  • Very VERY helpful! Thank you so much!

  • YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE.

    ...

just thought I'd let you know:)

  • OMG! NINA!!!! I HAVE to tell you after sooo many videos, it is NOT flutist *flu-tist*, it is FLOUTIST *flow-tist*

    Phew!

  • @panicpanicpanicatthe Actually in the US FLUTIST is correct, see my blog entry from Oct 27th 2007 for an explanation: realfluteproject.blogspot dot com

  • @ninaflute Oh. Okay. Hmmmmm.... Interesting. I just always heard my teachers and friends say flautist not flutist.

  • @panicpanicpanicatthe yes, it is a common mistake - unless you live in the UK. From now on, tell them to check my blog or wikipedia for the answer!

  • Hey Nina! First of all I would like to say that i am a great fan of all of yer videos! I am a flutist myself but I play the recorder! Must say that yer explanation of tht measure and how you can think the triplets was really helpful! I like to say Blue-ber-ry whenever a triplet occures! Makes it easier somewhat to keep it even! Thank you once again!

  • I was so excited when I saw that we had the same book! It made my entire day! :D But then I groaned when I saw the notes because I remember my flute instructor drilling that measure into me!

  • Thank you! Very nicely demystified.

  • I always think "Straw-ber-ry".

  • I played this a few weeks ago and had so much trouble with the triplets. I wish this was out then! Thanks for the help. :)

  • I hate when they don't put the triplet brackets in. They should always put the triplet bracket in.

  • grass-hop-per

    tri-po-let

    te-le-phone

    miss-is-ip-i

    tahh tahh

    Gotta love band!

  • tri-ple-et, ham-bur-ger, blue-ber-ry, straw-ber-ry .... basically anything w 3 syllables works =]

    Great explanation video!

made everything so much more understandable

    :D

  • In my class, we say "1 lolly, 2 lolly, etc." or the "tri-pe-let" version.

    Nice explanation!

  • I was wondering if you have heard of the Eastman counting system?

  • Yay, all state! I'm pumped.

  • Nina, this is from Andersen Op. 33.

You are correct, BUT the WHOLE measure is basically 3 - eighth notes triplets.-to cover the 3 main quarter note beats. So, the third beat is also a triplet but isn't indicated as such in either of my printings of this piece. As a rule, flutists should always "do the math" with the rhythms in their measures so that they understand this better and because there are often mistakes in printed music.

  • When I play this etude I really stretch the time in that measure, especially beat 3. One of my favorite andersen etudes. it's beautiful!

  • thank you for clarifying!

  • Triplet, hamburger.... I like it..Excellent explanation and demonstration !

  • wow...being so responsible just for few of notes and beats. thx so much nina

waking up watching this video in the middle of the night :)

  • I ike hamburger better . . . My teacher tells us to say 1 la lei 2 la lei, 3 la lei, and so on depending on which beat it falls on.
