  • It was not a spring floor. The sound comes from the fact that it is on a raised platform. I asked a "76" competitor if it was a good floor mat and his response was that it was as hard as a rock. Spring floors didn't hit the scene until the worlds in "79" at Fort Worth.

  • First guy to do the one in a half twisting one in 3/4.And the floor had no springs not until 1980 then only 1 inch springs. He just got inducted into USA Hall of fame (Guard Youngs Dad).

  • Yes, they did have spring floors. You can hear it if you turn the volume up. However, the springs back then were only 1 inch as opposed to the 6 inch springs we use today.

  • I agree, they are original and stylish.....why was he wearing pommel pants ? Not too sure if they had spring floors either ....

  • Oh I love retro gymnastics - not the most difficult tricks but so stylish. I loved his pike arabian punch fly spring. Did they have sprung floors in those days? 'Cos if they didn't, damn his first pass must've hurt .... no?
