of you talking 'bout that or just playing the bass... maybe i'm just too stupid to find shit

  • which amp model?

  • @deutscherjoel Crates can sound insane, look at Prong's power of the damager tone.

  • I'm curious to see how you would make a marshall mg100hdfx sound! :D

  • @deutscherjoel If tone starts in the fingers, then I was cursed with bad fingers. Can I have Ola's fingers?

  • vypyrs arent even that bad. its nothing compared to a tube amp, but not bad at bedroom or low jamming volumes. but if ola can make a dime amp sound decent, he can make anything sound good

  • @DemmelitionMan95

apparently he cant make a spider III sound good. or he just doesnt want to try with them

  • @ibanezxiphos700 if he can make a vypyr sound good he can probably make a line 6 sound good. they're similar in a way, except a lot of the peaveys are hybrid amps. give enough requests he'll probably do it sooner or later :P

  • Ola, from 0:12 your playing through the camera mic. What do you switch to afterwards to get the better sound? What kind of recorder/software are you using?

  • do you own this amp?

  • OK, Ola, I messaged you a week or so ago, you told me about the: Which one would you suggest more?

Peavey ValveKing 212 Guitar Combo Amplifier - 2x12 Inch, 100 Watts

    Or

Peavey Vypyr Tube 120 120W 2x12 Guitar Tube Amp

  • What do you think on the Dual Rectifier setting? I think it sounds pretty amazing on mine, all though it doesn't sound exactly like a Dual Rect.

  • FUKIN BRUTAL RIFFS!

  • Demo of the 6505 channel would be awesome!

  • Great left of centre choice Ola :-)

How about instead of an amp shootout, do a few more cabs? You seem to be very happy with the DV Mark C412, it seems.

  • Where'd you get the shirt?

  • if those are shitty arse riffs my bands in trouble

  • @fearedse How bout testing a Peavy Valve King 100? =)

  • "Thanks to myself for borrowing myself this amp." Lol.

  • Comment removed

  • Ive tested a couple of these vyprs myself and although Im not much on these effects/modeling amps I can say that this one kicks line 6's ass imo

  • Ola you have THE METAL :D

  • what the rec setting like ? anything like its ment to be ive got the 15 soild state one and at low volumes its EPIC but whats this thing like

  • @deutscherjoel IMPOSSIBRU!

  • Oh my holy satan, this punchy sound makes me jizz in my pants!

  • Tone is in the post production

  • Wow... it actually sounds better than the Sig:X....

  • dude can you please tell me how to get that shirt haha

  • man, how much guitars you record for the mix ???

That sound so fucking amazing lml :D

  • Best song title ever. <- Period

  • Could you do a randall rh150g3? I'd like to see that thing in action

  • @MyGreatFall Yeah same here dude. That amp rips and im sure he would make it sound killer

  • next time.. try the peavey valveking !

  • I bet you can't get a descent metal tone from Fender Mustang!!

  • You should demo an Ampeg VH140C or an SS150

  • I had the head version of this. On it's own it sounded amazing but in a band context it wouldn't cut for shit even with mids maxed.

  • I had the 120 watt combo version but i really didn't like the cab, also needed a noisegate but it sounds great here.

  • Damn. This amp sounds just as good recorded as my axe fx or engl!

  • damn... those "shitty ass riffs" just took a shit on my shitty ass riffs. That amp sounds pretty good there.

  • so, what do u think about this amp?

  • @silentboy85 actually surprised me. I was expecting it to be a wreck but has some good tones!

  • @fearedse your throw away riffs much like alot of bands are fucking great, never understood why some riffs arent used when they are so epic, but hey fuck it great sounds bro! very dark sounding, me likey

  • @METALLICA6547 You throw away riffs because you wanna climb higher and higher, you don't wanna settle with music making.

I know sometimes i say "man, how'd i do that", but then i say "i can make something better".

Music (in my opinion) is about evolving, not conforming.

  • @Jamsessionroom1337 oh i understand that i have played for 24 years but some of this dudes riffs are killer and made for moshing lol

  • Ola, I think that the moment has finally come to do that "shitty amp" series of tests. You talked about it last year, but never did it. Since you tested this Peavey, why don't you do a Bandit? I would love to hear how you would cope with it (I have a
