  • Thank you so much!! I've been hunting for a stand mixer that won't cost hundreds of dollars. But if we're only mixing for 2 minutes who needs a stand mixer!!

  • so the recipe is 7 and a half oz of oil to 16 oz plus the 2 tsp of glycerin and preservative?

how about a thicker cream for face . how much is the preservatives anyway?

i just made my own homemade cream -and im in psychic shock! it was the worst thing ever!

i dont want to spend a lot of money for something that will end up horrible.

my cream looks gray, the water and oil didnt bind right -then the clean up was a nightmare. it costed me less to just go to the 99cents store.

  • Dear Maggie,

    Thanks for your comments.

You can certainly add more water to thin out a lotion or cream. Many "lotion sprays" are made this way. If you make a spray, remember to purchase misters with larger orficies that will accomodate the viscosity of the lotion.

  • Can this be put on my hair? I have thick dry hair or are there some changes I would have to make.

  • Dear Dee,

You can certainly use this lotion as a hair conditioner, though I would add 1/8 ounce of silk protein and 1/2 teaspoon of wheat protein to the water phase.

  • where can i get gylcerin and preservatives?

  • This is a great video. I've been looking for directions to begin making lotion because of such sensitive skin. I had one question, I like a lighter facial lotion, wondered if I use this video for making my body lotion, can I alter it to make it thinner for my face by adding in more water? Thanks so much for the great info and video!

  • How much E wax did you use to emulsify your product?

  • Sorry about that. I just saw the instructions.

  • so for the first lotion, you put one teaspoon of the preservative. does that mean for the second one, you put one teaspoon of alcohol?

if i was gonna use a different preservative, do i use about a teaspoon as well?

  • Not all preservatives are alike. You can certainly use a different preservative than the one we used, but you will need to get the manufacturer's use rate to determine howmuch to use. You should also find out from the manufacturer if the preservative will work in a pH of about 4-5.

As for the alcohol: we recommend that you use at least 10% of your lotion's total batch weight to preserve. So, if you were making 100 oz. of lotion, you would use 10 oz. of alcohol.

  • Hi can polysorbate 20 go into the oil phase?

  • Poly 20 can go in either the oil or water phase: it has molecular roots in both phases. It is not called for in our Cocoa Butter Lotion recipe, though.

  • Thanks=)

  • The lotion turned out great! I used Germaben II, as my preservative. I had asked people to pick out of 4 completely different recipes that I made that day. All unscented and packaged the same. This one got great reviews. Good job! I sure wish you guys were closer so I could visit your shop.

  • Thanks for the good word! Enjoy the recipe.

  • Good info! Fun recipe. I think I will try this one out today, but with a different preservative. Great job!

  • Thanks! Let us know how it goes.
