  • Cool

  • The Goo Balls looked on amazed that they were involved in such an incredible game, all the while their tower stretching into the sky falling beneath them, ready to start again.

    -The Sign Painter ;)

  • What i'd give for that original art!!! you'll should do signed prints etc but most of all PLEASE RELEASE THE SOUNDTRACK ON VINYL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how did they animate it after they did the art?

  • @almostwindowsx7 there's a number of ways, anything from Flash, to After Effects, to Apple Motion etc.

  • @tsimtsum2000 yes but they did it in photoshop so how did they animate it?

  • @almostwindowsx7 You can animate in photoshop.

  • @KilleRoyNl yeah figured that out awhile ago but its kind of a pain to animate in photoshop

  • @almostwindowsx7 True. :(

  • if i could graphics wise only do the first 10 secs i would be soooo happy :)

  • T A L E N T

  • I regret paying only 5 bucks for this.

  • @ganonlink suck a dick also if you think it sucks make something Better

  • @TheTrueKir its an awesome game

  • Does someone know which application this is?

  • @2DBrothers Looks like Photoshop

  • AMAΖΣD by this!!!

  • faster, faster!

  • i play this game to feel better, its amazing. its hard to explain how i feel.

  • Amazing, real artists. How long did you need for that image. A year (or two), I would need a lifetime ;)

  • @x9x8x7x61 If it took a year or two per level screen, games would never ever get done :p

  • i heard 2 people made this game.. inspirational and amazing..

  • art pd 2d

  • I'm glad this was made on a PC

    : )

  • Great game! What program do You use in this video?

  • @pitzerwoods

I think it's Adobe Illustrator. After the shape of the tool bars I'd say it's CS3.

  • Great! Thanks man. 8)

  • @TheFlyingFruit its photoshop

  • @pudinthemushroomhead It looks more like Adobe Illustrator, the vector graphics and all.

  • @tsimtsum2000 nope, i asked them

  • nice

  • respect

  • a great game!

    congratulations from Rome, Italy!

  • if there's ONE game that deserves a movie adaptation, it's this. what an amazingly mysterious 2D animation movie would that possibly be... with the same heroic narrator-like text, music, love,...

  • I love the game. But a movie? What a stupid idea.

  • @JelloToo

i just mean to say it holds much more mystery and potential then your next 3D animation movie. i'm not saying they SHOULD do it, 'cause we all know any producer would find one way or another to spoil it entirely. i'm hoping for something new which can attract my attention in an equally amazing way.

  • @JelloToo

and it won't be the prince of persia movie, no matter how much 'donny darko' they put in it.

  • I know

  • game ROCKS! a movie would suck and ruin the mistery of the game.

  • Best Game 4ever!!!

  • 2dboy <3 <3

  • OOOOMMMMMGGGGG

  • hm. looks like adobe Illustrator? At any rate, this game is amazing and has amazing art, so cheers to you for helping in the creation of an awesome game! :]

  • LOL OMG WOW WTF???!!! rate 5*

  • Kyle Gabler is a genious

hope we will see more from him

  • WOOOOOW

  • this is one of the most creative games

  • i LOVE this game! That that making of video is "sick." Hope you make other WOG releases, or other games just as creative. I found WOG by demo-ing Crayon Physics.

  • world of goo is totally cool! Going through my second time through it...thumbs up to the creators. [glad it was part of the macheist bundle or I wouldnt have known about it.] :)

  • Click on my name for all your world of goo soundtrack needs!

  • this game is just lytle hard, but very fuun ;DD

  • does anyone know what program that is?

  • maybe photoshop.....i think :/

  • Comment removed

  • adobe illustrator. it's a vector program that was probably used to make all the game's levels. you can't program games on it though, they used another software for that.

  • you can't do a lot of the things they do here though.

  • Plez!More "Making of WOG"!!!!!!

  • I'm newly in love... with this game. ty dood

  • ur an inspiration

  • amazing just amazing what program did you use!!!

  • You are one amazing artist...

  • Very Nice please upload video how you make the music for the game

  • this game style is nice keep it up ^^

  • post more stuff like this. also make more games.

  • wo...

i didnt think it would be that easy

  • That's sooooooo damn niice!

But can anyone help me with mo problem?

I have 300 goobals in world of goo corp. but I can't get any more! Even though I get likte 15 more xtra balls. Please help me :S

  • World of Goo corp max's out at 300 balls.

  • That is totally awesome and I truly love the music as well.

  • you got SKILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

  • vector editing AND animation in photoshop? dang...

  • haha 2 boys, make a 2d game. awesome ;D

  • you guys are SUPER TALENTED ! well done with everything. you are the geniuses of 2008 !

  • "World of Goo" isnt an adult film?

  • omg rofl. someone mustve played a little trick on u lol.. world of goo is a game

  • this is my favorite chapter :D i like the ending alot

  • Oh yeah and the grey blobs floating across the screen aren't done in Photoshop (except the original art), they're particle effects.

  • In response to the question "how did they make it animated?", looking at the XML for this screen we find:

    SceneLayer name="MachineWheel1Small" depth="-8" x="-318.07" y="366.61" scalex="0.805" scaley="0.805" rotation="67.25" alpha="1" colorize="255,255,255" image="IMAGE_SCENE_ISLAND2_MACHINEWHEEL1SMALL" anim="rot_1rps" animspeed="-0.15"

  • So there would have been a tag (or whatever Photoshop calls it) on that particular layer that caused the anim and animspeed attributes to be generated.

I think it's actually a very cool way to do artist-driven development. Kyle was the designer, artist and musician - the creative guy basically - so figuring out a way for everything to be driven from his "tool of choice" seems very wise.

  • 2dboy developed a set of Photoshop scripts that export to the XML format the game uses. So what you see in the game really was developed in Photoshop, with special tags and layers, which is then exported to the XML formats that we've been reverse-engineering.

This is why they won't release a level editor themselves: they're embarassed about their Photoshop scripts :-). I really think that's fine for them though. And for us fans, there's now gootool and wogeditor for developing new levels.

  • I don't think what the artist did here made the graohic animated, I think after they finished the picture they went onto the game to show it animated, the finished product.

  • wow...f-ing amazing!!!!!

  • So uh.. how did they animate the clip?

  • Waw, world of goo is such an amazing game...

    The revelation of the year

  • well you can never stop progress!

    can you?

    thats right.

    no.

  • One of the best games of the history.

Please, we need World Of Goo 2 !

  • Yeah and World of Goo 2 should be for DS!

  • this game is amazing, maybe your just too dumb to understand it.

  • @imamidget6 i totally agree!

  • THAT WAS FREAKING AWESOME. Give my gratx to the guy/gal who wrote the music its my favourite part.

  • I like how the mouth was removed, looks epic. :D

  • Hm I couldnt solve how he used vectors. if someone can please help me find out - I'll be pleased.

The shapes are ok, but the outer-lines (or shadings -- cel shade) are... well. How did he show it only in the inside ?

  • That program is really odd. He's using vectors but he also manipulated the inside. It can't be illustrator and the video says photoshop but I'm not shure.

  • photoshop does vectors

  • OH, so that's how you did it... How do you add movement though???

  • WOW...

    PLEASE

    PLEASE

    PLEASE

    PLEASE

Can someone tell me what program is being used here? It looks amazing!!!

    Thankyou :)

  • You don't have to be able to draw to create awesome art work ! :D

    LOLs

  • great game! TY all who made it!

  • In that case you're saying TY to only 3 people! :D

  • Just finished the game and it was HEAVENLY... :D

  • this game has an awesome soundtrack

  • nice work guys! I love your game.

  • World of Goo is probably one of the most fun experiences I have had with Wiiware to date. Anyone with negative comments should just keep them to themselves. 2D Boy now stands, for me, up in the indie top 5, along with Pixel, Johnathan Blow, and The Behemoth

  • I love this game soo much.

By the way, what program did you use to make this?

  • Better than anything you could ever make t2darlantan2. :)

I think FPS game are going to die soon, too many are getting made, games like this are going to be huge in the gaming market, problem solvers, RTS games, and thrid person will be the game of the future.

  • hehehe.. It seems this is your ONLY video... not just the only video I have watched. still I subscribed.

  • HOLY-

    -.-

how long this take? + how many levels ar there? Do you have to go through all the process shown for each level? not to mention adding movement? I thought it would be like: add some texture, cut out this, texture this, shade this, done. But you were like super shading and like super texturing. Your awesome. I am so overwhelmed by pure awesomeness I just subscribed, though this was the first video of yours that I have watched.

  • Great game - thanks for reminding what games can be !

  • best game ever.

  • Oh boy, another homophobic god-fearing loser that like Soulja Boy. t2darlantan2, you give the human race a bad name. It's people like you that need to go die in a fire so the rest of us don't have to put up with your retarded shit spew.

  • I agree that t2darlantan2 is an idiot. But please don't bring poor God into this... Last I checked, cussing buffoons weren't very Godly.

  • Since you seem to only understand childish and illogical arguments against something you dislike, I just have this to say: You're a moron.

On a more mature level: You can't deny a game's flawless mechanics and addictive quality just because the art style doesn't agree with you. Its a matter of visual preference.

And cussing people out just for their game design achievements? Lame.

  • The first commandment of finding a good game:

Thou salt not judge the game by it's graphics.

And if you don't care, you can always run home to your Halo.

  • emm, guys, morons like attention... yeah you just owned yourself, no offence.

  • Just beat the game.

Bought this and Spore on the same day. Played Spore first. Then played World of Goo. Havn't played Spore since I started playing this. This is better. I think I'll go try to pass creature stage now.... naaaaa actually i'll try to get all the OCD's!

  • I cannot applaud the guys who made this game enough. It's been so long since I've played a FUN, original game. Thanks for reminding me what an enjoyable game is! Bloody good artwork, too. Art direction and music are a perfect complement to this amazing package.

Anyone who hasn't should buy this on Steam.

  • what software is that?

  • ok, that was hard...

    cool game...

    gonna get it on november...

Will it be on november, wont it?

  • release date is today, nov 17

  • It's been out for a week, on steam, wiiware, etc.

  • Entire game is a work of art :)

  • well done!

  • I'm playing the game right now and it seriously kicks ass. one of the most fun games in a long time. and the art and music is just perfect!

  • the music is epic T.T

  • definatley getting this on monday

  • Looks great, and heavily influenced by the worms series of games (worms world party, worms armageddon). The game itself looks great too and I'm probably going to download it once it's available.

  • downloaded it yesterday(no its not pirated) december 31st my ass...lol owned

  • beautiful draw!

  • Holy wow.......beautiful.

  • Wow, that was awesome. This game is going to rule!

  • Kyle Gabler, you are one talented man.

  • This is the best-looking game I have EVER seen.

  • What program is used to make this.Just the art part

  • Adobe photoshop

but it's very expensive, you could use GimpShop if you want to do something like that ;)

  • thanks. thats what I thought it was but was not sure. I have it but am still learnin

  • I'm pretty sure that's not photoshop. It's definitely something from CS3, but it seems to be a vector graphics based program, so flash or even illustrator seem far more likely.

  • ya ic, but very likely one of adobe's programs

  • Yep, basically for sure.

  • Yeah, it's illustrator, you see a sign of an 'ai' ext in the title of the window

  • It's PhotoshopCS3 being used as if it is illustrator... using the vector graphics (paths in Photoshop) tools.

  • great vid!

    I absolutely love it.

It's nice to see how other artists make their art, you can really learn something new and different!

Does anyone know more vids like this? I mean, of game art speedpaint

  • Wow. I am very glad I watched this.

  • Can't wait to play the game on Wii. Looks absolutely awesome.

  • awesome job) like your style)

  • Woooooo!!! The best!

Looks awesome, thanks for sharing it ^^
