While it's true that the terrorist groups thrived off US aid, at the time it was worth it to contain the Soviets. Oddly, the US and Russia are united to fight them in the new century.
The US must have smiled with great pleasure when the soviets were defeated in the Afghan war, they planted/funded/trained and directly helped the creation of a force that has become an anal cancer for itself (Taliban) now they have dug themselves deeper with losing a close ally like Pakistan, which is falling to the hands of the very people they so much loved in those days and Called the Mujahideen, the very Mujahideen regrouped to form Taliban and even then recieved US funding.

before 9/11 US never tried even to think how we were suffering.They just provided pakistan millions of dollars to kill indians and afghan people.We were very much shocked when taliban attacked US but it was awsome lesson for US.US govt said why USSR was with guns to bring peace in afghanistan.To fight with terrorists gandhism is not enough.US is in afghan soil with guns not with rose.I know today or tomorrow US will attack iran with some lame excuse to acquire oil fields like they did in iraq

You do not take into account the amount of oil bought and manufactured by the United states. the U.S. has oil in the Gulf of Mexico, and along the coast, also in Texas. We also have Alaska's.

I am an indian.Though i am not a communist but in some cases i will always support soviet invasion in afghaistan.What is the problem if govt provides lands to farmer to cultivate,if someone provides education to the women.US may have problem with communism but it was a deadly decision to support the islami fundamentalists.Regan initiated the fall of USSR but he is the person who took the primary initiative to create talibam and osama.We have been suffering terrorism for nearly 20 years.

USA indeed funded the Mujahdin but who fucking cares? At the time it was the most logical thing for the US to do to combat Soviet expansion without being directly involved. Likewise in Vietnam you had the Russians and Chinese giving aid to the Vietcong/NVA in order to wear down U.S. military might. While it's true that the terrorist groups thrived off US aid, at the time it was worth it to contain the Soviets. Oddly, the US and Russia are united to fight them in the new century.

The US must have smiled with great pleasure when the soviets were defeated in the Afghan war, they planted/funded/trained and directly helped the creation of a force that has become an anal cancer for itself (Taliban) now they have dug themselves deeper with losing a close ally like Pakistan, which is falling to the hands of the very people they so much loved in those days and Called the Mujahideen, the very Mujahideen regrouped to form Taliban and even then recieved US funding.
