  • Hello, thank you for doing this. I have a bar chart with two bars for one series and when I select one bar only that one selects and I cannot get the Error bar option. Any Advice?

  • How do you get the error bars to be specific to each column?

  • Thanks mate, very helpful

  • This helped me so much, I was literally sitting at my computer for hours just trying to figure this out.

  • There is no custom option when I do this.

  • Apparently I have Excel 2008 for Mac, just like you, but yet, the error feature in Format Data Series you speak of is not there for me. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks, I've been meaning to look this up for a while now. Very clear explanation, Helped Heaps!!! thanks a lot!

  • nice. key point was the holding command when selecting error values for the error bars. much simpler than the way I was taught.

  • I love you.

  • If you want to get rid of the grid lines you simply mark them with the pointer and press delete on your keyboard. Easy!

  • Anyone looking for the custom error bars needs to update to service pack 1. :D

  • Thank you!

  • I have the same problem as ICYUNVME.

I am using the Mac 2008 version and it's registered.

There is no "custom error bar" option.

    Muchly appreciated!

  • Thanks mate, I couldn't figure out how to get the individual error bars for each column.

  • OMG, I must have spent many hours reading help threads to figure out how to add unique error bars for each column in the Win version of Office 2007, but they all gave crappy or incorrect answers. But just seeing your video made it so clear. I'm sharing this video to the rest of my lab. I love you, man!

  • Thank you so much; I could not figure out how to have different error bars for each data point.

  • Thank you!

  • but you forgot to mention that the option to customize error bars in the 2008 mac version of excel is a missing feature! how did you fix this problem?

  • ok, so you have to update it..... BUT i did it yesterday and I had huge headaches since microsoft said I had an invalid product key which I did not, but I was able to fix it. Just make sure you are ready to go through that trouble. You probably have 12.0 this has 12.2.4 version, it takes a while to update it took about 1.5 hour running at 2.4mbps

  • @joshofcontempt the custom error option is missing for me as well. what can i do to set the error?

  • To delete the gridlines, you can just click on one of them until they are 'highlighted' and press the delete key. (or perhaps function + delete).

  • HI¡ I speak spanish, I have a problem with excel, I don´t know how autocomplete a name without a list. Thank you

  • Oh my god I love you. This is so so helpful!

  • Hi, I have Office 2008 and the File command at the top of the window has disappeared. Do you know how to get it back.

    Regards

  • I am afraid I do not. Is it still gone after re-starting the application?

  • I have gotten to the step where you adjust the error bars in format data series, but when I bring it up my screen does not have the custom button, what do I do now ?

  • Are you using the Mac version? The newest windows version looks quite different, and the custom button can be harder to find.

  • @ohiobiologist I'm having the same problem! I don't have the custom button either. I'm using the 2008 version for Mac. I do have a 'standard error' option but when I click it, all the error bars are the same and clearly inaccurate. Any suggestions?

This video was really helpful, by the way! Thanks!

  • @phiaable you need to download both sevice packs for office. They are available on the microsoft site

  • @ohiobiologist All of these people that are having problems with the Custom Values button is because they are missing the SP1 update for Excel. Go to Help --> Check for Updates and you will get the button with this update! Thanks for this informative video, too!

  • @ICYUNVME1010 I'm on the mac version as well, and having the same problem.

  • @tardigrada6000 You need to download the SP1 pack, also known as the 12.1.0 service pack. you can get it for free off of microsoft's website.

  • @ICYUNVME1010 Mine also doesn't have the custom button- I checked to see what version I was using and I am definitely using 2008 so I'm not sure what is wrong?

  • thank you thank you thank you thank you. you have no idea how long i just spent trying to figure this out. my directions for my lab report only explain it an old version of windows. i don't know why they make this so complicated to do.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. I am glad that I could help.
