Knuckles in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles are modified versions of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 accordingly.

These versions with Knuckles can be accessed by using a Sonic and Knuckles cartridge with a Sonic 2 or Sonic 3 cartridge or through emulation on a compilation game.

Knuckles can not be normally accessed Sonic 2 due to not being programmed into the game and is disabled in Sonic 3 because the game was split into two parts during development (the second part being Sonic & Knuckles).

lol they always port these games but this collection on ds is really awesome I was playing sonic 2 at a doctors appointment xD They really should make a collection with the saturn games and lesser known ones also knuckles chaotix should be there and sonic adventure 1 and 2 a 3d game collection would pwn Im sure a ps3 or when they decide to do it... a ps4 could do it seeing as how much data GT5 packed in

Wow....the camera issues are REALLY noticeable after you defeat the boss. I'm still on the fence about this game. I'm kinda in a love/hate relationship with it. I like the fact that my favorite Sonic games are portable on one cartridge but I hate all the little problems that are just annoying.

@Sega8891 Yeah, the camera is pretty annoying, but you get used to it after a while. It only really messes with gameplay in some of the Sonic 2 bosses. I beat all the games on this cartridge, and it didn't really bother me that much, but your milage may vary.

If you're worried about framerate, I should mention that the recording method I used cut the framerate some, so it is SLIGHTLY better on an actual DS, especially in other levels. If you've got a DSi, it actually runs smooth as silk.

@norulzdotpt Yeah. It's a lot harder when the game is going really choppy. The special stages in particular are really bad in this, at least if you're not playing on a DSi (the whole collection is smoother on a DSi).

@norulzdotpt Sort of, but it's not really usable. This version is actually just an emulator with some slightly edited ROMs. Debug mode is still present on the rom, but the way it's set up, there's no way to access or use it.

...Is the sound even emulated or is the DS just playing low-quality sound files when things happen?

If so, then there has not been a single official compilation game to my knowledge that actually attempts to sound like the Genesis did.

@MilesDude32 Nope, it's sound files. As I understand it, they don't emulate the sound because that would strain the system more, and it's laggy enough already.

This video doesn't show it, but speed boots don't just speed up the sound in this version, but make it higher pitched, as a result of streaming audio instead of emulating it.

Knuckles is awesome but it seems like they don't use him for any sonic games no more.

While the concept of being able to play the only good Sonic games in existence on my DS is appealing, I'd rather just pirate it than shell out cash. Why? Well, I bought all the original Genesis versions when they were current, AND I bought the PS2 Sonic Collection.

So as much as I love these games, I'm not buying them for a third time. >.>

Well I'm glad they released this for the kids who don't know the original games. But I wish they'd help you get more into the time era these games were released.  I wish the game also included a Genesis-sonic history video or something, as well as trailers for old Sonic commercials.

@gamefreak561 Well, I don't own Sonic classic collection or a DS; the lack of a second controller would imply you can't control tails on a DS but I don't know for sure. On a regular Mega drive you just control Tails with the second controller.

@gamefreak561 In the Genesis/Mega Drive version the AI or second controller can control Tails, but in the DS version the only way to control him at all is to play as Tails. Sorry, that's the only way you're gonna fly.

Sort of. You can't pause with the start button, only by pausing the emulation with the pause button on the touch screen. So once you activate it and get the ring sound, you've gotta run out of lives to get back to the title screen. Then you can has debug mode.
