@hamie7 Ouch, you need to search for your University's Microsoft Exchange server (if they have one). You might find this information on you're University's website somewhere. I'm at Ottawa University and the server was: "uottawa" and the server was "mail.uottawa.ca." Search a little bit and you might find it!
I have a gmail account and iphone 4s... i reset up my email account but after i add name, email, password and push next it verifies it and sends me right to the mail, contacts, calender page... skips where i enter the server. Mail works fine it just wont pop up unless i let it fetch every 15 minutes. Push is turned on.
@Waqaswsw Yahoo mails have been working for SOME users. I guess they have some difficulties on their server side. They suggest to delete/recreate mail account on iPhone, create a new email account on yahoo and to restore iPhone. Other than that, get a gmail account, it's way better :) Cheers!
@genifurropie You can't have push with godaddy. If you want to set up your mail account, you can set it up through Google Apps Gmail account (receive every mail through Google instantly even with your domain address) then set it up on your iPhone. You can set it up to receive on a regular Gmail account then receive it on your iPhone. Or you can set it up like goDaddy mentionnes in "iPhone: Setting up Email" on their Help Guide.
@lavadr So there is no way to get get instant notification if I have a godaddy acct? :-( That is what we have our company email through. (Thanks for the quick reply btw)

Hi! This works great on my new iPhone 4S. I tried doing the same thing on my MacBook OS X Lion. When I put in the server m.hotmail.com it says that the server is not responding. How can I get push notification to work on my Mac (if at all)?
hey i did this and i get my emails instantly but the notification doesnt stay. It pops up for about 2 seconds and then disappears so I have no trace that I got an email after that. It appears in my inbox but nothing else :(
@carpachocobra Roadrunner mail doesn't work with push unforunately. You can always setup a Gmail account and forward your Roadrunner mail to it. But in that case, you should simply get a Gmail account. It's very useful
This worked for me! But I realized with the new iOS 5 notification center, the emails that are shown are the emails that are in my "trash" section. How do I change that so it shows the first 5 "inboxes" instead. Thank you, hope this makes sense.
@minniefnlolo Hi, I'm not sure I understand. In the mails options, you can set which mail you want to sync. You can sync with "inbox", "trash", "drafts", etc. Set it to only sync with "inbox". You shouldn't have any "trash" emails. Give it a shot! Cheers
@TheMikesyd Your phone should vibrate, you can also fix this in the settings. Go into sounds. You can spicify certain vibrations for applications. It sucks indeed that you don't get notifications like text messages.
@tklu84 Ahhhh. That's because Apple doesn't have the same philosophy as Google; Apple does things their way and will not accomodate to other application/business (open source). Google is completely the opposit, they let programmers do pretty much whatever they want with Android. They will even hand out the tools to help them acheive those modifications. Google will change/modify to accomodate other "game changers". Not apple. It's simply their philosiphy. Well, it was Steve Jobs' at least.

It doesn't work for me. I've tried 3 times. Every time it says password is incorrect even though its correct. And then it says it cannot connect to server

push doesn't work for my yahoo and when i try the exchange thing it does go past the server part i did m.yahoo.com and it says unable to verify account information
@jwv8518 If you want "Push" with Yahoo, you need to go to "Settings" then "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" then set "Fetch New Data" to "Push". Yahoo mail claims they support push but it's really not that effective and reliable. I would suggest creating a Gmail account (very effective and easy to make). Also, the Gmail account lets you reveive your Yahoo mail, send emails from your Yahoo mail and have settings that Yahoo will never have. You can also link your gmail account with youtube, picasa, etc
@TheAkshay0021 it's simply to have your mail redirected to your inbox with a Server Microsoft owns. That's because Gmail and hotmail don't support Push mail
@RFTsabah Make sure you used the same password and username as in your original hotmail account. Double check it. If it doesn't work, try to delete it and try again.

@GP1890 From what I read it's not possible. You should make a Gmail account and transfer your GMX mails to it. Then you will be able to set-up your gmail account and receive everything instantly.
Btw, e-mails usually take a few seconds to receive right? cause I send myself an email too, and got it in my inbox about 10+ seconds and about 5 seconds later i got it on my ipod.
But I consider this ''instantly'' so I can't thank you enough, i like it better than fetch! :D

@lavadr Well I tried to follow your video last night, and I did everything you did. So today I woke up and I didnt get any emails, but when I checked my mail on my ipod I see a have like 4 emails or something.
I deleted my original hotmail account and replaced it was your microsoft Exchange method. also lately I noticed my ipod is VERY slow with internet and also when i want to download jailbreakapps (say doodlejump, which is only 20mb) it takes about an hour to download with max speed 6kb/s...
@jesseboy94 Maybe it's the server you are downloading from, try another source on istallous. But you are right, 6kb/s is really slow. Is everything slow in safari? Check your internet connection on a computer, it may be related to your home connection.
Ways of solving this problems can vary a lot. If you want to start from the beginning, you can reboot or even restore your iPod touch and jailbreak again. If it's slow again, you know it's not your iPod touch.
@lavadr I just came from a MacDonald's where there's wifi, and there i noticed my ipod is alot quicker than here at home.
Also my ipod made an email-sound, about half an hour ago, so that means i got your email instantly. Also, with your Microsoft Exchange method I don't have to check the same mail twice, so thanks for that! You're a great help, I'm gonna take a look at my connection here. @jesseboy94 If anyone is downloading something, it could make it slower. If you have torrents or p2p services running, it's slows your internet. Other than that, you may reset your router. If nothing works, you may want to contact your service provider. cheers!

@jkp120898 ermm, select "more videos" after this video if you are in the iPhone App (select the first one). If you are on your Safari browser, select my "lavadr" channel and select the first video in "uploads."
@jkp120898 You need to jailbreak your phone (check on my channel for the video), then you go into cydia and search for "Five Icon" and you install it. Don't hesitate if you have any questions!

@breakfree26 Yeah it's very lame they don't mention it anywhere. You have to search on google/youtube to find it yourself. Like you said, the emails aren't received as PUSH like "advertised", so they should at least mention it in the GMAIL mail client. Oh well now you can show all your friends how to do it :P

@yacirkhan It's suppose to automatically set it with your hotmail settings (that you can change on the hotmail website). Try it out. If you set it to be your name on the hotmail website, it should be your name that appears when you send an email with your iDevice.
that's correct...now it using the name setup on hotmail server (through website). I don't know if setting iDevice for the first time with Active Sync and sending the email messed up with the name already set at hotmail as it was already in place before. but anyhow, resetting it on hotmail server seems to be working now.
Thanks alot man. I was getting pretty frustrated trying to figure out why this wouldn't work when I had "Push" turned on. Didn't know Gmail didn't support it.
@maur1nhoo Unfortunatly, the only notification is the sound it makes (Mac sound for a new email) and it vibrates. If you have turned you iDevice into silent mode, it will only vibrate. There is no other notification available with the native mail app. If you download a different one, you could probably find something.
When the screen is off i think it takes maybe like a couple of mins to get notified, in my case it vibrates and plays a quick sound but the screen does not go on unlike when you receive a text message the screen goes on and you get a notification saying (text message and below the name of the person who texted you). Is there a way i can get the same notification when i turn my screen on because when i turn my screen on nothing shows up but the time and the unlock arrow.. please help!

@drwisefather Well, it should delete your emails from your hotmail inbox when you delete them on your iPhone. Because your INBOX should be synced with your iPhone. Go in Stettings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > and check if you don't have your old email account. Delete it. You should be able to delete something permanently from your computer or from your iPhone.

Btw, e-mails usually take a few seconds to receive right? cause I send myself an email too, and got it in my inbox about 10+ seconds and about 5 seconds later i got it on my ipod.
But I consider this ''instantly'' so I can't thank you enough, i like it better than fetch! :D

@jesseboy94 Yes, instantly can mean a delay of 5-30 seconds. That's faster than fetch (also uses less battery :P). Good to hear it works great!

@lavadr yeah it works great! also like i said earlier, when i read a mail on the computer, i dont have to read it again on my ipod! If it uses less battery, that's awesome too.
You would think it uses more cause you get the email when it's sent. But you dont hear me complain! thanks!!

@lavadr Well I tried to follow your video last night, and I did everything you did. So today I woke up and I didnt get any emails, but when I checked my mail on my ipod I see a have like 4 emails or something.
I deleted my original hotmail account and replaced it was your microsoft Exchange method. also lately I noticed my ipod is VERY slow with internet and also when i want to download jailbreakapps (say doodlejump, which is only 20mb) it takes about an hour to download with max speed 6kb/s...

@jesseboy94 Maybe it's the server you are downloading from, try another source on istallous. But you are right, 6kb/s is really slow. Is everything slow in safari? Check your internet connection on a computer, it may be related to your home connection.
Ways of solving this problems can vary a lot. If you want to start from the beginning, you can reboot or even restore your iPod touch and jailbreak again. If it's slow again, you know it's not your iPod touch.

@lavadr I just came from a MacDonald's where there's wifi, and there i noticed my ipod is alot quicker than here at home.
Also my ipod made an email-sound, about half an hour ago, so that means i got your email instantly. Also, with your Microsoft Exchange method I don't have to check the same mail twice, so thanks for that! You're a great help, I'm gonna take a look at my connection here. Thanks man, I will notify you if I fixed this problem, okay? But, any suggestions to fix the connection?

@jesseboy94 If anyone is downloading something, it could make it slower. If you have torrents or p2p services running, it's slows your internet. Other than that, you may reset your router. If nothing works, you may want to contact your service provider. cheers!

@jkp120898 You need to jailbreak your phone (check on my channel for the video), then you go into cydia and search for "Five Icon" and you install it. Don't hesitate if you have any questions!

thanks a bunch man! it's a shame they don't tell you how to do it in the first place. one would assume if you're setting up a gmail account by clicking on "GMail" and setting push to On, you would receive PUSH emails on your GMAIL account. but no. :P

@breakfree26 Yeah it's very lame they don't mention it anywhere. You have to search on google/youtube to find it yourself. Like you said, the emails aren't received as PUSH like "advertised", so they should at least mention it in the GMAIL mail client. Oh well now you can show all your friends how to do it :P

one problem i can see here...or maybe i'm missing some config.
when i send an email with that, it takes my email addess as a "from" part.
However, the old way has an option to put your name to be used i outgoing emails. any idea how can we do this with the Hotmail ActiveSync?

that's correct. In pop option of hotmail, you can set a "name" and the receiving part will see your name like "John Doe" in their inbox.

@yacirkhan It's suppose to automatically set it with your hotmail settings (that you can change on the hotmail website). Try it out. If you set it to be your name on the hotmail website, it should be your name that appears when you send an email with your iDevice.

that's correct...now it using the name setup on hotmail server (through website). I don't know if setting iDevice for the first time with Active Sync and sending the email messed up with the name already set at hotmail as it was already in place before. but anyhow, resetting it on hotmail server seems to be working now.

@maur1nhoo Unfortunatly, the only notification is the sound it makes (Mac sound for a new email) and it vibrates. If you have turned you iDevice into silent mode, it will only vibrate. There is no other notification available with the native mail app. If you download a different one, you could probably find something.

When the screen is off i think it takes maybe like a couple of mins to get notified, in my case it vibrates and plays a quick sound but the screen does not go on unlike when you receive a text message the screen goes on and you get a notification saying (text message and below the name of the person who texted you). Is there a way i can get the same notification when i turn my screen on because when i turn my screen on nothing shows up but the time and the unlock arrow.. please help!

@lavadr u have an idea about how i can control the hotmail inbox from the iphone mailbox ( i want to have the msgs deleted from hotmail inbox by deleting them from the iphone mailbox)

@drwisefather Well, it should delete your emails from your hotmail inbox when you delete them on your iPhone. Because your INBOX should be synced with your iPhone. Go in Stettings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > and check if you don't have your old email account. Delete it. You should be able to delete something permanently from your computer or from your iPhone.
