I can't bloody wait to see Cathedral on Friday in London, playing 2 sets :D sweet. Probably the first time I'd be listening to them without being stoned (mainly for the reason that I want to actually get in the venue first)
That certain low tuned guitar; when you strike low free E string, it makes that unmistakable Cathedral sound. It sounds almost like fast F / E change, because the slobbery string vibrates almost to F for the first few parts of a second. just check the intro.

I quite like these doom bands but don't see what they do that Sabbath don't do much better....the riffs and production are monster but none of the singers can touch Ozzy's unhinged wail (and he is in tune)...can someone enlighten me?
This is my favorite cathedral song and one of the best metal songs ever! the video however is aweful, I never knew they made a vid for this song, now i regret knowing that.
Well, the piece itself truly is a masterpiece, I remember hearing it on the radio in -92 and shitting my pants over the awesomeness and heaviness of it, already shaken by Paradise Losts Gothic. But dude, look at the video ...
cathedral has done perfect doom records and perfect heavy metal/stoner rock albums....he does a much better job in cathedral than the vocals in napalm
My mum never passed any remark when she heard the likes of Sabbat or Morbid Angel blaring out of my room, but when she heard this song blasting out one day, she came in and demanded that "satanic music" to be turned off!

Cathedral was simply a great thrash band. Not typical in any way which made them all the more interesting considering the staleness of the genre at times.
One of my favourite bands ever and one of my favourite songs of theirs. Good music transcends genres, but if you will, the sound, the vibe and the heaviness come together to make Cath the DEFINITIVE doom metal band on the planet. 'Nuff said!
To quote my Lee-signed concert ticket from 1996: 'Doom On!' ;o)
indeed my friend...it blew me away a few years back...well the song especially. It was recently re-released with the statik majik ep...maybe i will go buy that because i only have this gem on cassette but do not own the cd.

The perfect era of this band, could never capture entirely what they did on the Statik Majik Ep and The Ethereal Mirror album.

You know it's wierd, Doom metal is often heavier than Thrash metal. But Doom, Unlike Thrash, is not considered extreme metal.
