I... despise... modern... wushu.... it takes away the martial spirit and the whole damn meaning of Gong Fu.... it's not even a martial art anymore, it's just a sport.
@AndyRaslan Allowing other people to see something practiced they might not ordinarily (admittedly in its most theatrical and impractical way) DEFINITELY takes away from martial arts, rite
It's diminished in general by shit like MMA because of the way it's promoted. People doing theatrical spins and flips in a competition doesn't diminish anything. And it's not a sport unless you're doing it in competitions, which not everyone does. I don't get what you're talking about.
@AndyRaslan what exactly do you hate about modern wushu? it cannot ever become "just a sport". competitons like that promote alot of good things. if people only learn forms for the sake of sport then its gonna be their ass on the line should they need to defend themselves. and once theyre dead the others live on. the problem solves itself, dont be such a downer

Wushu is a beautiful and extremely complex dance form. It's not a martial art, although it emulates one. It does not teach proper defensive/offensive reaction to spontaneous attack. It teaches controlled and intricate movement in a planned routine. These are incredible athletes. They may not be martial artists, but that is not a bad thing. They are fantastic dancers, incredible athletes, and very intelligent to become so.
you have to realize that wushu is the reason that all chinese martial arts survived.
you also have to realize that through the intense training...(6 hours a day is what i did) that these athletes are also martial artists in every way. i have only studied wushu for 10 years and i am not a master yet but i can defend myself in any fight i have been in
hm. okay. ever heard of sanda? it's also part of wushu, just as tai chi is. i admit, this is different from traditional wushu, and is a little bit more showy, but nonetheless it still is an extremely difficult martial art. much harder than any tae kwon do or aikido practice -.-'' these people dedicate their lives to this 'martial art' its more than a martial art. its also their way of life.
good job overall! good choice of music and good flik. its more of an art then it is martial nowadays but its still very cool to see! kind of like capoiera...
I wouldn't assume a wushu competitor doesn't know how to use the techniques they are using in their forms. The thing is, most people don't need to use martial arts for self defense anymore so it becomes more for just fun and exercise... and some prefer not to have to learn how to use the techniques. I'm not the best wushu athlete, but I pride myself on learning the techniques as well as the pretty moves. I'd hate to just look pretty but not be able to kick ass.
That was gutter, I loved it. I would of used 'harder' music, but this works (although you just reminded me that Houston gauged his eye out years ago in attempt at suicide).
It's pretty, but please don't forget that wushu is more of a dance than a martial art. There is nothing to fear in wushu women, they are just fantasticly powerful dancers. This is not bad, it's just please don't misconstrue.
I don't think it was meant to imply that women who practice wushu are to be feared, but respected. If you're dumb enough to try to take advantage of a wushu woman, then you pretty much deserve what you're going to get. =D
no, you are wrong... lots of the are also learning aplications.... and in the "fight" i think what one needs is to be fast and also to be very accurate in movements... dui lian in not just a show.../ok, in these times it is/ but i think it is just practice... i think that some of them could kick your ass pretty good :D:D:D:D:D:D
There are no applications to wushu. Wushu was a propaganda tool used by Mao. wushu was designed for athletics, agility and grace.
It was meant to be closer to gymnastics/dance than to a martial arts.
Today more people are learning how their dance moves were taken from kungfu and how the original movements were meant to injure, but lets not pretend there was any martial arts heritage to _wushu_
yes i know there is a lot of people also in china who are just "dancing"
but the word itself "wushu" means martial art, and it is not one style it is a name for chinese martial art group, consists from many chinese martial arts
About the Mao, i think youre right in som way,i think it depends on how do people train. for example my teacher is chinese and he study wushu from 5 years, he won many competitions.but he also learned som style to use in real situations but also learned only forms from some styles, so you cannot say when you see someone doing just form that he cannot do anything else.

Wushu actually mean "martial art" in Chinese and goes back hundreds of years. Kung Fu is just the temr that has become popular for it in Western culture. The moves in performance Wushu come from fighting techniques although are not useful for actual fighting. However, wushu encompasses many styles, San Da is a very effective fighting style.
no, theres actually a great deal of combat basis in wushu. The amount and type of training needed to acaquire the type of precision, agility and strength needed to perform these routines is the same as its combat equivalent. Plus most of the stances and strikes performed are also still combat based.
The difference, and the propaganda you talk about, is simply the application...in this case they put up estheticly focused shows rather than duels to the death (as in older times).
Wh Shu has little to do with Mao. It was around thousands of years prior. Modern Wu Shu is a different story. It is applicable when used correctly. It's not just about learning the movements.
Jet Li himself says he practices wushu. Thanks to misconception of westerners, people think he does kungfu-i think he cleared up that misunderstanding in one of his interviews
wushu is kung fu. Kung fu just means "learned skill"... he may have meant that he's a modern wushu practitioner, being a former member of the Beijing Wushu Team.. but wushu is kung fu...
is there a way to get a copy of the whole video, if there is one. Can I buy this from somewhere or no? If someone can let me know that would be great. Thank you
nice video. I like that too
