aeris(aerith Jp) was a girl he flirted with during the game of FF7 so yeah you could say she was an old GF. her death in the game was tragic but i wont ruin it.. get a copy(if possible) and see it for yourself.. you will love it

That's your opinion.I consider Final Fantasy VII a great RPG.I didn't like Shadow Hearts.You should try FFVIII or FFXII

and the reason behind the ribbon on cloud is because of his brief love of Aerith(Aeris) he wears it as a rememberance of her and how he couldnt save her from Sephiroths Masamune sword. She wears it around her hair but lost it as her white materia fell from her hair upon death. at which point cloud now wears it around his arm.

the reason cloud is sick is because of the experiments Hojo did on him just after the incident with Sephiroth and his home town being burned down.... the experiments were of Mako being injected into his bloodstream ultimately tieing him into Jenova(the true source of the Geostigma or star scar syndrome sickness)

everyones sick..it just affects cloud more..cant remember why..but in the film..Aries cures cloud of geostigma when she showers Cloud and Kadaj in water.. =]

Thats wrong viarex....the ribbon is for geostigma...if u remember ..in the ff7 game a ribbon got u immune to any status affect..in the film its for keeping geostigma at bay..and in memory of Aries..
