  • Look at hitters who have absolutely no snap in their wrists as they bring the bat through the strike zone... such hitters look like they're dragging a heavy club through the strike zone as opposed to swinging it through the strike zone. Hitters who drag the bat through the strike zone are the ones who fail to load their swings properly.

Baseball is full of bad coaching and empty-headed nobodies who think they know what they're talking about (and some of the people here fit this description).

  • @ChainGang, you also need to learn about the art of hitting a baseball. Hitters like DiMaggio and Molitor do load their swings; like I said in a previous post, they do it in a much more subtle way than most hitters. The act of loading isn't in just the hands; it's all about the coordination between your hands, your back foot, your explosive rotation through the hip and driving your hands through the strike zone quickly. Only a fool thinks "loading" is dragging the bat back a few feet.

  • Look at Bryce Harper, for instance. While Harper does have an explosive swing, he uses a lot of wasted motion in transferring that weight forward. If he is going to swing like that in his MLB career, then he better be very good at pitch recognition at the plate. If he is below average at pitch recognition, then he will have many strikeouts to go along with those home runs he will hit.

  • Kingcoach, no... you do NOT eliminate the loading up entirely. Doing so would result in too many GIDPs. Even DiMaggio loaded up his swings; however, he did it in a much more subtle manner than most hitters. As I said earlier, it's all about weight transfer. DiMaggio did not have a long sweeping swing; however, he still put 100% of his weight into his swings. He loaded up his swings in a subtle way while the struggling hitters are those who exaggerate their movements in the process.

  • Even guys who look like they are not moving back at all (Pujols, Bonds, Griffey, etc.) in fact are "going negative" and "going positive" when they swing. The best hitters - contact or power - are masters of weight transfer. The instructor in this video is right about the concept of weight transfer; hitters just need to learn to execute it and time it properly.

Say whatever you want about the steroid accusations, but Bonds late in his career had a great swing. It was compact and explosive.

  • @DuggerSports well said!the smartest thing he did was get on top of the plate & let the ball come to him.he narrowed his range of chances, didn't chase bad pitches, since he was perfectly located to hit any pitch in the K zone,he didn't need to do much except keep his hands in & rip.the simple mechanics along with superior strength did the rest.simpler is easier,& better.that's where many players kill themselves late to the ball.all ya gotta do is be lined up correctly, rip it

  • Anybody complaining about this video needs to learn baseball. The instructor is right that you will generate more power by loading up your swing. The loading up of the swing is not the problem that kills hitters; what kills hitters is poor execution and timing. Many hitters who are late on fastballs simply load up their swings at the wrong times (too late). As the pitcher is about to release the ball, you should be fully prepared to go forward with your momentum and bash the ball.

  • @DuggerSports by your own admission,it's difficult to execute the timing properly.so instead of making it more difficult for yourself, why not keep it as simple as possible & eliminate it entirely? smells to me like that would have a better end result. after all,it's not required. watch molitor,di maggio.they were stock still, went rightstraightatit.the simpler you keep it,the less chance of getting it wrong..right?

  • you would get more power with less negative movement and more hip drive

  • ...and then unload

  • from the moment the ball comes out of the pitcher's hand..ANYTHING & EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU MUST GO RIGHT STRAIGHT AT THE BALL!! YOU DON'T HAVE TIME FOR TRIGGER MOTIONS! THIS KILLS MORE HITTERS THAN ANYTHING! KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. you're looking for the most direct & violent collision possible.that means forget dancin' or drawing back. watch joe dimaggio,WHAM!! RIGHTSTRAIGHATIT. the less your strength, or athletic ability, the more pitches you will be late to.NO ONE is good enough to load up

  • He hit nothing but grounders

  • man over the years im hearing stride 1st no negative movements while others like yourselves say negative movement 1st. i feel much more comfortable and hit best when i stride forward while loading my arms back at the same time. when i bring my whole body back like explained i feel as though i lose a little balance, power, and path to the ball. feels like it take an extra second or 2 which is alot. but everyone is a bit different

  • @08WSChamps learn to figure it out for yourself.1st of all you have no concept of the time involved.@90mph, the ball takes only .40 (that's four tenths) of a second to get to the plate.if you use half of that to make a decision, that leaves only .20 (two tenths) to get the bat to the ball ON TIME.this is why so many are so late to the ball: YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO GO BACKWARDS BEFORE YOU GO FORWARD.EVERYTHING MUST GO RIGHT STRAIGHT AT THE BALL.start with your arms back, then FIRE.

  • @kingcoach13 damn chill man i never said you were wrong, just some things work better for certain people, and i honestly made a bit of a mistake, as i took some bp recently the very 1st thing i noticed myself do was bring my arms back just a bit (is that what you meant by the negative) just a bit and then stride towards the mound. I guess i am somewhat doin what you're explaining, idk what i was thinkin before man, so its a slight negative movement which is turned into the positive as you stride

  • @08WSChamps there is no wrong or right, only the most logical way to maximize batspeed.it's not a negotiation.think in terms of whether an action makes you bat faster. if so, use it.if no, lose it.individual style & preference,"everyone has their own way" is what kills waytoomany players.what makes your bat go fastest is what is going to make you better.the rest, of no importance.realize what is important, forget subjective individual style.BATSPEED makes you best.once you get it..

  • @kingcoach13 You're an idiot bro. The load, or negative movement, isn't part of that two tenths. Not that I'm saying this guy in the video knows what he's talking about, cause his whole "power-L" thing after the swing is finished is completely wrong. Anyway, the load as he says, is practically before the pitcher throws the ball. You're supposed to load while you're in that first two tenths of making up your mind, or even earlier.

  • @ChainGang220 many players load AFTER pitch release,=late to the ball.point: loading is unnecessary & mostly makes you late.common myth: you need to load.NOT.once the pitch comes out of the pitcher's hand,if EVERYTHING goes FORWARD at the ball.you eliminate extraneous unneccesary windup & load motions, your bat get quicker.that's the prime objective:maximize batspeed so you catch up to pitches you are now late to.patch your biggest slowup, get to more pitches on time.hitting=timing

  • @ChainGang220 this idiot challenges mainstream batting theory, because the mlb ba has slid from .267 in 2000 to .257 last year.ask yourself why? players are bigger faster stronger, have better exercise/nutritional/video info/tools to work with, yet they're worse.logical conclusion:information being given by coaches is bad.argue this:when you get bad results, you're doing something wrong.so figure out why you're not maximizing your performance, coaches today fail their players

  • @ChainGang220 where is it written you're supposed to load?youtube joe dimaggio, paul molitor, kirby puckett, many hof'ers had no load.it's not necessary,& it causes more problems than it solves.KISS.keep it simple stupid.the whole endeavor is complicated enough without adding extra moving parts to the mix.the simpler you make it,the better your chances.addition by subtraction, losing things that slow your bat to the ball will make you faster to the ball. make sense? of course it does

  • @kingcoach13 If you're telling me Joe Dimaggio doesn't load I'm done arguing with you. You know nothing about baseball, and also you're comparing statistics that have no comparison. There are so many variables that affect batting average that cause the decrease you're talking about.

  • @ChainGang220 look at the vids,buddy.youtube joe dimaggio+slow+motion+swing.mov very little movement pre-pitch release..wham!look at paul molitor.NO movement whatsoever.the point:loading ain't necessary!go to baseball mechanics_hank+aaron swing.in bp,he winds up.but in hank aaron tribute,game conditions,minimal loading

  • @ChainGang220 watch joltin+joe+dimagio.mp4. there ain't no damn movement whatsoever..just wham!!if you look at this clip, & tell me he's loading, i am done arguing with YOU.

  • @kingcoach13 He does load. Dimaggio moves his hands back at least 3 inches. That's a load. Good game, bro.

  • @ChainGang220 1st of all,it's bp.just 3 f---in' inches.in the game clips, NONE WHATSOEVER. he's so fast to the ball, i defy you to find any windup or load whatsoever.smells to me like you like pissing contests about nothing.fact:loading & windup at the amateur or minor league level is self-defeating.it's strictly for the strongest of the strong, which you ain't dimaggio.hopefully, you'll get smarter as you get older.otherwise, you'll be in the ground before you figure it out.

  • @kingcoach13 It's not a bp clip? Watch game clips of Dimaggio. He loads those three inches. Three inches is a load whether you like it or not. Everybody in the major league level has some sort of load. Period. If you want to argue that major leaguers don't have the most efficient swings, take that up with Albert Pujols and let me know how far that gets you.

  • @ChainGang220 here's how idiotic most coaches are:open or closed stance?1/2f say open 1/2 say closed.since they both can't be the best way, logical conclusion:1/2 all coaches ARE WRONG on just this one aspect of hitting.those who say everyone's different, has their own style, not important as prime objective:maximizing batspeed.subjective style/preference,the thing that kills so many players because so many arbitrary actions defy laws of logic/physics.ask yourself why you do things

  • @08WSChamps negative movement is self-sabotaging.think about it.you go back then forth.all in less than .40 of a second.you lessen the chance of arriving on time.also smells to me like you're not identifying & using the source of your greatest power:the biggest bone & biggest muscle on that bone:your back leg/hip. crouch slightly, straighten your leg, drive forward, generate greatest body mass at the ball.let your stronger lower 1/2 torque your arms/shoulders to the ball.keep hands in

  • the one on the open field sucked cause they kept filming the talker and not the batter making it difficult to learn the drill
