How anyone can be a replublican in modern times just blows my mind. They aren't the rebluicans from back in the day. They had a good message for their side. Today they're fucking bible thumping blood thirsty idiots who totally avoid facts. THeir party is so screwed right now, and they aren't getting any better. I like having 2 'viable' choices (A lib will never be pres) and now Reps are just too insane. It's funny really. what's more sad is so many ignorant people still follow them.
Because this is a democratic republic which changes presidents every 4 or 8 years. It's improper (and a little creepy) to ask students to support a single man. Medved is completely right. It should have asked what can be done to help the country, not a man. Just like the quote given at the end: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Notice? Country, not president or leader or individual. The community as a whole.
@schradersl2 'the country' is an abstract word and younger kids have difficulties understanding such abstract concepts. Thats why most young children have trouble understanding responsibility because it is such an abstract concept. The president however is a much clearer concept. He is leader of all the people in the country. 'The country' means more then just that piece of earth we call the USA. It also means all the values and principles which are too abstract for 8-10 year olds.
@3star2nr When I was in 4th grade My Teacher told me us to write a letter to Regan, and the was no problem with it. But if a Teacher told Students to write to Obama, she would of been fired. Alos the Gop poltician Jim Greer, who did not want Obama to talk, later amidt he did to please the racists.
