All that pretty iron. All the stickers, caution tape, temp fencing, and a couple of hard hats. It comes to this? That paint looks fresh. Lack of experience? Naaaaaaaaahhhhh. Take another safety class.
Okay, just to clear up all the speculation about this. It was a case of the pin lock not being engaged, could happen to th best of us. The outrigger was forced in by the point loading of the crane coming over. And lastly, the crane in the last few pics of this compilation (with the boom launcher) is not the same one that tipped. The machine that tipped was a 200 ton Demag, the one with the boom launcher is a 500 ton Liebherr.
I think the out rigger suggestion may be correct...looks like a topple backwards....it is easy to forget the effect of the counterweight in pulling a machine backwards
looks like the slew pin wasn't in and the superstructure has started turning as the crane is being driven and the weight of the ballast has pulled the crane over
Tell MR. Irving to grease all driveshaft U-joints before standing it back up ...Easy to get to now and you can find them in the sunlight. That main Boom is SHOT--Big Dent right at the base of it --Cut it off and turn the machine into a Tow Truck instead
what happend it that the locking pin didnt lock the turntable and went he pulled ahead the turntable turned and over went the crane....and thats the way to move the cranes with the boom up at a certain degree ....

@cat304C Haha, too funny!Get it out of sight, half of Saint John already saw it,and I heard about it at noontime at work here in Nova Scotia.I have to agree that it appears the operator was lucky not to get hurt worse than he did, probably pretty sore today though.
Tipped over his sippy cup.
