These are very nice tractors. Every machine has its strengths and weaknesses. They will not pull as much as a Tigercat or CAT on slick surfaces because they are lighter (physics). Still they will burn less fuel and they are cheaper to purchase and maintain. So from a business perspective which is better? Deere has a decisive edge in financing, service and support and cost of ownership (up front and long term). Deere is much more affordable than CAT on parts and service and just as good.
When Deere bought out the Timberjack line in 2002, the 660D had an 8.1 deere dumped into it, now deere is using 6.8 engines which are alot weaker and dont get the hours the 8.1 does. As for the claims of 525 Cat cable taking a 848H, someones needs to evaluate what kinda work your doing. pulling 10 good ones is great if you can but who wants to set chokers on a pile of small pulp day in day out.
@425timbco ,,, lemme tell ya something pal ,, we logged in hard wood ,, not the toothpicks you see here ,,, we had a cable 525 Cat ,,, it didn't come to the landing without 10 trees hooked to it ,,, they tram slow ,, but they'll pull like hell ,,, so thats why we loaded it so heavy ,,, if its slow , let it pull a big load ,, and it did , no sweat
@levisnteeshirt Now days we go for production. You can pull a little bit smaller drag faster with a john deere...the fuel consumption in the cat is way greater then a john deere.....I ran a 2004 648G3 in an all adverse strip and the most I ever burnt was 35 gallons and we would pull 10 loads a day
i run a john deer 748H in alberta , i dont really like it , the hydraulics are slow and i dont like the steering , i like to run our older skidder the 748G , it seemz faster to me. i ran a 848H one time , i like it ,lotta pulling power .
we run a 2010 648H less then 900hrs warrior tractor the deere dealership at home is coming out to put new push rods valves and some other things the engine has a recall we have replaced the ECU, transmission controll, and it has alot of codes that pop up daily has not been the best machine we have had
my father works for a logging company that has a 648 with grapple. something is constantly breaking on it almost on a weekly basis. you're gonna have wear and tear. It seems to have a lot of electrical gremlins.
NICE work and machine.

as a experianced skidder operator the driver coulda saved some rubber and effort spinning over the stump at 1:23 by locking up the differentals
bordstif84 1 year ago
