Ben stein is a closed minded bible thumper, besides even IF his (jewish) "god" does exist, I think we can all agree that he is an asshole. Just read the bible & see for yourself.
I bet you nobody thought about this, but the music in the background heavily influences how you feel about Ben Stein's points in that the music is very uplifting and provides you with an almost "serene" "heavenly" feeling. The way Ben Stein spoke in this video was very calm and reassuring. The combination of the way his voice sounds/the music makes you think that Ben Stein "owned" Dawkins because their two speaking styles differ so greatly in the video.
I hardly think Dawkins got "owned". If anything Stein looked very unprofessional by paraphrasing excerpt from Professor Dawkins' book in such a simplistic way. This is a classic example of the logical error that occurs when you demand somebody to prove a negative. We must learn to accept that scientific evidence and faith are not the equal. This is one of several interviews in which Dawkins, arguably one of the most brilliant minds in the world today, is patronized by "people of faith".
@ELrunner25 I totally agree with you but why is it that Richard Dawkin is one of the few scientists actively opposing Religion? Why isn't there an overwhelming force of scientists doing what Richard is doing? Is it because scientists are apathetic to the their cause or scared of the overwhelming ignorant religious views of the world? Or is it because they know that the only way the world is going to learn is through generations of scientific education not aimed directly at the Church?
On the US dollar, can you locate an "all seeing eye" represented as a pyramid capstone? At the base of the pyramid, can you find Latin words which translate to a New World Order? Illuminati symbolism, so easily documented a 5th grade elementary student writing first research paper, could easily write a factual report. Illuminati have a special label for mind-controlled brain dead, sheeple. Laugh it up class, your ass is featured on their menu with mint jelly.
An Inability To Understand, A Sworn Oath to God & Country, Does Not Disarm Or Deter The Lethal Duty To Defend God's US Constitution. You Who Attack God, Who Attack Countries & Who Attack Humanity, You Are The Enemy. Enemies Of God, Are Enemies Of Those Sworn To Protect God, Country, Constitution & Humanity.
All Men Are Created Equal, With Certain Inalienable Rights, Endowed By Our Creator. As Goes God, So Goes Freedom, Liberty & Justice For All.
Fact - Adam Smith, deliberately used the metaphor "Invisible Hand" as synonymous with God.
If Adam Smith, had used the word God instead of the metaphor "Invisble Hand", we'd be asking who was Adam Smith, but the Principle of Self Interest, Laws of Supply & Demand and the "Invisible Hand"/God would all still exist.
Ty, don't you see that one can take any religious text, whether it be the bible, tora, koran, or some scientology book and claim it is the word of God? What proof is there the bible is true and others not? You are forced to lie to yourself constantly, rationalizing every discrepancy, do mental gymnastics to justify an ideology written centuries ago likely by a ruling class to control it's people. Ask yourself why the true creator of the universe would require you to do such things.
@theduderabides Prophecy is the difference. There is no other religious book that can explain past, present, and future. The bible even says that God placed prophecy in the bible for those who don't believe it was devinely inspired. Look at all other religious writings and you won't see anything close to the proven prophecies of the bible
@tyrnado The bible talks about God not wanting his people to be ruled by any one other than Himself. He said that if they didnt use the word of God and the presence of God in their own lives as the sole authority that they would have continuous problems. He didn't want to give his people a king but they wanted to be like other nations of the world. The bible was not written to have humans abuse control over other humans.
not found in the Vedas, Shasters, or Puranas of the Hindus, nor the Zend Avestas of the Parsees, nor the Kojiki Nohonki, of the Shintos of Japan, nor the law books of Manu, nor the Koran of the Mohammedans, nor the Kan-Ying-Peen or Tao-Te-King of the Chinese, nor the Tripitakas of the Buddhists.
What's the point of these voice-overs? a) He can't defend himself in an interview if you don't actually make your point DURING the interview, and b) You act as though you're summarizing what he said, but at the same time you're putting words in his mouth to make him look bad.
If an alien landed on our planet today and asked you to explain your planet and life here on earth, how would you explain "Love"? If he had never experienced Love before how would you explain the feeling or prove that it even existed on this planet? Would he think you were crazy when you tell him it is one of the most powerful things on your planet but you have no way of showing it or proving it to him? Really take the time to think about this one before you respond...
i had lunch with ben stein yesterday and showed him my theory. he was very impressed and said it should be made public. i have posted what happened on you-tube site "un human rights chief highlights australian".
Bob, an atheist doesn't claim to know God does not exist, just that there is no substantial evidence that he does - so why believe something which has no evidence? Furthermore, there is just as much evidence that any other god conjured up by humans exists, such as Muhammad, as a Christian God, or for humours sake, a flying spaghetti monster. So that any god believed in by humans is very unlikely. Stein debunked nothing, he simply asked a lot of leading questions of very little relevance.
Stein asked for a number of probablity in Dawkin's mind that god existed. Dawkins threw 99% out there(his personal opinion). Then Stein accusses Dawkins of not knowing the probability of god's existance!
Dawkins didn't specify god as being a creator. He said we could be a science project of another unknown race. I suppose you could say that these creators are "god".
Dawkins did well keeping his head on, and not falling into Stein's traps.
@ghenry85 are you in some way handycapped or dump? dawkins did miserable in this interview. he was OWNED! by stating, that life was seeded on the earth he just avoided the question "how started life on earth" by saying "maybe the life started elsewhere on the universe, and through some event it came to earth". but the important question "HOW DID LIFE BEGIN" was not answered.
@Bob37128 and you must be handicapped if you believe Dawkins claimed life was seeded on earth. He was only responding to a design possibility which could have occurred, to simply show that it didn't solve the question since the designer would still have had to come from somewhere. The important question of "HOW DID LIFE BEGIN" is of course unanswered, because we do not have one. Why is that so hard to understand?
I believe that someone farted and Ben Stein was created, for that I am sure.., his level of intellect is of an absurd -stupendously- moronic -mentally challenged school boy. I wouldn't give to this IGNORAMUS one second of my time...
Given that the universe is all the matter and energy in existence and assuming God existed before the creation of the universe then by deductive reasoning that would mean God is neither matter nor energy but something else entirely. Now, if science is the study of the universe or, in other words, the study of matter and energy and God is neither, wouldn't it be futile to attempt to prove or disprove God through science? And wouldn't that mean that science and religion could coexist peacefully?
Something else to consider...Science is based off of observation. Any one who has knowledge of the law knows eye witness testimony is the weakest form of evidence. You can have 20 different people to look at the same thing and get 20 different view points. This is why, even within the evolutionist community, there is no single concept. I however rest in believing what the bible says about Christ's return. It says EVERY eye shall see him and EVERY knee will bow, and EVERY tounge will confess
(continued from above)...that HE is Lord. This means that everyone, past and present, will see and come to the same conclusion that there is a God. Now I know many of you think that is foolish now but I believe that according to this bible verse even you will one day have NO DOUBTS. I hope you all realize that it will never be possible for everyone to believe what you believe. No matter what you find, measure, make up, or analyze... I can smile cause my "version" ends VERY WELL :) Try Jesus...
if you look at God the way Dawkins just quoted as saying out of his book he would be right. I don.t know how christians can say God is love. I onced believed God is love. I do believe in intelligent design though. from who or what I really don't know. It is all so very confusing
All of these evolutionists seem to be motivated by the same thing Darwin was motivated by... He wasn't moved to study an alternative view to creation because of any SCIENTIFIC DATA that contradicted the earth being created; he didn't like the idea of the character of God. Now how can you ethically study evidence with a preconcieved bias that's STRICTLY motivated by personal dislike of someones CHARACTER. That is like trying to prove an architect couldn't have made something because he's a racist
Typical of Richie to dig his own hole and eventually fall in it, what amazes me is the fact that he has others that follow him... hmm...blind leading the blind. Don't bother commenting back tossers you're wasting your time lol.
I honestly liked this video. But it seems most theists dont understand that he doesnt beleive in it because there is no evidence. If science started to point to that there was a god im sure Richard would gladly look into it and if it came more reasonable he would except it. But as of right now there simply is no evidence.
How could every male and female reproducing species have evolved into seperate species who depend on each other to reproduce. This would mean that there had to be some exploision that would create a male version out of a lesser life form and a totally seperate female version of a lesser life form that would be able to control whether or not they wanted to continue to exist by having babies. & this didn't happen to just the human race but every male and female species on this planet. Ridiculous
How can you get order and laws out of an explosion or from chance. What scientist can't prove they cover it up with saying it happened over billions of years. That is their version of faith. They don't know how it could have happened so they hide behind something that is fairy tale. How can what they say took billions of years to do now only take 9 months to do? Ever think about that? Thats a HUGE difference. Does that make sense to you?
If you get to the core of all evolution THEORIES you will see that everything is based on chance & not design. If we are able to have thoughts & choices where do they come from. You will say from the brain. But again the brain came from something else, right? It came from other matter, right? Well if that matter you think created your brain doesn't have a brain itself, how did it decide you needed a brain? Same thing with DNA. How could DNA be a set of instructions & rules formed from chance?
@tyrnado You absolutely own which your suggestions love it keep it up man, you are exercising wisdom here, it's nice to see that someone has a brain and uses it correctly, awesome stuff!
@Wiredkid1 I chose to believe the bible's record of how the world was created. Darwin Evolutionists discuss how things were formed but don't give any logical solution to how those things have thoughts, ideas, emotions, desires, etc... The bible seems to have an answer to all of those things. I think the purpose of us being created is fully outlined in the bible as well. I think that our pain and sorrows are discussed, explained, and remedied in the bible as well.
@tyrnado I'm not trying to attack you here, just clarifying some things. So you believe that this was engineered for us? I forget the passage, but it says god put the stars in the sky for us to look at, you believe he did all this for us human beings?
@tyrnado The bible does not explain how anything was created, in a logical sense at all. It doesn't explain how hell was never a firey place until the divine comedy was written. The bible does not explain that people believe cavemen and women existed, yet christians and many other religions somehow think the story of Adam and Eve is true. If it was true, Adam and eve would have to be the first "cave people" with no language, order, intelligence, civilization, etc.
@IntiChabert87 The Bible says it was created by the word of God and planned out and not by chance. It gives a source of how the ability to think and decide entered into man. Although you may not think it is logical it is easier to accept than the idea that brains were created/formed from something that didn't have a brain. If that's logical to you then i will certainly PRAY for you. :)
@IntiChabert87 Huh?? Follow the geneology that is recorded in the bible. It traces Jesus all the way back to Adam & Eve. Who has done a geneolgy record traced back to a caveman? There should be at least one if ALL HUMANS came from an ape. I really suggest reading that geneology and pause and think about how this might lead you to the answers evolution will never be able to provide
@tyrnado That's ridiculous. If that were true, then it would be accepted by the scientific community, but since such geneology does not exist, or is false, it was never the headline of a newspaper, or on CNN, or anything like that. But perhaps something that momentous could slip under the radar to most people. Send me a link, or something to look this up.
@IntiChabert87 How is that ridiculous. The scientific world has even recently reported that there is a strand of DNA in everyone that can be traced back to one man and one woman in Africa. Have you not been keeping up with this? Jesus' geneology was recorded This is recorded in the New Testament Luke 3:23–38. I hope that is not your test of what is true and what is fale (if it was reported on CNN).
@fazelol It would be so easy for people to disprove the bible if they could show where God has lied. Prophecy that was told in the bible has happened and been recorded in history books. Nothing that God says about the world is contradicted. I would suggest studying the biblical health laws (people who follow them live longer than everyone else in the world. check out the studies done on this & featured in national geographic, 20/20, good morning america).
@dakerson1234 Again, someone who has read a verse or two of the Bible and thinks he knows the character of the Biblical God. Just as idiotic of me to think you don't have a brain because you write a few comments saying you believe you were formed by something that didn't have a brain. Your theories will never be accepted by all because your scientists cant even agree on one theory and stick with it. The bible record doesn't have to be changed to make you feel more "comfortable" with it.
@tyrnado Can't stick to one theory? That's how science works. They hypothesize they they test theorize they test again. If something doesnt fit they start over.
@dakerson1234 Well you all keep testing, adding and subtracting. I am going to keep believing what I believe cause I have gotten the results I need from my own personal test. The bible has given me answers to my past, present, and future. It has answered scientific, sociological, financial, and philisophical questions that I had. I have no need or desire to search any longer.
@tyrnado i read that comment you removed and I agree. Evolution is a fact but that doesnt mean you can't just say that god just magically poofed it into existence. The only problem is the bible says the earth is 6000 years old and biology, geology, genetics...etc. all prove that it's not. You can't believe the Bible AND believe in evolution
@dakerson1234 Again, you assume that God created the earth in the form of something that was not fully developed. The bible record doesn't say that Adam was an infant. The bible also says that the earth was without form and void before God shaped it into what it is now. So there could have been unorganized matter that he created years before shaping it during creation week.
@tyrnado The Bible also says "Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel." (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT) Should we all be put to death simply because on occasion we haven't listened to our priest?
@dakerson1234 I won't try to act like I am a more fit judge than God by saying this was unjust. The bible clearly says that "My (God's) ways are not like your ways. As high as the heavens are above the earth so are my ways higher than yours." Now, i may not understand his ways of judging but that is not surprising to me because I don't know how to create the sun, moon, earth, & stars. If the bible claimed to be about a God I should be equal to i would question this, but it doesnt
@tyrnado You're ignoring the fact that the majority of people that attend church should be killed. The fact that you're not killing them (i hope you're not killing anyone) is a slap in the face to your mighty God
@dakerson1234 i'm ignoring the fact that you have not read the bible to realize that God was speaking to the israelites of that time for whatever purpose he had at that time. that is an account that moses was giving to the people AT THAT TIME. the new testament shows another side of God where he comes & sacrifices his Son for all sins. I have already told you what would get me to change my mind and consider your evolution theories more closely. You should be researching that :)
@tyrnado I have read the bible and it's bullshit. I used to be christian and believe all the crap you do but then i started thinking for myself. Take a the Jesus goggles off and start using your brain.
@tyrnado Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
@tyrnado They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
@dakerson1234 I would suggest that you view a video on youtube called Erasing Hell by Francis Chan for you to start to understand why these verses don't cause me to lose faith in the biblical God. I'll check in on you tomorrow to see what you have come up with. I am going to bed now. Have church in the morning :)
@dakerson1234 That's the problem. It never fits. And you can't point to one single piece of physical evidence that so called supports evolution theories that couldn't be explained by a creator! NOT ONE! But on the reverse there are numerous questions that are left with any evolution theory that supports a creator.
@dakerson1234 I have something I want your scientists to test. I happen to believe in the biblical health laws. I believe that a God who created me should know the best way to keep me in optimal condition. I belong to a group of creationism believing bible carrying christians who also follow the biblical health laws very closely. Scientists have done research and found that this group lives longer than everyone else in the WORLD.
@tyrnado Also, if i'm sick i'll see a doctor! While you're praying for your dying child instead of getting basic medical care that'll save his/her life, i'll be getting vaccinated and live a long healthy life.
@dakerson1234 Oh, I go to the doctor and pray too. Oh, and when you find the film you may see your doctor in the group. We make up a great deal of the doctors and nurses throughout the world. World Recognized Physicians who believe in God and creation
@dakerson1234 you seemed to be trying to seperate people who believe in God from people who would use a doctor or practice medicine. Just wanted you to know there doesn't have to be line drawn to seperate the two.
@tyrnado wow...just..wow. No what I am trying to say is that medical doctors are no legitimate authority on any of the theories you bible thumpers ignorantly bash. Simply saying that a bunch of Phd's believe what I believe doesn't make your point valid.
@dakerson1234 You must be sleepy. Cause you are missing something here. You said that i would just pray and not get medical help while you would go to the doctor. I am responding to that by letting you know that I and other bible believing christians believe in medicine too. And we believe in it to the point where some of us work in that field even as doctors and nurses. Calm down...everything is cool. Try taking a sheet :)
@tyrnado I watched the video. The moral is: if something seems wrong about God, then there is something wrong with you because God has a plan. If you really believe that then you're hopeless
@dakerson1234 No the moral is: in order to judge God's actions you would have to assume your sense of justice is more developed than God's. What the video is saying is to consider the possibility that his sense of justice is more developed than ours. Again, i would suggest all of you who have a problem with what seems to be an "evil" God described in the Bible to watch " Erasing Hell by Francis Chan"
@tyrnado This is not a ridiculous idea. Just look at how certain governments look at other governments and countries. People are always assuming their sense of right and wrong is better than someone else's. Thats what most wars are about. Whether its political, religious, or social; it is still about who is right and who is wrong. To note: the weapons and bombs used in these wars are made by scientists. Are they just as evil as the God of the bible?
@tyrnado If there is no ultimate judge and we are all here as a result of chance with no purpose in life, how and why do we try to tell people what is right and wrong? do you suggest that we let every one out of prison? I mean murderes are only doing what the chemicals in there heads are forcing them to do right? Its natural for them to think that way. Let them naturally become extinct instead of trying to cast judgement on their natural reactions. Who are we to judge? We're all apes!!
@tyrnado We must derive our own meaning out of life. We can derive our morals and laws through rational thought... which is actually what we have done in the western world.
@theduderabides who decides what is rational? who sets the standard for being rational if you do not believe in something higher than you? in math we know a mile is a mile from comparing it to a distance that has been preset as the standard mile. a foot is compared to a distance that has been preset as the standard foot. how do you agree on what is right and wrong if there is no original/standard/creator of "perfect" rationale to compare it to? i believe it to be God's law
@tyrnado You're welcome to hold whatever belief you feel is valid; however, you ought to know it is based on no evidence. In fact, what you call God's law which I assume is the Ten Commandments from the old testament was most certainly created by man. Who decides what is rational you ask? We do: (Wikipedia rationality)
I can easily derive rationally why stealing is wrong, i.e. bad for society. Same for murder. I'm sure you can as well.
@theduderabides Which society? This is different in different societies. Some people think it's ok to murder when in war or when executing someone for certain crimes. Some people don't believe its good for society to kill in war or as a punishment for a crime. Who is right? A society of thieves (ie., a gang) thinks stealing is great. They can get what they want without paying for it or working for it. Who can tell them that's wrong if we are all just here by mistake/chance??
@tyrnado I consider God's law to be anything he has asked us to do which includes the 10 commandments. I believe the bible was written by man under the inspiration of God (as stated in the bible) but the 10 commandments were actually written by the finger of God. And they did not just exist when they were given to Moses to give to the Israelites. They existed from the beginning of Adam and Eve. The Sabbath was introduced during the creation week & murder was punished with Cain/Abel
@tyrnado The bible was written by Romans 300-400 years AFTER yes AFTER the death of Jesus, and it wasn't one man it was a group of men. The Emperor of the Roman Empire was one of those men. When writing a book that means so much to the masses, do you think he would put something like "God wants you to do what is best for you" or would he put something like god has the right to police your life. The Catholic church was the first Christian religion and the Vatican is in Rome, heart of the empire.
@Tudorel98 I don't even know where to begin with this one...Where are you getting your information from? Constantine was prophesied of in the old testament and it was not in a good light. He is the one who attempted to change God's law by instituting a 1st day/Sunday Sabbath to try to unite Christians with the pagan people under his rule who worshiped the Sun. The desciples were the first Christians (followers of Christ). The Romans did not write the bible. Wow!
@Tudorel98 yup they dont mean anything.... romans wrote the bible...that why we have the original old testemant found in ISREAL in 1949, written in HEBREW! -_-
@tyrnado Certainly rationally minded people can tell a band of thieves they are wrong to steal! Are you suggesting the thieves are rationally minded?
To your other point, doesn't it seem pretty reasonable to keep a very high standard for when killing is justified? Rational doesn't equal easy, and even reasonable people can disagree. But simply claiming something is right or wrong because "God say's so" is both unreasonable and pretty lazy
@theduderabides but if natural selection says the strong survive then why are we telling them not to do what they feel they have to do to survive? what about white collar thieves and mercahnts that rip people off? or governments who may tax more than they have to? What is rational or right and wrong can't be determined by numbers either. Think about what was once considered right or acceptable by the masses that isn't any longer. How can we determine a universal high standard?
Now assume for a minute that God did make the universe. Wouldn't he know how to instruct us how to keep it running optimally? Wouldn't he be authorized to tell us how to keep the planet in the best condition possible? Just like a car company puts out an owner's manual to give the driver instructions on how to keep the car running in good and safe conditions; wouldnt it make sense for God to leave a manual? Do we get mad at the car company for telling us to use gas instead of milk?
@tyrnado Why do we assume that God's laws are there to control us instead of instructions to protect and save us? I have mentioned a few times in this page that scientists have studied various groups who live long and they found out that people who keep the biblical health laws live longer than everyone in the world. i belong to the group that was studied. Please view this study and tell me who wouldn't want to know how to live longer? Please find the national geographic study on this
@tyrnado You seem to be twisting up a lot of principles here. I could try to answer each question individually but first explain how these questions are even relevant? Are you suggesting your religion has the answers? If so, then where is your evidence? Why should anyone believe your religion has the correct moral judgement over another? You must be able to see it is much better to base your believes on things which can be proven. Sure, our ideas of morality have changed, we've learned!
@theduderabides I'm addressing various problems with the conclusion some athiests and some evolutionists try to draw. I'm continuing with the subject and main theme of the discussion I was having with dakerson1234 (you replied to one of those points). I'm saying that if no one made us and we're all here just by chance (with no goal but to live as long as we can) then how can we try to tell people how to live at all. What right do any of us have to tell someone how to live?
@tyrnado I believe that if God did make us he has the right and the knowledge to give us the standard for living. If you don't believe that I don't try to force you to. I just share my faith with people and why I believe the way I do. I have studied the prophecies of the bible for myself and have seen the scriptures line up with history books to the very year it said an event would occur. I practice the health laws in the bible which have been shown to produce the longest living group
@tyrnado Now you're getting somewhere. You've touched upon one of the biggest critiques of religion. Religions tells people how they should live based on what some people claim God says, without any proof. I reject this notion. To the extent that our society should control individual behavior, it ought to be based on rational thought, not superstition. This is, for the most part, how the western world is run, by the way.
@theduderabides I believe that obeying the laws of the bible are beneficial to me. I don't keep them because I feel like I am being forced to. I have not read anything in the bible that has been proven to be false. However, I have seen NUMEROUS prophecies that have been fulfilled & noticed MAJOR benefits of health laws and the concepts it teaches about taking care of my community and the less fortunate. I dont like the way some people use religion but I dont blame God for that
We still have an issue with telling people how to live based on OUR rationale or the MASSES rationale. Everyone will never agree on everything. And society will still be telling people what to do based on something that is not PROVEN to be right? Because what will you define right to be? What will we define rational to be? How can that be measured or proven? What is your definition of rational or how should the entire world determine what is rational?
@tyrnado Your last few questions are all matters of debate, but it is demonstrable that we as a society can solve most of these questions. The laws of the western world have been written based on the emergence of rational thought which was the outcome of the enlightenment. Modern day democracy has provided us with arguably the most just civilization in the history of mankind. Is it perfect? Doubtful, but it is certainly better than past eras which relied on religious dogma.
we can give our opinions on these issues but these are things that can never be proven to be "universally just". It will always be arguable if everyone on earth can't agree on a standard of justice. At the same time we feel we have the most just civilization other countries think we are the most evil people who have ever lived. How can a world with two completely extreme versions of justice meet on a common ground & agree on a universal standard of justice?
the only way this will ever be possible is if there was a universal model of justice or a perfect judge. a thing or person who could define justice on a UNIVERSAL scale...Not limited by geography.
@tyrnado That is a great question. I had the answer I would do my best to share it! To complicate the issue more I would assume there are more than just two viewpoints here. But I can quite comfortably assume that resorting to religion to solve these problems would only take us backward. Do you believe that Christianity and Islam will ever be compatible? It seems much more likely to me that when the rest of the world accepts rational thought over superstition we will be closer to our goal.
@tyrnado Do you really want me to provide you with a list of things in the bible which have been proven false? I won't disagree that many of the moral concepts from the bible are also reasonable, but there are also plenty which are not - such as the idea that a woman should defer to a man, or that slavery is just. There are also plenty of reasonable moral concepts in Islam or Hinduism, etc. Just because there are some good ideas in the bible doesn't make it God's word.
Reading the bible in a cut and paste style will definitely leave a person scratching their heads. It happened to me and still happens to me at times. But every time it happens the more i keep reading the more it makes sense to me. Reading multiple verses on each subject & keeping certain verses in the context of the era they were written has continuously resulted in an increase of my faith instead of losing it like i imagined i would when faced with such questions (slaves, womens roles, etc..)
no i'm applying the whole bible to itself and not just one or two verses. i test its consistency and tried to read every verse that is in the bible concerning a particular theme i have a question about. that is the way the bible says it was made to be read. "to compare line upon line, precept upon precept". a lot of people who read it dont study it in that way. they may read the whole thing but don't study it one theme at a time.
and a lot of people dont like the idea that they can't easily understand everything that the bible says about God and who he is and what he does. If you watch the video on here called "Erasing Hell by Francis Chan" it discusses the issue i'm touching on now.
@tyrnado Ideas not easily explained are fascinating to me, especially when proven true. You are simply basing your belief on faith. I choose to base my beliefs on facts - especially very important ones. Everything else I am comfortable with leaving unresolved. When it is necessary to make a decision based on incomplete information, I rely on sound rational judgement, not the claims of people who believe on faith. This is why I am particularly worried about Islamic regimes currently.
@tyrnado I don't like depending on other peoples ideas as the sole reason for my belief. Anything a minister or person of faith advises me to do I always search the bible to see if it is actually what I would conclude from studying myself. people take one or two verses in the bible and try to manipulate people into doing immoral things. that is the danger in religion. but the bible warns against this too
If you do a full study on the slaves mentioned in the old testament you will find out there were 2 types. There were slaves that were from Canaan that were taken as a result of a curse that was placed on Ham (Noah's son) and his sons as a form of punishment. the other type were Jewish slaves (which actually the hebrew word used in their case is closer to the english word servant). There were 2 ways Jews would become slaves to other Jews. (1)To repay a debt they couldn't pay for
@tyrnado I would invite you to do the research on this. It was featured in national geographic, on cnn, and 20/20 to name a few. Now if evolutionists who claim to know more about how bodies were formed and evolved don't live longer than this group why would i believe it and reject the biblical source at the risk of dying sooner :)
@dakerson1234 Let's assume that your accusations were true about the character of God of the Bible. That doesn't make it false that he could have created the world. That's like saying that a racist, extremely cruel, murderer couldn't be an architect. Now that is an easily fooled moron!
@tyrnado No you're right. I have read the Bible and like you said, he is racist cruel and most definitely a murderer....no murder is not harsh enough. Global genocide is more like it
@dakerson1234 I hope you are intelligent enough to realize when someone is using the basis of your argument to show you the flaws in your conclusion. That is still not a reason to believe the earth couldnt have been CREATED. Character or moral compass has nothing to do with your ability to create. It amazes me how scientist are supposed to be only motivated by finding the truth but evolution theorists get SO EMOTIONAL when discussing this. Pray, it'll be ok :)
@tyrnado What scientists do you know and when do they get emotional? What are you even talking about? Try making actual points rather than attack people. Religion is primitive man's way of explaining away the unknown. I find it sad that the religious are willfully ignorant of the facts presented in the world around them simply because it doesnt agree with their God. I truly feel sorry for you.
@dakerson1234 Have you not watched this film that you are commenting on? Do you not know the main point of the film. People have been fired and blackballed by their peers for wanting to discuss this in the classroom.
@tyrnado That's because what they are trying to teach isn't science! If I were a math teacher trying to teach in a public school that 2 + 2 = 7 then you would expect that I wouldnt last too long as a teacher right? Same thing applies here. Not to mention that whole pesky separation of church and state business..
@Wiredkid1 I think God's origanal plan was for us to live a life of love, worship and order. I believe God made us originally in his image. Not to be him but to have characteristics that were reflections of his image. I believe that God loves to create things and that he has stopped creating now in order to save us because we fell to sin. And that he will create a new heaven and a new earth once he has finished the judgement of all and eradicated sin on earth.
@tyrnado So...God made a Universe for a single species, where less than 1% of it is habitable for the species? In this universe he made one planet to house the species...and less than 1% of that planet won't end life instantly. Where even just on the surface of the planet alone, 70% of it is salt water, and will kill that species. So...God is an engineer that is less than 1% effective at what he does...I don't know about you...But I'd fire somebody over that kind of track record.
@Wiredkid1 The bible doesn't say any of the things you are claiming about the universe. First of all, the bible says that man fell to sin and man and the earth have become flawed by sin. Secondly, the bible speaks of God having other sons from other planets that did not fall to sin. How do you know how big the universe is. You can't give a percentage of how much of it is inhabited if you dont know exactly how big it is. And you can't assume its only as big as our instruments can see
@tyrnado "The bible doesn't say any of the things you are claiming about the universe."....Isn't that funny? "speaks of God having other sons from other planets that did not fall to sin." HA, where!?!? "You can't give a percentage of how much of it is inhabited if you dont know exactly how big it is." Matter doesn't even make up 1% of the total expanse of the universe...This is not a difficult concept.
@tyrnado There is only one theory of evolution. You clearly don't understand what the word theory means and you don't want to. Keep regurgitating the same debunked creationist crap that morons like you copy and paste straight from that felon Kent Hovind. Read a book outside of your own beliefs to at least understand the other sides view.
@dakerson1234 I dont have to read Kent Hovind. I don't even know who he is. I don't need to. I only need the bible and common sense to know order doesn't come out of chaos or by chance. There is order ALL around us and you want to teach people that it is all by accident. I keep asking you all to explain other things like love, joy, right and wrong...How do you measure or even account for these things with science? It makes no sense to have these things without a purpose or reason
No Ben Stein, Richard Dawkins did not think so-called intelligent design is a legitimate pursuit, you obviously weren't listening, you moronic moron. This is the crucial in-balance between the two parties; science is patiently open to debate, reason, logic, and factual evidence, whereas religion is so stuck on their own ideas, they ignore everything that doesn't fit it, to an extent beyond reason.
"so Richard Dawkins admits intelligent design could have happened"
If Ben Stein paid attention he would hear what Richard Dawkins actually said and not what he wanted. He said to paraphrase "That life would have started by a natural, explainable means" and that "for all we know that life on earth was started by other intelligent alien life." absolutly anything is possible. At least hes honest enough to admit that. Ben asserts that he knows based on faultable "evidence" and often guess work.
@NicosMind did you not hear when he said there is evidence to support a designer too but he doesn't think God would be a good candidate (because of his CHARACTER). Again, just like Darwin, Dawkins refuses to seriously consider studying science with the possibility of there being a God because he doesnt like his "CHARACTER". What kind of scientist are these. The same thing they accuse all religious groups of, manipulating people for personal gains, they're actually guilty of!
@tyrnado No he didnt say there was proof. He said that it could be possible. But what proof is there. It would be famous. Ben Stein would be shouting about it as loud as he can along with every other creationist.
When you do science you have to do it with no presumed knowledge beforehand. You can do it to test a hypothesis of cause and affect. But no one can dismiss ANY supernatural claims cause by definition its not testable and by definition its not science
@NicosMind please read my comment again and watch the video again. He said there is evidence to support it. But that evidence won't be studied more because it has already been determined that scientists won't accept anything less than theories that lead away from a creator or intelligent design. Darwin decided to study evolution because he was angry at "God" because his daughter died. His whole purpose of studying was motivated by an extremely biased factor.
LOL. Stein is so damn stupid. He doesn't get that Dawkins was just being charitable with how intelligent designers could exist, but the question would remain of the natural process (not supernatural) that came about to create the designers. Ergo, just putting evolution back further, not justifying a deity.
@ShaneyCunn84 It's not fair to debate with retarded people, no matter how much they ask for it. There's a reason that we have laws against imprisoning the mentally ill as well.
@MatheusLegenda Atheists need new ammo, the old "Offend the person" is getting old.
I think both Craig and Dawkins are intelligent men on opposing sides. If Atheism considers itself the correct way of thinking, why not put Atheism's best v Theist best - Dawkins V Craig 'The Final Showdown'..
@ShaneyCunn84 I know. You think Craig is intelligent. Dawkins has more important things to do than set time aside to titillate Craig's ego. Harris, Dennett, and now deceased Hitchens were into these public shows. Dawkins is a real scientist though with a lot of work left, and our time alive is limited. Dawkins can't spend his life wasting away taking jackasses seriously just because they asked for some attention. Ray Comfort is another buffoon. They don't understand science at all. It's a waste
@ShaneyCunn84 I guess you don't get what spin is. This isn't damage control for an unseemly event that occurred. Isn't it enough that he got to meet with Harris? This isn't a boxing championship where Craig goes from one to the next to show that he's the winner. Listen. There's nothing for Dawkins to gain by wasting his time talking to Craig. Get that? He only loses by wasting his time. Craig meanwhile can only gain by arguing with the great Dawkins to put it on his online resume.
Even in Ben Stein's edited version of the interview, Dawkins crushes him easily.

I bet you nobody thought about this, but the music in the background heavily influences how you feel about Ben Stein's points in that the music is very uplifting and provides you with an almost "serene" "heavenly" feeling. The way Ben Stein spoke in this video was very calm and reassuring. The combination of the way his voice sounds/the music makes you think that Ben Stein "owned" Dawkins because their two speaking styles differ so greatly in the video.
knowthetruthx20 1 day ago
I hardly think Dawkins got "owned". If anything Stein looked very unprofessional by paraphrasing excerpt from Professor Dawkins' book in such a simplistic way. This is a classic example of the logical error that occurs when you demand somebody to prove a negative. We must learn to accept that scientific evidence and faith are not the equal. This is one of several interviews in which Dawkins, arguably one of the most brilliant minds in the world today, is patronized by "people of faith".
ELrunner25 3 days ago 8
@ELrunner25 I totally agree with you but why is it that Richard Dawkin is one of the few scientists actively opposing Religion? Why isn't there an overwhelming force of scientists doing what Richard is doing? Is it because scientists are apathetic to the their cause or scared of the overwhelming ignorant religious views of the world? Or is it because they know that the only way the world is going to learn is through generations of scientific education not aimed directly at the Church?

Fact - Economics is a Social Science, College of Liberal Arts.
Fact - Adam Smith's Classical Economic Theory, was Scientificly proven true & correct 250+ yrs ago.

Ask yourself why the true creator of the universe would require you to do such things.
theduderabides 4 days ago

Bob37128 5 days ago
Stein asked for a number of probablity in Dawkin's mind that god existed. Dawkins threw 99% out there(his personal opinion). Then Stein accusses Dawkins of not knowing the probability of god's existance!
Dawkins didn't specify god as being a creator. He said we could be a science project of another unknown race. I suppose you could say that these creators are "god".
Dawkins did well keeping his head on, and not falling into Stein's traps.
ghenry85 5 days ago
@ghenry85 are you in some way handycapped or dump? dawkins did miserable in this interview. he was OWNED! by stating, that life was seeded on the earth he just avoided the question "how started life on earth" by saying "maybe the life started elsewhere on the universe, and through some event it came to earth". but the important question "HOW DID LIFE BEGIN" was not answered.
Bob37128 5 days ago
@Bob37128 and you must be handicapped if you believe Dawkins claimed life was seeded on earth. He was only responding to a design possibility which could have occurred, to simply show that it didn't solve the question since the designer would still have had to come from somewhere. The important question of "HOW DID LIFE BEGIN" is of course unanswered, because we do not have one. Why is that so hard to understand?

If you get to the core of all evolution THEORIES you will see that everything is based on chance & not design. If we are able to have thoughts & choices where do they come from. You will say from the brain. But again the brain came from something else, right? It came from other matter, right? Well if that matter you think created your brain doesn't have a brain itself, how did it decide you needed a brain? Same thing with DNA. How could DNA be a set of instructions & rules formed from chance?

Wiredkid1 1 week ago
@Wiredkid1 I chose to believe the bible's record of how the world was created. Darwin Evolutionists discuss how things were formed but don't give any logical solution to how those things have thoughts, ideas, emotions, desires, etc... The bible seems to have an answer to all of those things. I think the purpose of us being created is fully outlined in the bible as well. I think that our pain and sorrows are discussed, explained, and remedied in the bible as well.
tyrnado 1 week ago
@tyrnado I'm not trying to attack you here, just clarifying some things. So you believe that this was engineered for us? I forget the passage, but it says god put the stars in the sky for us to look at, you believe he did all this for us human beings?
Wiredkid1 1 week ago

I really suggest reading that geneology and pause and think about how this might lead you to the answers evolution will never be able to provide
tyrnado 6 days ago
@tyrnado That's ridiculous. dakerson1234 1 week ago

Such evil must be purged from Israel." @dakerson1234 That's the problem.

And we believe in it to the point where some of us work in that field even as doctors and nurses. Calm down...everything is cool. Try taking a sheet :)

@tyrnado I watched the video. The moral is: if something seems wrong about God, then there is something wrong with you because God has a plan. If you really believe that then you're hopeless
dakerson1234 1 week ago
@dakerson1234 No the moral is: in order to judge God's actions you would have to assume your sense of justice is more developed than God's. What the video is saying is to consider the possibility that his sense of justice is more developed than ours. Again, i would suggest all of you who have a problem with what seems to be an "evil" God described in the Bible to watch " Erasing Hell by Francis Chan"
tyrnado 6 days ago
@tyrnado This is not a ridiculous idea. Just look at how certain governments look at other governments and countries. People are always assuming their sense of right and wrong is better than someone else's. Thats what most wars are about. Whether its political, religious, or social; it is still about who is right and who is wrong. To note: the weapons and bombs used in these wars are made by scientists. Are they just as evil as the God of the bible?
tyrnado 6 days ago
@tyrnado If there is no ultimate judge and we are all here as a result of chance with no purpose in life, how and why do we try to tell people what is right and wrong? do you suggest that we let every one out of prison? I mean murderes are only doing what the chemicals in there heads are forcing them to do right? Its natural for them to think that way. Let them naturally become extinct instead of trying to cast judgement on their natural reactions. Who are we to judge? We're all apes!!
tyrnado 6 days ago
@tyrnado We must derive our own meaning out of life. We can derive our morals and laws through rational thought... which is actually what we have done in the western world.
theduderabides 5 days ago
@theduderabides who decides what is rational? who sets the standard for being rational if you do not believe in something higher than you? in math we know a mile is a mile from comparing it to a distance that has been preset as the standard mile. a foot is compared to a distance that has been preset as the standard foot. how do you agree on what is right and wrong if there is no original/standard/creator of "perfect" rationale to compare it to? i believe it to be God's law
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado You're welcome to hold whatever belief you feel is valid; however, you ought to know it is based on no evidence. In fact, what you call God's law which I assume is the Ten Commandments from the old testament was most certainly created by man. Who decides what is rational you ask? We do: (Wikipedia rationality)
I can easily derive rationally why stealing is wrong, i.e. bad for society. Same for murder. I'm sure you can as well.
theduderabides 5 days ago
@theduderabides Which society? This is different in different societies. Some people think it's ok to murder when in war or when executing someone for certain crimes. Some people don't believe its good for society to kill in war or as a punishment for a crime. Who is right? A society of thieves (ie., a gang) thinks stealing is great. They can get what they want without paying for it or working for it. Who can tell them that's wrong if we are all just here by mistake/chance??
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado I consider God's law to be anything he has asked us to do which includes the 10 commandments. I believe the bible was written by man under the inspiration of God (as stated in the bible) but the 10 commandments were actually written by the finger of God. And they did not just exist when they were given to Moses to give to the Israelites. They existed from the beginning of Adam and Eve. The Sabbath was introduced during the creation week & murder was punished with Cain/Abel
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado The bible was written by Romans 300-400 years AFTER yes AFTER the death of Jesus, and it wasn't one man it was a group of men. The Emperor of the Roman Empire was one of those men. When writing a book that means so much to the masses, do you think he would put something like "God wants you to do what is best for you" or would he put something like god has the right to police your life. The Catholic church was the first Christian religion and the Vatican is in Rome, heart of the empire.
Tudorel98 5 days ago
@Tudorel98 I don't even know where to begin with this one...Where are you getting your information from? Constantine was prophesied of in the old testament and it was not in a good light. He is the one who attempted to change God's law by instituting a 1st day/Sunday Sabbath to try to unite Christians with the pagan people under his rule who worshiped the Sun. The desciples were the first Christians (followers of Christ). The Romans did not write the bible. Wow!

But simply claiming something is right or wrong because "God say's so" is both unreasonable and pretty lazy
theduderabides 5 days ago
@theduderabides but if natural selection says the strong survive then why are we telling them not to do what they feel they have to do to survive? what about white collar thieves and mercahnts that rip people off? or governments who may tax more than they have to? What is rational or right and wrong can't be determined by numbers either. Think about what was once considered right or acceptable by the masses that isn't any longer. How can we determine a universal high standard?
tyrnado 5 days ago
Now assume for a minute that God did make the universe. Wouldn't he know how to instruct us how to keep it running optimally? Wouldn't he be authorized to tell us how to keep the planet in the best condition possible? Just like a car company puts out an owner's manual to give the driver instructions on how to keep the car running in good and safe conditions; wouldnt it make sense for God to leave a manual? Do we get mad at the car company for telling us to use gas instead of milk?
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado Why do we assume that God's laws are there to control us instead of instructions to protect and save us? Please view this study and tell me who wouldn't want to know how to live longer? Please find the national geographic study on this
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado You seem to be twisting up a lot of principles here. I could try to answer each question individually but first explain how these questions are even relevant? Are you suggesting your religion has the answers? If so, then where is your evidence? Why should anyone believe your religion has the correct moral judgement over another? You must be able to see it is much better to base your believes on things which can be proven. Sure, our ideas of morality have changed, we've learned!
theduderabides 5 days ago
@theduderabides I'm addressing various problems with the conclusion some athiests and some evolutionists try to draw. I'm continuing with the subject and main theme of the discussion I was having with dakerson1234 (you replied to one of those points). I'm saying that if no one made us and we're all here just by chance (with no goal but to live as long as we can) then how can we try to tell people how to live at all. What right do any of us have to tell someone how to live?
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado I believe that if God did make us he has the right and the knowledge to give us the standard for living. If you don't believe that I don't try to force you to. I just share my faith with people and why I believe the way I do. I have studied the prophecies of the bible for myself and have seen the scriptures line up with history books to the very year it said an event would occur. I practice the health laws in the bible which have been shown to produce the longest living group
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado Now you're getting somewhere. You've touched upon one of the biggest critiques of religion. Religions tells people how they should live based on what some people claim God says, without any proof. I reject this notion. To the extent that our society should control individual behavior, it ought to be based on rational thought, not superstition. This is, for the most part, how the western world is run, by the way.
theduderabides 5 days ago
@theduderabides I believe that obeying the laws of the bible are beneficial to me. I don't keep them because I feel like I am being forced to. I have not read anything in the bible that has been proven to be false. However, I have seen NUMEROUS prophecies that have been fulfilled & noticed MAJOR benefits of health laws and the concepts it teaches about taking care of my community and the less fortunate. I dont like the way some people use religion but I dont blame God for that
tyrnado 5 days ago
We still have an issue with telling people how to live based on OUR rationale or the MASSES rationale. Everyone will never agree on everything. And society will still be telling people what to do based on something that is not PROVEN to be right? Because what will you define right to be? What will we define rational to be? How can that be measured or proven? What is your definition of rational or how should the entire world determine what is rational?
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado Your last few questions are all matters of debate, but it is demonstrable that we as a society can solve most of these questions. The laws of the western world have been written based on the emergence of rational thought which was the outcome of the enlightenment. Modern day democracy has provided us with arguably the most just civilization in the history of mankind. Is it perfect? Doubtful, but it is certainly better than past eras which relied on religious dogma.
theduderabides 5 days ago
we can give our opinions on these issues but these are things that can never be proven to be "universally just". It will always be arguable if everyone on earth can't agree on a standard of justice. At the same time we feel we have the most just civilization other countries think we are the most evil people who have ever lived. How can a world with two completely extreme versions of justice meet on a common ground & agree on a universal standard of justice?
tyrnado 5 days ago
the only way this will ever be possible is if there was a universal model of justice or a perfect judge. a thing or person who could define justice on a UNIVERSAL scale...Not limited by geography.
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado That is a great question. I had the answer I would do my best to share it! To complicate the issue more I would assume there are more than just two viewpoints here. But I can quite comfortably assume that resorting to religion to solve these problems would only take us backward. Do you believe that Christianity and Islam will ever be compatible? It seems much more likely to me that when the rest of the world accepts rational thought over superstition we will be closer to our goal.
theduderabides 5 days ago
@tyrnado Do you really want me to provide you with a list of things in the bible which have been proven false? I won't disagree that many of the moral concepts from the bible are also reasonable, but there are also plenty which are not - such as the idea that a woman should defer to a man, or that slavery is just. There are also plenty of reasonable moral concepts in Islam or Hinduism, etc. Just because there are some good ideas in the bible doesn't make it God's word.
theduderabides 5 days ago
Reading the bible in a cut and paste style will definitely leave a person scratching their heads. It happened to me and still happens to me at times. But every time it happens the more i keep reading the more it makes sense to me. Reading multiple verses on each subject & keeping certain verses in the context of the era they were written has continuously resulted in an increase of my faith instead of losing it like i imagined i would when faced with such questions (slaves, womens roles, etc..)
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado It sounds like your applying your own rationality to the bible in order to make it fit into your belief system.
theduderabides 5 days ago
no i'm applying the whole bible to itself and not just one or two verses. i test its consistency and tried to read every verse that is in the bible concerning a particular theme i have a question about. that is the way the bible says it was made to be read. "to compare line upon line, precept upon precept". a lot of people who read it dont study it in that way. they may read the whole thing but don't study it one theme at a time.
tyrnado 5 days ago
and a lot of people dont like the idea that they can't easily understand everything that the bible says about God and who he is and what he does. If you watch the video on here called "Erasing Hell by Francis Chan" it discusses the issue i'm touching on now.
tyrnado 5 days ago
@tyrnado Ideas not easily explained are fascinating to me, especially when proven true. You are simply basing your belief on faith. I choose to base my beliefs on facts - especially very important ones. Everything else I am comfortable with leaving unresolved. When it is necessary to make a decision based on incomplete information, I rely on sound rational judgement, not the claims of people who believe on faith. This is why I am particularly worried about Islamic regimes currently.

NicosMind 1 week ago
@NicosMind did you not hear when he said there is evidence to support a designer too but he doesn't think God would be a good candidate (because of his CHARACTER). Again, just like Darwin, Dawkins refuses to seriously consider studying science with the possibility of there being a God because he doesnt like his "CHARACTER". What kind of scientist are these. The same thing they accuse all religious groups of, manipulating people for personal gains, they're actually guilty of!
