I really, REALLY can't quite understand why SOOO many people are under the delusion that what we have is "free market capitalism".... If the U.S. or Europe actually had a true free market, there would have never been any bailouts. Seriously, where is the disconnect in people's brains? People please be aware that some of these so called protesters are very racist towards black people being there. My friends and I went in to the information tent to give support and show solidarity; there was one long haired white woman and another white man on a laptop computer. They both were very rude towards us asking if we spoke English and if we were refugees?
They interrogated us as if they were government security agents. All non whites please be aware all is not as it seems.

A value shift away from individualism and materialism, towards open, free access to most things rather than wasteful ownership and multiplicity of goods. Important decisions would be arrived at through the scientific method rather than made based on opinion. It is not a political movement.

If the system changes it ll be because the elites want it too , and it ll be to there advantage . They have preeped you with sustainability , carbon footprint ect for year fully knowing they want the herd into a new system . Laws & regulations are established and create barriers of entry into the market (License/Min Wages/Taxes). Those w/ money can cope w/ these obstacles. A value shift away from individualism and materialism, towards open, free access to most things rather than wasteful ownership and multiplicity of goods. Important decisions would be arrived at through the scientific method rather than made based on opinion. It is not a political movement.
You could watch Zeitgeist: Moving Forward for more information, and/or check the TZM website if you want.

So (this is just a question and id like to get an actual answer im not trying to argue) whats the alternative to freemarket capitalism? plato wrote of a republic in which the leaders of the nation had no material goods - but that was a utopia. His philosophy was interpreted as a valid political system and introduced as communism - we all know how that ended.
Also, I honestly dont know what the solution should be but i doubt there will ever be a better version for a system for the free market.

@BigLittleAdventure yes i agree but how is the free market to blame? i grew up in a country that was communistic for a period of time (even during my life) and the free market was only introduced 20 years ago. if youre suggesting that the free market is inhuman then i will suggest to try living without the free market - communism (it was in the begining introduced as a humanistic version of governing). the free market is to me honouring peoples right to freedom.

Competition is a good thing as it encourages innovation and thus better products etc. There is nothing wrong with this system if the free market is allowed to function without government intervention. I am not sure these two things are necessarily compatible, this is the fulcrum on which most political debate pivots - liberty v social justice (freedom v "every bodies [sic] needs are met").

Oh no, this anti-'free market' capitalism thing is somewhat misguided. Free market capitalism has not truly existed for some time. If the protesters knew the difference between what we have now and a true free market then intelligent action could be taken. The opposite of a free market would be state controlled, which is closer to what we have now than to a free market. Best of luck ti all, I'm in support of occupations, I just wish the people were hacking at the root rather than the branches
