No doubt, noone was more screwed in this show then Doakes. The guy was easily the smartest cop in his precinct but he paid the ultimate price because everyone else was just so clueless.

@Stiletos There's a difference between knowing who's dangerous through instinct, and smartness.

If he played it cool, smart, and by the book. Dexter would probably be in prison. His downfall was his hot headedness, not letting anyone else in on the loop, and essentially being a lone wolf.

@ShoeMage Who else would he let in? La Guerta has loved Dexter since the beginning. Dexter's sister is one of the cops. Dexter has more of a hold than Doakes. Also, the character Doakes is smart. Notice how Doakes, despite having the occasional hot head, doesn't misstep nearly as much as La Guerta or Deb. I agree with Stiletos, Doakes was screwed by his instinct. He's really smart, but Dexter had a few more resources.
