Looking back, I gotta defend the Klitschkos from all the people who criticize them today for fighting in a weak division... those guys would have knocked out everyone that Tyson knocked out when he was champ in the 80s. Klitschkos would have dominated that period too... except for Tyson himself. Just watching Tyson box, he was incredible, and maybe unbeatable in his prime. He would have beaten both of the Klitschko brothers.
@TheLondonrish: GTFO of here, Tyson was like 40 and on drugs when he lost against McBride, you Tyson haters always amaze me with your stupidity and ignorance. How would you like it if I took Ali's asswhooping at the hands of Berbick and shoved it in your face everyday? Hmm? Oh btw Tyson owned Berbick's ass in 2 rounds you shithead.
Tyson looking good against a bum, imagine ... Remind me, how'd he do against Buster Douglas, Holyfield, Lewis, Williams, McBride?? Lol Most over rated fighter ever, YES he hit hard and was explosive - but you cannot just knock out Tomato cans to be considered great!
@TheLondonIrish if you're just going to just be a dick whats the point of watching videos of mike and wow he lost a few fights and Holyfield was consistantly headbutting but was never punished in both fights. Also just think would mike have lost later on if Cus hadnt died? No Cus managed to make Tyson one of the kindest boxers ever known, he would help opponents up after knocking them down and he would check if they were ok.
@TheWeaverBeaver24 He would have kept tyson's defensive first posture alive! That was tysons demise starting in 1989.even at 24 ys old,not utilizing the deifensive first posture, all bets are off, with it,all bets are on including against ali.
@TheLondonIrish It was a catch 22 with tysons career, when he utilized the defensive first posture, and training 12 weeks for fights every 3 months, this gave him an incredible elusivness not seen since ali.His style was unique but when he abandoned the training to maintain this defensive first posture,he lost his elusiveness.this started in 1989 vs bruno,a guy the 1988 tyson would beat in 3 rounds without getting hit once. The 89 version was flat and done with defensive posture.
@TheLondonIrish So we can only say in hindsight, could he have beaten ali, lewis, holy and douglas and bowe and holmes on his best night? I believe only young foreman could stop That classic 21 yr old tyson around the time he ko'd holmes was his best.Holmes was rusty but prepared to fight a smart fight but couldnt do anything with tyson's elusiveness,He said this guy is an amazing awkward style and hard to hit""shavers hit like a mack truck but tyson hits like a speeding ferrari"
@MetherFeckerrrr And so what? Floyd Paterson was only a few months older at 21, when he was World Heavyweight Champion. It means nothing, judgemtn of your career as a whole is what makes you average, good or great - and Tyson was not a great champion.
aahh.. i dont know why still people message me about tyson, because i said he was a very very good boxer one of the best, people say he was far away from beeing the best...
@KravaLLT tyson was one of the greatest boxer in history. He is a legend.Heavyweight champion of the world. What u done in your live? You can be only champion of the chicken yard.
@romanszczawinski He's not even in the top 50 of greats and I'll be great at something else so you can stick that thumb back to your ass and jerk off to his pictures faggot
@montebosss 005 373 5963 or 007 373 5963 straight to Tyson. I believe it's the former, with a nice 0-2 record. If my memory is correct I believe 248 410 7138 takes you to Super Macho Man w/a record of 34-0-34KOs. Every time u beat Super Macho Man you would get a New key and could build your record to how many ever wins you wanted. I don't know if you could have went above 99 wins. There didn't appear to be a 3rd digit for any column. This was 19 years ago, I could be wrong.
Tyson would have been undoubtedly the greatest boxer in the history if he never started being managed by Don "bitch mother fucker" King. If D'Amato lived a few more years no one would have touched him.
@Thebuttsinferno Wrong. If more fighters had stood up to him and fought him without the excessive fear, Tyson would have been beaten long before Buster Douglas KO'd him. The Cus D'Amato legend is way overblown.
what's with Tyson and this Smith?? Mike seems to really dislike him,i mean really REALLY dislike him!!as you can see straight away Mike is the more gifted boxer of the two...never let's his guard down always moving and jumping and dodging blows..instead of Smith, running around as a sissy school girl worldchampion unworthy!!
Look how Tyson moved back then... HE stopped moving like that after Cus died and his personal life went down... He was just never the same... Mentally he needed Cus to keep him on track...
@funkyflights Cus died since 1985, when it happened Tyson was only about 14 fights into his pro career. This is 1987. Tyson only got better since Cus passed away.
Cus was the guy who took Tyson under his wing... His hunger was to win the title for Cus.... Once Cus died Tyson did win the title but as you witnessed he fell off track soon after.... Cus was his father figure that he deeply respected
boncrusher did really well against a prime Tyson, absolutely nothing wrong with boncrusher in that fight, but he was older and Tyson was amazing i ma big fan of Tyson, I cant lie.
@globalplayer1988 - exactly right. 10 years later, he disqualified Henry Akinwande for doing the same thing to Lennox Lewis. I wonder if this godawful fight was in the back of his mind?
@MrCaptainSr79 Seriously. I know the uploader probably had a time limit but I'm more than willing to watch a second video to see the whole fight. The skipping sucked.
Mike Tyson here was past his prime. His peak was age 19, in September 1985: the Donnie Long fight. He was never that big, that strong & that fast again. Spinks & Holmes were his most famous opponents, but he wasn't as great against those fighters (even though those fights ended early too).
I cant help but notice that this was a tiny fucking ring, organizers must have hoped that these men will find each other quick and just waste no time in doing battle. Smith had no room to work the distance and was forced to grab. Any larger ring - TOKIO! Tyson nuthuggers - fuck y'all...
the hatred and the disrespect of the people made him to the best fighter on the world..
he had noone no parents nothing at all... the hatred to the world gave him this amazing power to write history... he showed the world you dont need to be the son of a Rich motherfucker just to be famous... he showed us all that if you really really want it, you can do anything doesnt matter from which ghetto you come out... he will never be forgotten as the best boxer on the history of the world!!!
@nightride18 At first I thought you were talking about Tyson, but then you said "best boxier on the history of the world". So what are you talking about? Ali? Louis? Or the 10 or 11 other heavyweights that were better than Tyson.
@Sammince123 Clearly I do, because my opinion is grounded in reality. You want to just look at numbers on paper? That shows that you are clueless when it comes to boxing. Also, every major boxing expert in the country agrees with me.
@nightride18 Oh please, he was raised by middle class white people. What a fantasy world you tyson fans create. You really think Tyson's the only black man who's had it tough? You ever look at the lives of other boxers?
@akaROKNROLLA i know bro that what i wanted to mean is, the fighting style of tyson was impregnable he was ferocious.. he was an aggressive offensive fighter thats why i said best boxer... and i know what ali did, ali didnt only fight but he changed the world with his mouth, he changed the life of the black community he is SUCH A LEGEND!..
ALI... Nickname: THE GREATEST..!! u dont get such a name if ur not really the greatest
@nightride18 Actually you described almost every athlete in the past 30 years. There wasn't much special about Mike Tyson even when he came up. His demons, which I think are largely the result of the death of his trainer and mentor Cus D'amato, will always leave us with what-ifs regarding his career.
Tyson is a coward!!! He is hiding on the oponents chest like a baby! And then he throws elbows, at least 3 times in this video! What a coward! He should have been disqualified.
@tomisu2 A coward chooses not to fight, a coward is a person who chooses to do things to their advantage so the other has no chance, etc. etc. to call a boxer a coward is like calling a man with a thousand kids a faggot.
Bonecrusher smith was one of the very few fighters to go the distance during tysons early bruising days. I'm talking like few before Tyson went to jail.
Lmao i hate Bonecrusher smith so much. What an asshole he runs all night doesnt throw nothing then once its the end of the fight he decides to let his hands go with 10 seconds to go. lol
1:40 Look at Tyson's defense. He misses the jab but is just out of the way and didn't pay for it with that beautiful slip. I sometimes feel like the commentators miss everything.
Mike's demise was the loss of D'Amato and Kevin Rooney. With them in his corner managing his career and keeping his nose clean outside of the ring Mike was indestructible and easily one of THE most menacing forces in boxing! When they were gone, he got lost in a world of fame, paranoia and surrounded by people taking advantage of him.
@justentime77 You've summed it up very well . Mike Tyson didn't go off the rails he was born on the skids . Rooney and Damato were his family . When they were gone he just lost it big time and went in to self-destruct mode. Must have been heart-breaking for Rooney to watch him sink so low . Tyson was an awesome fighter , one of the greats and no-one can ever take that away from him . Awesome fighting skills.
@supercool126 They said that he was undefeated and had 26 ko's at the beginning of this vid right? So he should have been pretty good already... Altough I didn't really see that in this fight
just look at the tyson vs.holyfield fight, it was more like a wrestling match. Ali won against foreman that way too, so don't discredit smith for holding when he's fighting one of the hardest punchers of all time.
Respond to this video... So lets be clear on this, tyson was boxing........James was holding.....so why did he put on gloves if he wanted to hold tyson close to his body. He should have just asked Tyson on a date lol
@ah93704 I actually covered his last fight in 1999 against Larry Holmes in their rematch. It was the main event of a PPV card called Legends of Boxing. Also on that card was Tim Witherspoon vs Grag Page in their rematch. Although all of the above were past their primes the bouts were very competitive. I also stand by what I said about wishing those kind of fighters were in today's Heavyweight division.
@ah93704 My apologies for the typo. I tend to type fast so that happens from time to time. I do cover Boxing and also MMA. I must've had a bad day in regard to typos. I normally work late nights and sometimes you do make errors especially when you've likely been working many hours. I'm only human. I do not however believe it is called for to insult people. Once again apologies for the typo. I do however stand by my comments about Smith.
A lot of people didn't give Smith the credit he was due because he had beat Witherspoon for the title on short notice in 86 and then didn't perform well in this fight. I think it was a bad style match but, a lot of men who were quite skilled for scared of Tyson in his prime. Smith was a good fighter though. Many hours spent studying fighters like Smith. The 80s were a great era for the Heavyweight division. I cover fights as a writer wishes the division were still this stacked with talent.
@bvd1022 If you cover fights as a boxing writer why is it that you can barely form a decent sentence? You seriously sound like a C student in the 5th grade!
Im sick and tired of these bitch ass tyson fan boys including the 1980's media who claim Bonecrusher held throughout, thats clear bullshit, Tyson was initiating most of the holds by diving his head in and tying up when he couldn't get good punches in. Thats the story with all his fights after Cus and Rooney left. he no longer boxed but was heading hunting with bombs
@Gyro911 That's true but you CAN'T deny that Crusher wasn't doing a good holding himself... you NEED TO HOLD to fight a style of Mike Tyson. Jab, Uppercuts, and tying him up is how you can destroy Tyson. Thing is... Tyson had a great prime for any heavweights career. Tyson haters are always gonna deny him this and will always say he fought nothing but bums and they were ALL AFRAID of him.
@BoxingPride Tyson will be great for being a dynamic HW with middle weight reflexes but, he quickly burned himself out fighting that way. Whats funny is that his fame came from fighting bums every month during his title run where he KO'd 19 bums in a year but ,his title wins were dull fights (this one and Tucker) with the exception of Berbick who was coked out anyway for that one. Spinks was a smaller undersized HW then Tyson and everyone over hyped that win.
@gmac2rulez22 hard to tell that, because we never saw the three best years of Ali's prime. They say he would've destroyed anybody they put in his way if he hadn't been in trouble over the draft.
even though tysons ducks to work, he must of dodged over 30 in this clip but he has his hands near his eye brow which leaves a huge gap for the mongolian to upper cut him, but he obviously couldnt adpated to that or realise that he does it all the time, in modern day now people would be all over that repetativeness, all in all good fight .. love u tyson <3

1:40 Look at Tyson's defense. He misses the jab but is just out of the way and didn't pay for it with that beautiful slip. I sometimes feel like the commentators miss everything.
RGdood 4 months ago
@RGdood I know exactly what you mean.

7 = Jab. 1:16 = immaculate. Watch and listen to the communication between Kevin Rooney (trainer) and Mike. Lightning fast ingenious system.

Mike's demise was the loss of D'Amato and Kevin Rooney. With them in his corner managing his career and keeping his nose clean outside of the ring Mike was indestructible and easily one of THE most menacing forces in boxing! When they were gone, he got lost in a world of fame, paranoia and surrounded by people taking advantage of him.
justentime77 4 months ago 2
@justentime77 You've summed it up very well . Mike Tyson didn't go off the rails he was born on the skids . Rooney and Damato were his family . When they were gone he just lost it big time and went in to self-destruct mode. Must have been heart-breaking for Rooney to watch him sink so low . Tyson was an awesome fighter , one of the greats and no-one can ever take that away from him . Awesome fighting skills.

Damn, Smith's defence is great

you could see in the begginning, Smith knew he was bout to get DESTROYED lol.

This was when Mike Tyson was not quite at the his very "peak", this was a more older clip until he got really good.
supercool126 4 months ago
@supercool126 They said that he was undefeated and had 26 ko's at the beginning of this vid right? So he should have been pretty good already... Altough I didn't really see that in this fight

I knew the title was BULLSHIT! There was nothing legendary about this particular fight. Tyson was still on the rise to the top.

just look at the tyson vs.holyfield fight, it was more like a wrestling match. Ali won against foreman that way too, so don't discredit smith for holding when he's fighting one of the hardest punchers of all time.
Godhand156 2 months ago
Smith did manage to duck that right hand at 3:15 which would have found him outside of the fuckin stadium.

Respond to this video... So lets be clear on this, tyson was boxing........James was holding.....so why did he put on gloves if he wanted to hold tyson close to his body. He should have just asked Tyson on a date lol

Again sorry for the typo my friend.
bvd1022 6 months ago
@ah93704 I actually covered his last fight in 1999 against Larry Holmes in their rematch. It was the main event of a PPV card called Legends of Boxing. Also on that card was Tim Witherspoon vs Grag Page in their rematch. Although all of the above were past their primes the bouts were very competitive. I also stand by what I said about wishing those kind of fighters were in today's Heavyweight division.
bvd1022 6 months ago
@ah93704 My apologies for the typo. I tend to type fast so that happens from time to time. I do cover Boxing and also MMA. I must've had a bad day in regard to typos. I normally work late nights and sometimes you do make errors especially when you've likely been working many hours. I'm only human. I do not however believe it is called for to insult people. Once again apologies for the typo. I do however stand by my comments about Smith.
bvd1022 6 months ago
A lot of people didn't give Smith the credit he was due because he had beat Witherspoon for the title on short notice in 86 and then didn't perform well in this fight. I think it was a bad style match but, a lot of men who were quite skilled for scared of Tyson in his prime. Smith was a good fighter though. Many hours spent studying fighters like Smith. The 80s were a great era for the Heavyweight division. I cover fights as a writer wishes the division were still this stacked with talent.
bvd1022 6 months ago
@bvd1022 If you cover fights as a boxing writer why is it that you can barely form a decent sentence? You seriously sound like a C student in the 5th grade!

Im sick and tired of these bitch ass tyson fan boys including the 1980's media who claim Bonecrusher held throughout, thats clear bullshit, Tyson was initiating most of the holds by diving his head in and tying up when he couldn't get good punches in. Thats the story with all his fights after Cus and Rooney left. he no longer boxed but was heading hunting with bombs
Gyro911 8 months ago
@Gyro911 That's true but you CAN'T deny that Crusher wasn't doing a good holding himself... you NEED TO HOLD to fight a style of Mike Tyson. Jab, Uppercuts, and tying him up is how you can destroy Tyson. Thing is... Tyson had a great prime for any heavweights career. Tyson haters are always gonna deny him this and will always say he fought nothing but bums and they were ALL AFRAID of him.
Give the guy his props

@BoxingPride Tyson will be great for being a dynamic HW with middle weight reflexes but, he quickly burned himself out fighting that way. Whats funny is that his fame came from fighting bums every month during his title run where he KO'd 19 bums in a year but ,his title wins were dull fights (this one and Tucker) with the exception of Berbick who was coked out anyway for that one. Spinks was a smaller undersized HW then Tyson and everyone over hyped that win.

gmac2rulez22 9 months ago 2
@gmac2rulez22 hard to tell that, because we never saw the three best years of Ali's prime. They say he would've destroyed anybody they put in his way if he hadn't been in trouble over the draft.
Treebot1 8 months ago
even though tysons ducks to work, he must of dodged over 30 in this clip but he has his hands near his eye brow which leaves a huge gap for the mongolian to upper cut him, but he obviously couldnt adpated to that or realise that he does it all the time, in modern day now people would be all over that repetativeness, all in all good fight .. love u tyson <3
