  • @caliburn1 I completely agree, the snow is missing here though

  • Dat outro... Possibly the the greatest 2 mins in the history of music

  • dat acoustic part...

  • i think they wrote this song for A Song of Ice and Fire :)

  • Sure one of the best songs I know!

  • Agalloch is a unique band..... they are the example of bands that give music it's true meaning... wordsfeelings/stories by sound

  • @Vinterskugge006 very well put, a splash of emotion in sound

  • kocham to; uwielbiam słuchać głębokich, pięknych piosenek takie jak ta

po czwartej minucie zaczynam odlatywać ...

  • Agalloch'un çoğu parçası damardır,ama en damarı budur derim...

  • great pic....thanx uploader

  • my favourite song hands down

  • Probably my favorite song from Agalloch. I just can't get enough of this.

  • One day post metal shall rise!! :)

  • Wonderful music

  • sky fire above, ice below the hearth.

    7 words, thousands of tears

  • Jizzed out of my ears

  • Agalloch should be a religion :) I'm in ...

  • lmfao this good band from the us man wtf!!!!!! MY EARS LIKE FUCKING ORGASMED!!!

  • I got an allegorical boner from listening to this. Fantastic stuff.

  • just found out about this band 2day =D and glad i did xD

  • "There will never be an ode like this again." ...description of the song is in it's lyrics...though words are not enough...agalloch <3

  • just found out about this band yesterday from a friend..this is first song i have heard..and gotta say its pretty badass going out today to buy this album..thanks....oh..the picture of the forest is cool..reminds me of a OPETH album cover..

  • Would you post, please, in the description, a link to the picture?

  • @xxDoctorWhox This pic is very easy to find. Just Google 'Foggy Forest' and look in the images. It'll be among the first ones to show up.

  • @KSCIAA I love you! *hug* (in a non-gay way)

  • 8:13

  • 4:15

  • this is so good

  • Agalloch makes me so feel like a free bird.

  • the drums and the bass outro are just amazing, perfection exist

  • 3:55.....FUCKING AMAZING

  • Such awesome stuff. Can't believe I haven't listened to them earlier since I'm one of Don's students in his English class

  • Its amazing what sound waves can do to human emotion

  • that citadel at the end of time

  • It's funn that the guy who wrote this song thinks it's the worst on the album, yet I think it is the best.

  • This REALLY sounds like The Cranberries, something from No Need To Argue.

  • It just stopped raining and I'm introduced to this band, wow!

  • WHAT A GREAT SONG!!!!!!!

  • I don't understand how someone can not like this? I've used whole days listening to Agalloch and I will never regret one bit... I'm sad for those who do not understand this elite form of art :(

  • this goes right up there with Odal as the best songs ever made in history

  • So amazing I cried liquid mercury tears of joy.

  • Amazing

  • Is AATG a concept album? The lyrics 'fall away from me, to that citadel at the end of time', seems to be referring to the 'fortress' in Our Fortress Is Burning

  • @616TheBeast616 Also the following verse 'Where death sleeps and dreams of your buried pain' seems to hint at it's inevitable destruction.

  • Its one of the greatest band ever.

  • That last riff could last forever...

  • My blood dances to this song,

"There has never been a silence like this before, there will never be an ode like this again."

This song is a mirror in font of my heart.

  • 08:30 forward pure awesomness, entire song is!

  • Fall away from me

To that citadel at the end of time

    where death sleeps

and dreams of your buried pain.......I don't know how anyone could describe that, this song is so beautiful I can't cry, it transfixes me into an emotionless state, as if I could understand the universe.....haha...i'm so high....goddamn beautiful song...thank you ksciaa

  • So brilliant and refreshing. Unlike everything else out there.

  • Living in Sweden I want to see theese guys so bad, hopefully I get the chance if they come here, or I just simply need to travel to their upcoming gigs elsewhere. Just to see them once and I would die happy.

  • then come to USA...

  • does anyone know what he says in the Chorus?.. its my favorite line but I dont know what he says /:

  • @ThatKhaos Look in the description.

  • @KSCIAA hahaha x)

  • @keithblabbermouth i can see where you get that from.. the guitar riff.

  • @ApoalsoxD the only black about agalloch is the black vocals he uses

  • I don't know how many of you know Inuyasha the show, but this song makes me think very much of Kikyo.. wish they had not ended that show.

  • i have searching for a piece of music to listen to but instead i found a masterpiece that explains life

  • this is, amazing, retains the essence of black metal all while being the most beautiful thing i have ever heard.

  • @lildread1 is this black metal then?

  • I'm sorry I fell asleep....what were we talking about again?

  • the riff starting at 2:39.. is soul-mates with my soul.

  • for some reason i'm not feeling this song or this band. i guess i'm just not into the atmospheric stuff, i like powerful riffs. they are a talented and unique band though.

  • Makes me feel as if I'm in a beautiful place in nature, even before i saw this on youtube.

  • currently #1 on my CD wish list, far 'n wide. death-defyingly emotional album and fabulous musicianship.

hair stands all over my body.

    mightily appreciated, KSCIAA!

  • This song teases in a good way. It gets great at around 8:15 just when it starts building the climax. I agree with others it has a great outro and thats why you want to wait till the end to listen to it. The rest of the song kind of creates a good suspense and the transition is amazing. My favourite , from this album, is Not unlike the waves with Limbs as close second.

Great one pic video and all of agalloch songs are epic.

  • This band is... is...

    ...No words...

  • It lacks really strong melodies and I dont really care for those loopy guitar lines.

But the atmospheric parts in the middle are nice.

Still probably my least favourite from Ashes Against the Grain.....and Haughm's too apparently.

  • My opinion is the contrary of yours, I think it's one of the strongest songs on the whole album (my definite favourite next to Limbs). The outro is amongst the most beautiful things Agalloch ever put together (which are quite numerous anyway). My least favourite from the album is Our Fortress is Burning III, but hey, opinions are just opinions...

  • @Bornin58

Yeah I agree the Outro is pretty good!

Isnt it odd that this happens to be my least favourite next to Limbs (or actually its just the first parts of Limbs I dont like).

My favourite is probably "Not unlike the waves" next to "Bloodbirds".

And the the last part of the "Our Fortress is Burning trilogy" is actually pretty powerful Imo.

  • Sad to see your comment thumbed down like that, but that is just the way it works on Youtube I guess, when you state a constructive comment on your opinion of the songs... To me, your comment made me think of what songs and parts of Agalloch that I enjoyed the most. Thank you for your comment in any case, it is allways much more appreciated than all the fancomments ^^... One differing opinion is just as interesting as one of a million people. ^_^

  • Yeah I know! Thanks man.

Agalloch's music took alot of time to grow on me.

And it has grown on me in fast spurts the last weeks.

The whole Ashes Against the Grain album has a very bleak and frosty atmosphere.

Maybe the parts I didnt like because I thought they were dull or repetetive were supposed to be.

Maybe it was kind of the point.

Im liking them better then Opeth.

Instead of repeating riffs like they think they are main themes or something.

Agalloch's music has more direction and flow.

  • But, you would consider this better then, Our Fortress is Burning ... II-Bloodbirds?

  • @islespatrick

Dude, what's the point in comparing anyway? This album is EPIC. Even the songs I prefer the least are brilliant.

I love Agalloch's creativity. They never struggle to come out with a new album every 2 years or so - they take their time and hence never let us down.

  • @Bornin58 you didnt like falling snow?!

  • MAGEIA!!!!MAGIC MUSIC!!!

  • This is so beautiful I can't find no words...THANKS!!!

  • Beside Empyrium, Nocte Obducta is a very similar band, more like avant-garde black metal but also very good like Agalloch. Hope 2010 brings us their new album.

  • <3 insomnium

  • yea insomnium owns but i love this band too, im gonna buy the ashes against the grain album today.

  • takes u 2 another spectrum... thats all i can say

  • beautiful....

  • I need to buy cd's of this band.

What are the albums I should consider buying first?

  • @blackmagi2 get "Ashes Against The Grain" and "The Mantle"

  • Ashes Against the Grain

  • Real music.

  • Pretty much the only Metal band I listen to anymore.

After 20 years or so of extreme metal I am pretty tired of the stuff.

Agalloch however,I will always listen to.

    So damn good!!!

  • Consider listening to insomnium, if u didn't of course.

  • 300th rating.

Just got introduced to these guys this morning.

  • Congrats.

  • @HayabusaNoTsuchi Enjoy!

  • one solitary teardrop has just fallen from my left eye

  • @hellraidzor same here

  • I love this song...it make me forget all of the pain inside me. Can't stop hearing this here...

  • Makes me want to take an early morning walk through a cold, snowy, foggy forest. That would make me feel so happy. :)

  • Quanto li adoro....

  • Just discovered this. Nice!

  • negura bunget is a good romanian band. they make me proud to be romanian. and agalloch are coming into my town.can't wait to see them

  • you won't be disappointed! I just saw them and they put on one hell of a good show.

  • I gotta wonder how that is. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing, but I don't think their music is quite eventful enough for live shows.

    How does it work.

  • Well, for one. They are a lot heavier live, lots of head banging. But all in all it sounds just as good if not much better than the recordings. John and Don play very well together and take turns on lead and rhythm duty. Also John's vocals sound much better live, as does the drumming. When I saw them Aesop was on fire, he is one hell of a good drummer. And really they make it eventful, they put out a lot of energy and can really get a crowd to head bang and thrash around.

  • nice. I was always wondering how they would pull it off.

  • I agree. I would imagine this type of music is more effective on a personal level.

  • This guys are great!

  • KSCIAA du Sau ! Warum stellst du so gute Songs hier rein ? Könnte man ja glatt auf die Idee kommen die hättest guten Musikgeschmack xD

Spaß beseite, ich liebe diesen Song, danke für den Upload :) 5/5 *

  • 5:13 reminds me of tristram theme. good one never heard this band. i like drudkh.does anyone knows other bands of this genre ?

  • Yeah, check out "Negura Bunget" and of course Wolves in the throne room" or "Gris" especially their latest release- Il Etait une fôret

  • from Diablo?

  • I disagree wholeheartedly, to me its up there with the best on the album

  • Who the hell is writing this stuff! I think someone hacked my account! I've never even seen this vid!

  • stop getting high then so that you may remember better.

  • forest.... magic.

  • Love it! Thank you for sharing :)

  • What makes Ashes against the Grain better than the previous albums?

  • ...cazzo...i brividi!...

    beautiful song...

    kiss from italy...

  • 5:43, that acoustic guitar reminds me of October Falls, beautiful song

  • Very sad song...Agalloch is really good at writing sad songs

  • so cold..

    so pure..

    so sad..

  • Excellent.

  • I was looking for similar bands to Opeth because that was all I listened to for about 3 years straight, and then I found Agalloch and I'm so glad I did. Both bands are a lot different but you can still see some similarites between them. I fucking love them.

  • 2pac515 exactly the same here lol..

  • 2Pac??

  • sup nigga?

  • JAMMIN' THE FUCK OUT! wbu?

  • Try Ulver too, the first three albums fall into folk/black and have definitely influenced Agalloch.

    Listen to Bergtatt and Kveldssanger

  • Opeth has some good song im not gonna sit here and say i dislike them but Agalloch is truly a gift to this world.

  • i have a similar picture to this picture on this video hanging in a frame on my wall infront of me wow, and this has got to be one of my favourite songs by Agolloch thank you fro uploading =)

  • You are welcome.

  • Yes, I think they are (don't tell Mikael), but holy shit! "The Mantle" and "Ashes..." are so good they blow my fucking mind. It's the epitome of darkness and Light....It's where they meet...It's life in its most lively terms. Agalloch invigorates the soul!

  • Simply Amazing!!!! I got turned on to Agalloch thru Pandora (Opeth Station) They are at least as good as Opeth! ...And that is indeed saying a lot!!!!!!!!

  • Same here!

The first song I heard by them was "Not Unlike the Waves".

  • Mine was Bloodbirds: Our fortresss is Burning II - each are equally effective in opening your eyes to Agalloch, are they not?

  • Yes, indeed. Each song Agalloch makes brings something new to the table. I'd have fallen in love with Agalloch no matter which song by them was my first. The sad thing is that a band as talented as Agalloch is an acquired taste. The average person is not prepared for it. I found doom/death/black metal because I was looking for something more expressive than mainstream music. Even then, it took me several months to discover BM/DM.

  • they are better :D

  • like an athmospheric sound, love it, makes me fly away

  • Such soothing music...

  • Great song !!!

  • check out "the morningside- the trees" or the wind" if you love agalloch

  • Yay, one of my favourite songs from Ashes Against the Grain.

  • Life is Hag without Ag.

  • Incidentally, when I saw them play in London, they burnt Agallochum for incense. Made a nice change from the usual smell of sweat and blood in most concerts.

  • band*

  • wow this song made me relaxed :) i really like this bad go Agalloch!

  • Yeah i really stepted on the wrong foot this morning and i wanted to find this band for a friend and when i found it i had it playing in the background when i was downloading some stuff..didnt even notice how calm i got hehe :D

  • god where did agalloch find the inspiration to write such masterpiece?

the feeling i have when listening to this song is truly unique and inexplicable.

i believe that even the most narrowminded pop listener would not stay unaffected by such music..thanks ksciaa

  • No problem.

  • There has never been a silence like this before...There will never be an ode like this again

  • Eh, would anyone be able to tell me how you pronounce their name. i just found out about agalloch a couple days ago and think there amazing, but whenever i try and tell people about them i dont know if i do their name justice.

    please and thank you

    Cheers!

  • I read on some metal forum, "Ag-al-loch". supposedly its some type of wood that is burned for an aromatic smell, that i dont really care about as long as they keep creating this music.

  • Amen to that!

    Well thank you :)

  • @bleedinteal12 From Wiki, was checking out Agalloch.

Agarwood or Oodh (or just Agar) is a dark resinous heartwood that forms in Aquilaria trees when they become infected with a type of mold. Prior to infection, the heartwood is relatively light and pale coloured, however as the infection progresses, the tree produces a dark aromatic resin in response to the attack, which results in a very dense, dark, resin embedded heartwood.

Since "1995" it has been listed as potentially threatened species.

  • You know, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, I visited a riverside grassy area with my GF, it was quite nice. When I reflected on that day, I thought, "Wow, I REALLY need to find some music that conveys days like that."

I believe Ive found the band. Hail Agalloch!

  • Just remmembered the first time I've heard Agalloch, it was a recommendation in progarchives and I'm truly thankful of bands that created this kind of music, just like the first time I listened to Songs of Moor and Misty Fields. Now I am listening to Agrypnie, it's good to heard bands with this pation and creativity like Agalloch and Sculptured.

  • I'll have to agree with the others. I'm a huge Opeth fan, but I'm also an Agalloch fan. Haughm's vocals are perfect for this style of music. Death vocals don't suit this sort of post-rock atmosphere as much as black metal vox do.

  • While Mikael is great, he clearly doesn't suit the band's style.

  • I have to support this band. Very incredible stuff.

  • Well, the music is very emotionally captivating anyway. I think the ethereal, indifferent style of vocals help compliment the instrumentation. Like a balance.

  • one hell of a band, so far away from the emo bullshit what a nice breath of fresh air.

  • Impossibly moving and beautiful. Agalloch is one of the absolute best bands to ever come out of the United States.

  • I wouldn't mind if the full track were uploaded...I'm eager to check out this album after starting with The Mantle.

  • The only thing left of this track was the sound of crashing waves.

  • You should check out all of their albums, truly. They are all very different, but equally beautiful and powerful. It just depends which style you're in the mood for. Personally, I love Pale Folklore and AATG more than The Mantle, but that's just me. The White EP is also amazing. Their EPs are very different compared to their albums if you are interested in those as well.

  • I've heard both Ashes and Mantle (Mantle is so far my favorite), and I'm waiting for a good time to hear Folklore.

  • oh man, agalloch is sick. I'm not too terribly into the vocalist's screaming, but his lyrics are brilliant.

  • I love Agalloch fans because they generally know what they are talking about. This music is to beautiful for words. This band has helps many bad times for me, i absolutely love them.

  • right. :)

  • very good :)

  • Lot Hardcore Agalloch fans here.

I like this song, so relaxing to listen to when doing math in class

  • thats just because anyone can get a connection to them if he or she wants to.

  • Yeah I'm doing psychology revision to it.

Nice to relax to keeps me from totally stressing out about exams!

  • :):)
