I can see how James Hettfield can play rhythm guitar like Dave, but Malcom Young's style is nowhere near Dave's, or any metal guitarist. I think Dave made a bit of an overstatement comparing himself to AC/DC. He may have been influenced by them, but I hear almost zero musical similarities between the two bands. Their not even of the same genre. If I would compare Mustaine's rhythm playing to anyone, it would be Tommy T. Baron of Coroner and Marc Biederman of Blind Illusion.

I disagree, those particular events that happened in Norway only involved about 3 bands and those are Mayhem, Burzum, and Emporer which I believe are still great bands. However if you look into the lyrics I don't think you will find many references to such topics. I think you should take back the generalization that they are "crazy assholes", there are many amazing new black metal bands today that aren't associated with those 3 bands that gave black metal a bad name.

The media only highlights the really extreme bands who do ridiculous things but they don't show you the hard working musicians that make an honest living playing the music rather than pulling off stupid stunts for the media. "Dead", is the nickname of Mayhem's first lead singer. He blew his brains out with a shotgun, leaving behind a suicide note apologizing about shooting a firearm indoors and also saying "excuse all the blood". "Euronymous" the old guitarist, came home to see Dead, dead on the floor, took a picture of it, and it was used for a bootleg album released later on.

Euronymous the old guitarist was stabbed to death several years later by Varg Vikernes, of band "Burzum".

@HOBO8O8 You should not reject awhole genre just be that. Check out Darkthrone and Rotting Christ. The Darkthrone guys seem to be really nice, especially Fenriz. About Rotting Christ, I haven't seen any video of them fooling around, but I've read interviws of their frontman, Sakis Tolis and he seems to be just a regular guy. Also a great sub genre of black and thrash is black thrash metal (duh!). Deströyer 666 is badass (don't let the name fool you)! There's a lot of great black metal.
