Boll earns many on the Pro Tour, World Cup, European Championships etc. and also on the world team championships, where he regularly beat top chinese players like Ma Long and Ma Lin in the past.

Chen Qi is like the Andy Roddick of table tennis. He has a massive forehand but no backhand at all. Everytime he gets into a forehand to forehand rally with Boll he absolutely destroys Boll (just like how Roddick destroys Federer in forehand to forehands), but Timo is smart enough to hit to his back hand and give him off speed stuff. Like I noticed a couple of times Chen Qi was forced to go with the forehand slice and totally messed it up.

@padiltimo Well, you never know. In 2007 WTTC, TB was eliminated by RYU Seung Min with a totally one sided match. But before that, RYU never beat TB and the best match score of RYU was 1:4. Kenta almost elimianted Ma Lin in 2009 ( the factor of new glue should be counted thought). I agree that he wont beat TB for sure, since Kenta alsmot didnt improve after that match, but stealing one game or two also means some trouble. And WTTC used to be full of surpises.

Chen Qi just lacks consistency and finesse to deal with the crafty counter attacker Timo Boll. He’s also the weakest link of strong Chinese players and has a lousy record of beating Timo Boll. On the other hand, Timo Boll has the good luck to encounter him in the semi-final. Imagine Timo Boll play with Xu Xin instead of Chen Qi. #LOL

Chen Qi's failure in this game is not because that Timo Boll's forehand topspin penetrated Chen's defense wall, but just Chen Qi had too many unforced errors. Also, Timo really had good draw here. Xu Xin, Zhang Jike Wang Hao etc have beaten Timo several in a row. Meanwhile, Kenta was out at the first around and didnt get chance to bring some trouble to him . And Timo is in his peak now thanks to the new glue.

@cheneyliu99 no, it's because chen qi's style is very out of date, so he has to take huge risks in order to generate attacking chances. this is why he misses so many shots. if you look at ma long and zhang jike, the newer players, they have many over-the-table attacking techniques, and chen qi doesnt have these. it doesn't have to do with lack of finesse. chen qi always trained for hard hitting rather than soft control. his racket is very fast. his style of play is just antique.
