@hectoratom You're right! This is 2001. But "Let Michael pass for the Championship" happened three times in Austria alone! In 2002, 2001 (here in this video) and in 1998 (see below for the video)!
@Dennis17891 OK ,let's make this clear. This was definitively in 2001,the race was won by Coulthard and Schumacher came second passing Barrichello in the last lap.In 2002 Schumacher passed Barrichello in the last centimetres for the victory, but there isn't any footage of Todt telling Barrichello to let Michael pass in 2002.Nobody knew there was going to be a change of places until it happened.

At times I kinda feel Eddie is. But it is true that when he used team orders they were legal. And When Massa was told to let Alonso through they were not legal.
I personally ave mixed feelings in regards to team orders. From the perspective of the team they make sense. Its more efficient. Helps you win championships.
But from a fans point of view. It can be a let down. Im not trying to sound difficult on purpose. Its just a complex issue in my opinion.
@f1matt you're totally right. Team orders exist for something, very useful for team tactics but it's bad in the moral point of view of racing. I'm a Raikkonenfan and Alonsofan (when Kimi left F1). I remember Kimi letting Massa pass in China 2008 and I was allright with it cuz it's normal. But as an Alonsofan I was ashamed of what happened at the German GP 2010. I felt so sorry for Massa and I still do. As long as the name Santander is on the Ferrari's, Massa doesn't stand a chance vs Alonso
@ASSHOLELA This year the only one real team order was given by Red Bull... Now it seems, it was clearly good for Red Bull... What are your thoughts now? Jean Todt is addicted on energy drink? This is ridiculous!!!!!
M Schumaher he cant do shit without a good car, point proven in 2011 F1 :) theres nothing like godlike driving to him, he allways just had the better car at his hands for his wons
if you ask me, Vettel who won the last championship, is deffynetly not better driver than Michael Shoemaker, but becose of better car you win races. and thats how i feel why Shoemaker made the wins in the first place
Only Driver who could win Schumaher with worse car, was Mika Häkkinen
@epicwarding and don't forget that schumacher won a lot of times at the pit stops... and I was angry with fate when hakkinen was first and his car broke down (I don't remember what race was) and schumacher pass him
But at the minute bet came into Formula we have seen many "strange" things
@sadoxra Spain 2001. Schumacher had a problem and was happy to let hakkinen go and felt his pain. Hakkinen pulled off half way round as Schumacher started the last lap. It was cruel for Mika that day and as a Schumi fan even I had to concede that Schumacher should have presented Hakkinen with the trophy specially because he admitted he didnt deserve it. That is what Schumacher's ledgendary status makes him brilliant. He admitted in the end at times he wasnt always worthy..
@epicwarding There is no F1 champion without a good F1 car... It's a technical sport... Every world champion had good cars. Not the best, but good enough... Schumi won championship with inferior cars a couple of times, too... And it is very stupid thing to compare today's Schumi with Schumi in his prime... He was much better, just think about for example '96 !
As shocking as to read the "comment" from MegaMrdamo,hmm...more like MegaMrdum-ass,(see above) and 26 just like him. I can guess they´ll let anyone to do wherever just by saying please.
Renault was the worst team of the sport ever to order Nelson Piquet crash on purpose in Singapore 2009, Alonso didn't deserve the win at all, Briatore should be banned for eternity.
Even if this win is not counted Schumacher still have 90 wins from his own skills.
If both your drivers are capable of winning than let them go, you want them in your team to begin with because they can win.
Being told to hold positions would bring the red mist down.
Fans don't want to see team politics and money men running the show, fans don't want to see cars slowing down, and let's face it the fans are ultimately the ones paying the bills.
i know everybody is going to hate my but i thing they diondt did anything wrong with doing this becauzse if they know that one driver is better than the other but that one nneds to get out of the way for him at some point or they cloud lose championship
People like to quarrel about: "When did that happen?" So, if you look (0:00) David Coulthard is in front, he is leading, look it up in wikipedia, in 2001 Coulthard won the race, in 2002 Schumacher! All of you have right, because Rubens had to let Schumacher both times (2001,2020)
And there's something that people like to forget: If Montoya would not crash with Michael, Michael would have won easily! Todts action was understandable! For me sure! But the situation in 2002... That's another questio
Yes, that was 2001, and poeple forgot that Schumi would have easily won this GP if Montoya didn't brake like crazy earlier on the race, which spoil Michael's race.
Barrichello had the chance to win it, he didn't so he gave the 2nd place back to Schumi, but the result should have been : 1. Schumi 2. Coulthard 3. Barrichello.
I stopped watching F1 after this shit...I started watching it again in 07 when Raikkonen & Hamilton had a feud...but now they are bringing this same shit back to F1. gotta stop watching again. this sport has the most ridiculous head organization...FIA that is
@LocoGroove it was complete bullshit, i stopped watching when they boycotted the race at indy, i was there, if you ever seen the video there was a bottle thrown on the track and the comentator said it was the worst showing of sportsmanship ever on international television, im not lying to you thsat was my uncle, rubens ran over it i think
@LocoGroove uhhm i cant rememer,i was pretty young but i always went with my uncles and dads to indy at to mid ohio and watkins glen for the rolex races also, but it wasnt too long ago, it made me mad and i dont really watch it much anymore, i was excited to be at that race man haha
@itdrewledonu ah yeah i remember it now. damn i miss the good old days of formula, back when all the formulas were almost the same. that's when driving skills was the biggest reason for winning championships, not the hi-tech stuff they have now.
@LocoGroove yeah i mean i was really young and still i never watch now its lame, plus they pulled out of the u.s. which mabye they had their reasons but they had fans here too, ill probly never go to another race
@OTKSenior Yup, but situations like this would still be punished. Isn't it nice to have the same man that ruined the sporrt at this little movie is now the big boss of FIA (sarcasm) Bernie and Jean, what a team
Low life motherfucker and corrupt bitch, how can this man become a FIA PRESIDENT ? so glad ferrari lost the championship ! 100,000 dollar fine for ferrari,if it was red bull he would have given a million dollar fine + taking points off ! corrupt bastard
In 2002 the Ferrari had the Vodafone brand on their cars for the first time. And here you cannot see any Vodafone brand so it's definitely 2001. hectoratom is absolutely right m8.
@pispianglada Yes thats exactly what I am saying, teamates used to actually fight each other and where often the most competetive drivers. All this kind of crap has become too common and has ruined what was once a great sport.
@Esk1zo Still, team orders are bullshit. forcing the faster man to move over and let the team mate take the win is just plain unfair, and it ruins racing.
@TheCarlsonsRaiders If you were BAR, you would the same, it's a whole team (700 people) working a whole year for the championship. And it was said in BAR's contract to accept any order from Todt. Ferrari paid him to help Michael, not to win races. Remember what Alonso said a few years ago (2004 I think): "I do not consider F1 as a sport anymore, it's pure bussiness".
@f1matt where's the competitive nature of motor racing? team orders is cheap and boring to watch in F1 it was a joke the Masa had to yield to Alonso, you could tell from massas face that he didn't want to..
@4evainter I didnt say its a positive for the sport. though in my opinion it does sometimes makes sense. just said its almost always been a part of the sport. the further back you go, the more it was used.
does it sometimes detract from the racing? yes. but we cant forget its a team sport too. and its always been a team sport. team orders have played a part in grand prix racing since almost the very beginning.
@f1matt i understand your point but it's not always like that, ferrari might take the easy option but red bull and christian horner don't, he said himself he wants his two drivers RACING each other all the way through a grand prix, and that's the key word 'racing' team orders is the opposite of that and for me degrades the sport, just ask Eddie Jordan.
@4evainter EJ is against team orders. but when they were legal we all know he used them. And even Christian Horner told Mark Webber to hold his position for the last two laps of the 2011 British Grand Prix. And that is a team order. Though to be honest I liked how Mark ignored his team and chose to race Vettel right to the end. It can degrade the sprot as you say. I would have liked it if Massa won last years German Grand Prix. He deserved it.
@f1matt so you think Eddie is being a hypocrite? saying one thing on television but doing another on the pit wall? mark webber certainly has the right attitude as he doesn't want to be seen as the 'no.2 driver' as massa has become at ferrari, i'm a Mclaren fan and although my favourite driver is Hamilton i wouldn't want Jenson button pulling over just to give him the lead, it just doesn't feel right or honorable to take the win, it's a shame its part of F1 in my opinion.
@srp1462 If anything he should've been extra harsh on Ferrari, to show that he doesn't favor them, at the WMSC meeting about the illegal teamorders at Hockhenheim. But instead they were let off the hook and Todt said there weren't enough evidence. How come they were fined $100,000 if there were no evidence?
@Rosvolainen He orchestrated the whole reason why team orders were banned; it's such delicious irony that a decade later he is again at the center of this controversy.
I was and am still shocked by these orders, I get it that the championship is important, but this really hurt Ruben, he's a good guy
It's much like last week with Massa, if I was Massa, I'd let Alonso pass and in the very next corner, forget to brake .. Fuck it, this was MY race to win (I would say)
The FIA should disqualify Alonso from the next race, just to make a point !
( I like Massa, he's a nice guy too, just like Rubens and I hope they both win some more races (Rubens fist :D ) )
This is the president of the FIA World Motor Sports Council, which has to decide if Ferrari will face further sanctions due to the team orders in Germany.
@LordAlton 2002 6th race Austria, remain 11th races. Schumacher goes for the champion and barrichello too, but ferrari choosed schumacher. Do you believe alonso have more hopes than massa now. NO my answer because red bull is the best car now. I support barrichello
You guys are a bunch of hypocrites, crying about the "corrupt" Jean Todt being FIA president it's freaking ridiculous. What's the point in having teams in F1 if they can't work together as a team? Bullshit.
OMG!!! I didn't realise it was Jean Todt that actually gave the order for Rubens to let Micheal past! It's just DISGRACEFUL that this guy is now president of the FIA! How can he possibly be impartial???
So what's the problem? If these points would have mattered in the end, everyone would have agreed. After all, this is one team. If you don't like it, then there can only be one driver for one team. At that time, it was not illegal, in contrast to what Ferrari pulled off yesterday.
though this gay i think not is wrong with it if the championship is needed badly and wat alonso did that sure it might be gay or wat but u gotta care about the championship and the team 1st
F1 has clearly learnt nothing the fans deserve to see fair racing and we are cheated out of it by Ferrari and the F1 cheifs again do nothing what a JOKE
I know we live in an imperfect world but when you have sport where Man United get given penalties and Ferrari are above the law, what have you got? A heap of shit thats what, I might just watch motorbike racing after this, I feel f1 has insulted my intelligence.
and that's the freaking new FIA president? by the way, his allowing Hamilton doing whatever he wants or needs during this season..... and they don't want Briatore, why? he does what everybody does..... politics against the sprot!!!!
Michael Schumacher was supposed to win this race anyway before Montoya ran him off the road. So there's nothing to complain about here. Barrichello won 0 races in 2001 anyway.
i cant believe in my years of watching f1 as a sport that is widely popular and generally accepted, jean todt will do something like this = a disgrace to F1.
@MrHumerousify to ferrari! not to f1 please. I am And always will be f1 and david coulthard (mclaren) fan and i'm not blaming mclaren sauber or any other team for this! Just fucking schumacher and ferrari for their way of doing f1 races!

If I was Barichello, I would have told them to fuck off, and then won the race despite their bullshit orders.

@TheCarlsonsRaiders if he did that, he'd been fired inmediately and fined with a large amount of money.
Esk1zo 1 year ago
@Esk1zo Still, team orders are bullshit. forcing the faster man to move over and let the team mate take the win is just plain unfair, and it ruins racing.
TheCarlsonsRaiders 1 year ago
@TheCarlsonsRaiders If you were BAR, you would the same, it's a whole team (700 people) working a whole year for the championship. And it was said in BAR's contract to accept any order from Todt. Ferrari paid him to help Michael, not to win races. Remember what Alonso said a few years ago (2004 I think): "I do not consider F1 as a sport anymore, it's pure bussiness".

4evainter 1 year ago 8
@4evainter except team orders isnt cheating. its just a part of f1
f1matt 6 months ago
@f1matt where's the competitive nature of motor racing? team orders is cheap and boring to watch in F1 it was a joke the Masa had to yield to Alonso, you could tell from massas face that he didn't want to..
4evainter 6 months ago
@4evainter I didnt say its a positive for the sport. though in my opinion it does sometimes makes sense. just said its almost always been a part of the sport. the further back you go, the more it was used.
does it sometimes detract from the racing? yes. but we cant forget its a team sport too. and its always been a team sport. team orders have played a part in grand prix racing since almost the very beginning.
but yeah. sometimes i wish they wouldnt.
f1matt 6 months ago
@f1matt i understand your point but it's not always like that, ferrari might take the easy option but red bull and christian horner don't, he said himself he wants his two drivers RACING each other all the way through a grand prix, and that's the key word 'racing' team orders is the opposite of that and for me degrades the sport, just ask Eddie Jordan.
4evainter 6 months ago
@4evainter EJ is against team orders. but when they were legal we all know he used them. And even Christian Horner told Mark Webber to hold his position for the last two laps of the 2011 British Grand Prix. And that is a team order. Though to be honest I liked how Mark ignored his team and chose to race Vettel right to the end. It can degrade the sprot as you say. I would have liked it if Massa won last years German Grand Prix. He deserved it.
f1matt 6 months ago
@f1matt so you think Eddie is being a hypocrite? saying one thing on television but doing another on the pit wall? mark webber certainly has the right attitude as he doesn't want to be seen as the 'no.2 driver' as massa has become at ferrari, i'm a Mclaren fan and although my favourite driver is Hamilton i wouldn't want Jenson button pulling over just to give him the lead, it just doesn't feel right or honorable to take the win, it's a shame its part of F1 in my opinion.

todt is now FIA president. what a fucking joke.
srp1462 1 year ago 4
@srp1462 If anything he should've been extra harsh on Ferrari, to show that he doesn't favor them, at the WMSC meeting about the illegal teamorders at Hockhenheim. But instead they were let off the hook and Todt said there weren't enough evidence. How come they were fined $100,000 if there were no evidence?
Rosvolainen 1 year ago 2
@Rosvolainen He orchestrated the whole reason why team orders were banned; it's such delicious irony that a decade later he is again at the center of this controversy.

Rubens had no other option in this situation sence it reads in his contract that he has to obay team orders.
But i admit that team orders aren't fair. They should just let drivers race about victory and no team orders at all.

I don't think they will get any sanctions -.-"

fernando alonso is a disgrace. he cannot win without being the number one driver.
no wonder he left mclaren and sold the team out because ron dennis would not give him number one position.
What a disgrace.
the spanish fascist cunts and bastards can go and make their own car and give it to alonso.
Opps the spanish idiots cannot build F1 cars hahaha
nitel10 1 year ago
So what's the problem? If these points would have mattered in the end, everyone would have agreed. After all, this is one team. If you don't like it, then there can only be one driver for one team. At that time, it was not illegal, in contrast to what Ferrari pulled off yesterday.
