@welcome2my2ndlife The gear ratio @gildedalien is talking about riding with is superr low. so hell have to keep a slow cadence while riding on the flats at a comfortable speed or try and go fast to actually spin at a decent rate it would be so teerrible when he climbs hills. Mashing on the pedals at low cadences is supposed to have neagitve affects on your knees and ive also heard trying to resist against the pedals to slow down can be bad for them.

@johngorgis well its better than what most fixed riders are riding on. Most of the fixie riders i know ride way lower ratios. If anything, Id go prollya little higher so i wouldn't have to spin so fast. But it would suck going uphill.

Nice one, though I'm a bit surprised he's on such a big gear for RAAM! I've done 38mph and 185 rpm on a small hill near my house on 48x19, though that's by no means particularly high rpm. I'm sure he would have hit more than that somewhere along the line.
