I thought I was doing the right thing when I joined the Marines, the uniform, the traveling, the excitment of training and learning things. And whn you have to put your skills to use it changes you in ways you can't even imagine. Looking through that rifle scope and seeing first hand what one human can do to another...I started to hate what I had become. A bringer of death. very now and then I see those images in my sleep.
Many of thought we were doing the right thing and its not our fault for that. When you grow up trusting it natural to believe what you are told. It is the hatred of self that can end and be seen as thank God you are a human that cares.
What trauma has in common are thoughts that self-defeat.
Healing comes when we hear a different beat.

I loved your poem. it has been awhile since I had a good cry. It hurts me to see fellow marines in so much pain.
