MS didn't "rip" anything off. WPF and XAML have been around for years. XAML has been around a lot longer than XGL. Silverlight has much less of a learning curve than flash, and it uses traditional scripting languages rather than the very difficult to use actionscript. Silverlight also better integrates XML than flash does.

You forgot to mention that Silverlight will never be available for GNU+Linux and other Unix-like operating systems, due to Microsoft's monopoly position and desire for vendor lock-in with all their products. Adobe Flash on the other hand, is.
I would still prefer an open source animation and presentation system, but between the two evils of Silverlight and Flash, Silverlight is far more evil.

This is nothing but Regurgitated FLASH! What's NeXt for these RipOff Artists? Macromedia FLASH Dominates the Web and has WPF right under it's thumb. Just "Google It"! LOLz
