Not exactly, it's ancient swedish, a much older version of the language today. If you know swedish well enough it's not that difficult to figure out what the words mean though, when I translate an Arckanum text I usualy get everything but 2 or 3 words which I found no equalent for in modern swedish, they must have fallen away in time and been replaced by words loaned from other languages.
Was directed towards the people who were discussing whether it was called Asatru or Asatro. I mean, I think all the scandinavian languages say Asatro.
Oh, I didn't notice. Well, I'm swedish and we say "Asatro", and if you really must know just go to wikipedia and click on Norwegian/Danish/Swedish to find out what it's called in their respective languages. To save everyone the time and effort I've done just that; the danes say "Asetro", the norwegians "Åsatru", we swedes "Asatro" and on Iceland (though they're not part of scandinavia, they are related culturally and linguistically) "Ásatrú". The finns call it "Aasainusko".
Also I think it should be noted that the name arose in Iceland, so I guess Ásatrú is the original way of saying it, and when it Arose in America, it was at juuust about the same time as in Iceland, but since we don't have the characters that Icelanders use, you can see why it's called "Asatru" in american....

First of all: Icelandic is NOT Similar to old Swedish. Old swedish differs much from icelandic.
The iclandic language is based on ancient norweigan.
Most of the time old swedish text don't use
the iclandic characters.
And you have to know that in diffrent parts of the north they hade their own languages based on the mother language.
Modern example of the smae thing:
Scanian swedish: Kompersten
Norweigan: Kamperstein
Dansih: kæmpesten

Not exactly, it's ancient swedish, a much older version of the language today. If you know swedish well enough it's not that difficult to figure out what the words mean though, when I translate an Arckanum text I usualy get everything but 2 or 3 words which I found no equalent for in modern swedish, they must have fallen away in time and been replaced by words loaned from other languages.

Oh, I didn't notice. Well, I'm swedish and we say "Asatro", and if you really must know just go to wikipedia and click on Norwegian/Danish/Swedish to find out what it's called in their respective languages. To save everyone the time and effort I've done just that; the danes say "Asetro", the norwegians "Åsatru", we swedes "Asatro" and on Iceland (though they're not part of scandinavia, they are related culturally and linguistically) "Ásatrú". The finns call it "Aasainusko".

And in America it's called Asatru.
Also I think it should be noted that the name arose in Iceland, so I guess Ásatrú is the original way of saying it, and when it Arose in America, it was at juuust about the same time as in Iceland, but since we don't have the characters that Icelanders use, you can see why it's called "Asatru" in american....
Maybe that clears it up even more?

A whole page of arguing about the spelling and history of the word Asatru? Get a life. Why argue about something so ancient? it was so long ago nobody can know it completely. Be glad other people share your enthusiasm for Nordic history. i'm glad it's now Easter, end of Lent. i gave up metal (except nu metal) 40 days. i've been listening to NSYNC, Zug Izland, & Alan Jackson, and i'm glad to hear something heavy. Yes, i'm Catholic. No, i don't know Nordic history. i just like metal music.
