Too bad, I speak fluently Danish with my original accent! Secondly, based on the research, someone will have some country accent if only they moved in to that country before the age of 12 y.o. After that age you wont have their accent.

I don't know how long she had been in Denmark when this was taped, but the Danish accent is overtaking her Australian accent rather quickly. I lived in the UK for 3 years and it was at the 2 year mark where I noticed a little English accent replacing my Canadian one, just with certain words or phrases. There is something about her that doesn't fit - hard to explain.

She had been taking intensive lessons in Danish and the sentence structuring is quite different to English so switching between languages can be a bit tricky when being interviewed. Also, I think she was really nervous so was trying to choose her words carefully.

I don't know how long she had been in Denmark when this was taped, but the Danish accent is overtaking her Australian accent rather quickly. I lived in the UK for 3 years and it was at the 2 year mark where I noticed a little English accent replacing my Canadian one, just with certain words or phrases. There is something about her that doesn't fit - hard to explain.

she has always struck me as hypocritical and false, when it is obvious that she loves fashion for personal pleasure and indulgence, and buys tons of extravagant foreign brands, she tries hard to make the argument in public that she is supporting Danish economy and its fashion industry, and how admirable and selfless she is by doing so.

It covers staff and his personal expenditure. 10% of that is allowance for Mary of $320,405.27USD per year. So how extravagant is this exactly? There was a deficit from 2004 of $167K due to the wedding but Frederick has paid it back. They will likely go overbudget for rennovations due to her ever expanding family and making it more homely to comply with their needs and their children.

The people are paying them to represent them out in the world and in public at all times.
And why do you seem to think that Mary is the only member of the CPs house? Frederick, Queen Margaret are the ones who have the final say in things.

And there's no way Mary was the one who decided to do the extreme renovations. It's a palace of the Royal Family of Denmark and owned by the government. The Queen will always have the final say on what major rennovations are appropriate. If what your quoting is true(highly doubt it) then it was not Mary's decision but the HM Queen Margaret herself. @astridbelge I am Australian as well, I don't think her accent was contrived or high class. She had been taking intensive lessons in Danish and the sentence structuring is quite different to English so switching between languages can be a bit tricky when being interviewed. Also, I think she was really nervous so was trying to choose her words carefully.

Well it was ages since it was on the news but, i think (and don't quote me on this), i remember hearing that he came to the cafe she worked at, she basically fell in love with him at first sight but didn't know he was a prince, which made him love her even more because he knew she loved him regardless of being wealthy etc. And basically that's all i remember. Again, it's been ages since i saw that on the news so don't quote me anyone. =)

Mary isn't, or rather wasn't particularyly articulate, but I guess that's understandable since she was new to the limelight at the time. Her Aussie accentl isn't as harsh as Aussie neingbor in Chicago, a guy, and he's married to a Dutch woman, she has a much more pleasant sounding speech than he does.

Martiandoll, I think that if Joachim has a pretty great english accent it makes him more articulate than his brother "in english" yes, but it does not necessarily mean that it makes him much more intelligent, because Frederik is no dummie and anyone who has heard at least one of his speeches translated in english would realize how articulate he actually is.

Are you all blind not to see that this girl was totally scared? You can see the panic in her eyes at 1:38 she almost couldn't speak.
And why do you make a fuss about her accent? It sounds lovely, classy even if it doesn't sound aussie for you. What is aussiness with accent? Mary's parents were born and raised in Scotland, her dad feels more Scot than Aussie. She was in total immersion with the danish language and accent at the time, and a barely audible little switch was to be expected.

let's see you present yourself to your new country for approval & then we'll see how clearly you are speaking! the woman was marrying the future king - in a country that loves their royal family. as the future queen, she had a lot on her shoulders... and she wasn't groomed for this life growing up. when you're born royal, it's what you expect & are prepared for... this girl was a regular "commoner" until she fell in love with him. plenty of reason to stumble over words!

Yeah, her accent has definitely been affected by learning danish, coz it;s a whole new world to learn a new language for an adult. when i was living with my german friends, and picked up a lot of german from them via osmosis, it seems i picked up a german accent too and my background is chinese. how strange.
