  • Yeah...never been a fan of radials. Used to like the growl of the Shacleton's Griffons flying overhead, but radials...nah. Give me the pure sound of turbines ANYDAY!

  • It is so amazing that these two Martin Mars stil exist and work. What other aircraft built 45-48 stil works this hard anywhere in the world. I have a lot of respect for the men and women who have kept these ships in the air for such a long time. This is one you can tell your grandchildren about.

  • I have been inside one of these in port alberni bc and I could stand up inside the wing... I'm 6 feet tall

  • I like the cl 415's, they can land anywhere.

  • This plane always flys over my house a couple of times and very low.... MAN IS IT LOUD

  • reminds me of that plane Howard Hughes built called the Spruce Duck...or it was duck something...

  • @HamTheDog No I think it was the Mahagony Mallard, or something...

  • @HamTheDog Spruce Goose.

  • @K1w1scot lmao..thats what I was trying to say..where did I get mahagony mallard from?? lol..thanks

  • Is the main base still in that lake on Vancouver Island?

  • I used to work on Albatroz planes but this plane is twice as large! What a beauty!!!

  • in soviet russia...this plane is pretty much the same size...BUT FILLED WIS VODKA

  • I bet a few ducks get scooped up sometimes

  • what is that? A sproose goose? What a beautiful plane..

  • WTF THESE PLANES ARE MINE WTF WAS THIS A-HOLE FILMING MY PLANES

  • The seats are horrible, bring a cushion

  • thats the spruce gooses little cousin

  • @YSFLIGHT130 No, it is a Martin Mars aircraft. No relation to the Spruce Goose.

  • wuts that, a flying boat with wings?

  • @vava54own Most flying boats have wings :). But yes.

  • @Kujala260 they don't stop they just touch down on the surface, reduce power, and then while they are fillling up the increase the speed as the bomber gets heavier so they can take off once full

  • great vid. Had forgotten all about this gorgeous plane

  • is that plane capable of landing on a runway or is it solely an aquatic model?

  • at 0:09 i thought it was a toy plane.

Then at 0:33 I was like "holy shit! thats a big fucking toy!"

  • Haha thats the boat launch at ok falls

  • I flew in it, crew was the biggest bunch of bad asses. There should be a story I wrote somewhere in the office.

  • ive been watching them for the last 30 + years i use to go to the base and walk around looking at them inside and out you appreciate these planes for what they are and the service they have done over the years ,,, susan coulson has made a new kids book about martin mars bombers just released i got one for my kids

  • My cat would shit its pants if that flew over my house.

That is if my cat was wearing pants at the time.

  • hahahahaha

  • @zzodr lol, if this flew over my house, I'm pretty sure MY pants would have shit in them......

  • @zzodr make a video like that its gonna be funny

  • WOW!

  • I wish I lived near there!

  • me too

  • That's a terrific shot from inside the restaurant. What a beautiful aircraft !

  • Boy, that is a beast. Nice vidja.

  • Nice....

  • Martin Mars flying boat. Was apparently designed as a maritime patrol bomber, but could also be a troop/equipment carrier for long-range invasion deployment - just in case the Manhatten Project didn't work.... They are huge - 200' wngspan.... need I say more.....

  • I grew up by the Martin Mars water bomber base and i remember when i was 6 one of the Martin Mars picked up water from the lake where our Brownie group was down by the beach by the base and flew over us soaking us all on a warm summer day....it was awesome looking up at the humungous plane overhead..scarey but breath taking for sure... and when you swim out to them, or go in a boat under their massive wingspan...thats pretty cool :-)

  • i dont think he meant to say he was getting soaked on a bomb run, more like a bit (still wuit a lot) of water leaking after a scoop run while pulling up. No need to be bitchin' around like you do

  • it's way bigger than a Albatros, that type of plane is it?

  • That takes masive skill and VERY BIG BALLS.

  • been on both of them before.. impressive machines

  • 0:08 Looks sweet!!!

  • That thing is so impressive..Love the shot out of the window..DAMNNN! haha

  • Most definitely not fake. Very cool shots of a very cool plane.

  • Youre retarded, ofcoarse its not fake, fool.

  • u should of seen all the water bombers at the 2003 okanagan fire

  • So big, it almost looks fake.

Then again, it is fucking huge.

  • one has crashed an the other one was dstroxed by something else

  • This is one of the reasons why I love living on the island!

I haven't seen these beasts in forever though, I should go up to sproat lake this summer...

  • Nice Flying skills tyler :D

  • sexiest airplane ever made one day i will own a sea plane " i hope"

  • I want a grumman goose :I

  • Thos bombers are so small inside.

  • yea. big fire.

  • Those things scare the shit outta me... In SYdney NS May somthing there was an older model of one of thsoe I though it was crashing.

  • i thught it was gonna kill the house

    and make another fire

  • @zenuikm The aircraft was picking up water to take to a woods fire.

  • I've seen these pick up water in front of my house in CR in the sea. From afar you can hear the props working and the plane looks like its hovering there but moving ever so slowly forward. ou're amazed it stays in the air. Worth going to port Alberni fo a look in the summer.

  • wo wow and wo

  • beautiful, strange to see such weight and size flying at such slow speeds...

  • holy! wonder how much effort they do to keep to birds flying

  • Nice footage of a WW2 US troop carrier turned air tanker!

  • thats right only a few left in the world today sir!!!

  • Only two as far a I know. They operate from Coulson's Flying Tanker base at Sproat Lake (near Port Alberni)

    British Columbia, Canada.

    They sound great!

  • that is here in the slocan valley right now, i just got back from watching it take off and land, i just sent it to the news so they can show it

  • it doesnt stop moving...its the movment over the water that fills the tank i think. i watched that big thing for days and never saw it stop once.

  • @zenuikm they have different planes

  • whoa, cool

  • wow

  • nice video. Amazing how they skim over the water to fill up. Must be very good pilots.

  • OH MY GOD, look at the size of that plane.

  • No kidding, but it's quite different than modern civil aircraft. Its stubby, with a wingspan about the same (200ft) as most 747's, its less than half the length at 117ft. Just goes to show how much more lift is engineered into modern wings...

  • @zenuikm Too bad modern airplanes suck.

  • @zenuikm actually, the wing designs they had back when this plane was designed weren't all that inefficient, but it was also not designed for high speeds. they weren't really that fast, even for their time and mooneys these days have substantially higher vne than these things have. however, that lack of speed is what makes them perfect for firefighting. a plane that has to zip by at 300kn to maintain altitude won't be very helpful.

  • @zenuikm 747's also has alot more thrust...

  • @Privateer87

"Just goes to show how much more lift is engineered into modern wings"

rather shows how fast the modern jet will fall when unpowered...

  • good shit bro good shit :D
