  • If my memory serves me right, this theme played in the lair of the final boss. I remember beating this after renting it for a few days. It was a little bit diffrent than the other final fantasys but it was still fun in my opinion.

  • This game introduced me to the RPG genre, after this I began to play SOM and many other epic titles.

I was so crazy about this game I used to play this outside in the woods with friends, we filled bottles with cranberry juice to make them look like elixers, good old times, the 90s.

We should be happy for growing up in the 90s.

  • It's not "power metal". There's more to a genre than it's overall aesthetic or individual instruments. The use of "guitars" in this along with this are really selective and not at all the main instrument, which is something I generally associate with Japanese music. I could go on about the artist's influences in making rock music but suffice it to say they aren't speed metal though some if his influences are traditional metal.

  • It took me forever to figure out that I had to move that statue in Focus Tower in the right spot, then save the game and walk around to the other side. I know that has nothing to do with Doom Castle but when I think of Mystic Quest thats the first thing that come to mind! : \

  • I remember the first time I got to Doom Castle and heard this play. I was like :O

  • man brings back memories was the first rpg i clocked, had some kick ass music for its time..secret mana and chrono trigger are great gaming memories too

  • Like Powermetal. :-D

I fucking love this awesome song. It's my childhood!

  • @Malkasten3437 holy shit somebody finally realized that this is power metal. i was beginning to think everyone was a bunch of dumb shits living under a rock together.

everyone look up the song "sword and shield" by celesty.

  • @Celtalian u my friend deserve Klondike bar for that suggestion.

  • SO NOSTALGIC!

  • The intro to this song sounds like the Gutsman's Ass riff XD

  • FFMQ music kicks ass all day long. This has got to be the best music of any Final Fantasy game I've heard, except maybe Final Fantasy Tactics.

  • @jamesgrey13 I totally agree with you on FFT I love all Final fantasy songs but boy that series is tough to beat when it comes to quality and theme with the music.

  • BEST SONG IN THE GAME! When you get to focus tower for that helmet I think that allows you to walk into a room in the final area WAY before the end of the game, I used to just sit in that room and listen to this song

  • @FutureEmperor420 Haha yeah! I love that little place!

  • @FutureEmperor420 It's for the Aero spell, but... yeah, me too.

  • @FutureEmperor420

    Same buddy haha

  • This is fucking bad ass.

  • Say what you will about this game, but there is NO denying that it has by FAR one of the best soundtracks on the SNES. This song, the Boss Battle theme, and the Dark King theme are fucking EPIC. Hell, even the regular battle theme is awesome.

  • My very first RPG. I felt so accomplished when I grinded out to max level on this at the precious age of 10. Never stopped grinding at games since then :P

  • when i finished this game...i thought i had beaten one of the hardest games ever as a four year old....then i managed to get my hands on final fantasy 2...and cried when stuck :( ...but no worries i beat that game years later and laughed satanly at it

  • @JSPUFC Damn, I was like 11 or 12 when I first played and beat this game.

  • Awesome!

  • wtf - Why is there a "don't like"-button?

  • @al3th3i4 so 2 people can hit it by accident when trying to hit like.

  • Awesome game for my first RPG ever played :)

  • I love you for who you are magic song writer

  • 2 people couldn't find Doom Castle

  • @FFXIKadian looks like one of the 2 found it afterwards

  • @FFXIKadian And oddly enough now it only has 1 dislike.

  • Saves up to 3 games!

  • awesome soundtrack :) awesome game :)

  • This reminds me of 80's Rock n Roll :D

  • I think this game is still fun, despite its simplicity. Saying simple is bad is like saying an apple sucks compared to caviar or something. APPRECIATE THE BASICS AND YOU CAN LOVE THE MORE ADVANCED.

    also kickin rad music yo

  • The best tune of Mystic Quest Legend ever.

  • One of my best childhood games! Those were the days. =(

  • i bet many final fantasy fans think differently of this game and many other squaresoft titles after experiencing ff13 and ff14.

  • @grygierpeps im not sure if this is how you mean but after experiencing 13 and never experiencing 14 i miss this game. final fantasy died after 10 imo i own every title released in the us someodd 25 or 26 of em and ive been playing since the final fantasy for nes and after 10 not one of the games has been able to keep my attention further than halfway through the game when i just lose interest. the games try too hard with too little now imo.

  • man this is like the first final fantasy i ever play and then i got so addict to it now it is like my fav saga now:)

  • man, i love this theme. the very first time one hears it, they can't help but think that the game is saying, "Welcome to the final area, your gonna get your ass kicked now!"

  • this's why i always upgraded to the max level in the game in the final dungeon.

  • Heh, awesome. This brings back memories. I used to play through this game as fast I could just to get to Doom Castle for this one song.

  • best final area theme ever!!!

  • Final boss was a joke in this game. nail him with a couple of Cures and he was dead.

  • I always loved the music in FFMQ, this song is no exception. It feels like you're in the final dungeon and that you're on the way to save the world.

  • @wayne62682 Doom Castle was the Final Dungeon. =p And yeah, as a child, I loved this game. In terms of FF though, it was okay. I just didn't really like the Mana System and fact you couldn't level your party. It's probably why FF Fans didn't like it. I mean FF was about raising your Hero and your party (as of RPG's, but Mystic Quest sorta lacked that. Storyline was kinda crappy too, but as a kid, I didn't care so I loved the game).

  • hated this game when i was lil my older cousin gave it to me wen i was really little that douche knew i couldnt understand how to play the game

yet now i can play it easily lol

  • lol, wow...this really brings back memories...time flies...

  • Heh i remember this tune piece.

Nice music to give you a boost of morale, just what i need to beat the final boss.

  • good nomatter what anyone says

  • what da fuck its sooooooooooooooo epic all of themes from legandery gamez from snes , secret of mana , blackthorne , zelda , even cannonfodder , its all so fucking nice to hear that. and im glade to can download all this on my mp3 player listen it whenever i want . thx all guys who uploaded videos !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah dude this game had awesome music for some reason, it was like they werent afraid to try something new. But the game itself was I think designed to be for kids (easy).

I remember loving the dialogue that did not take itself seriously.

  • one of my favorite songs from this game. I play this game just to hear the music.

  • final fantasy III and mystic quest for snes are the best games evar! i played this when i was about 4 years old and i just couldnt pass the 'falls basin' area in mystic quest. i didnt know it was a puzzle lol.

  • @95jmt also look up chrono trigger! FFIII, mystic quest, and chrono trigger are the best rpgs on the snes

  • @Scottland50 Chrono Trigger has shit music though

  • @DinoRave888 have you played the game ?

  • @weeklywalkthrough lol yeah

  • @DinoRave888

no way, CT's music was great

  • @DinoRave888 WHAAAAAAAAAT? I don't think I have to say anything because I know everyone else will.

  • @Scottland50 don't forget super mario RPG! so many people overlook that one, most people wouldn't even know that it was made by square soft

  • i think i used to play this when i was 6 or something might of been younger but i managed to finish it :] so seeing as i was younger i went crazy when i finished it.... and then i cried :L

  • I didn't remember how great the soundtrack is... it's not even Uematsu and it's almost comparable... I still have this game :).

  • this beats the hell out of Uematsu

  • @SarahPalin4Realz Same guy did the music for Treasure of the Rudras (eng name)

  • this game IS my childhood

    also secret of mana

  • its so strange to hear you say that, because its the same for me. i even learned to read kinda from playing it so much when i was young hahah!

  • @elephantoslsd This was a big part of mine too! Great game Inshallah!

  • @elephantoslsd It's a good childhood, then.

  • @elephantoslsd i agree in every sense

those 2 games made up everything

  • @elephantoslsd This + Chrono Trigger and FFIV (labeled FFIII for the SNES)

  • i always thought this song sounded like something Ronnie James Dio would have performed.

    awesome

  • I love this game!

  • where is pazuzu's tower on youtube? :(

  • /watch?v=39a73uFFvkI&feature=related there you go!

  • Mystic Quest for ever!!

    Go 90s!!!!

  • Most Epic Final Fantasy Theme Ever, Reminds me of "Last Duel" from Lufia. Gives the feeling that you're almost to the end of your exciting quest.

  • damnit, i saw this at my local used gaming store for $5 bucks and I passed it up

  • Does anyone else consider this game on the same level of greatness as IV, V, and VI? I sure as hell do! This game has a place in my heart as my second SNES RPG. First one was Super Mario RPG.

  • na. no where compared to 4 or 6. those are epic in there own way, S.Soft, made this game because they got complaints by gamers saying the other games were hard so they a easier game for newcomers to the genre. but for what its worth its awesome in its own way but no were compared to those, also not even close to Mario rpg.

  • There were only two RPGs released by Squaresoft in the US when Mystic Quest was released.

It wasn't because people complained, it was an attempt at making a 'dumbed down' RPG for American audiences because the RPG market in the US wasn't considered strong at the time.

Thus, the jumping, hacking, bombing, hook shotting etc that Mystic Quest had. The Japanese version was called "Final Fantasy: USA"

  • gawd me too! i take soo much pride into playing this game

    such an amazing game

  • This game had some good music

  • oh yeah...like this one...=D

  • great theme, but the quality sucks!

  • One of the most well written songs in all of video game music. I would often play Mystic Quest just to hear this song. ^_^

  • This is so epic. I loved this game so much as a kid.

  • I love this music, I think of a hero scenario where I'm in a 4x4 & I crash through the front door of a castle trying to rescue someone.

  • Does anyone have the music played when visiting the Temples? I really need that one.. it's so beautiful..

  • type in shrine of light and search it. should be the second one put up by shamdeo

  • Thank you : )

  • You're welcome

  • how come did all these rpg games on snes had so great music? if only people cared to rearrange it and record not in midi, it could fit the today's games... or normal power metal instrumental recordings. just great. this and many other

  • LOL this makes me think about the messed up chronology of the series, getting me confused ^^

Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest in US, Mystic Quest Legend in Europe

Final Fantasy 6 in Japan, Final Fantasy 3 in US

Final Fantasy Adventure in US, Mystic Quest in Europe, Seiken Densetsu in Japan

Seiken Densetsu 2 in Japan, Secret of Mana in US and Europe

So where does FF: Mystic Quest belong, actually? Does it take place in the FF, SoM or MQ universe? Sheesh, my head's spinning o_O

  • well....here's the deal.....it could easily go into the FF universe(Mostly since there really isn't one), but its really just another standalone.

  • Well, I think you're spot on :)

Plus none of the game's monsters look SoMish or MQish :D

  • Don't forget Final Fantasy Legend. In Japan, they were actually part of the SaGa series.

  • Wow, even more confusion ^^

    Thanks for the information :)

  • SoM.

    MQ is just another name.

  • Benjamin>Cloud Strife

  • OMG Wow... this brings back memories. I remember when I first set foot in Doom Castle... I stood there for like 20 minutes just listening to the music, it's just that freakin' awesome. XD God I loved this game... IDK why it got such a bad review from FF fans, tbh. =\

  • Because it's not VII. Basically.

  • @zelos1826 the storyline isnt as moving or complete compared to other FF games, but this game had some of the best video game music of its time. it still holds up well today

  • @zelos1826 they're probably just mad that they couldn't beat this game!

  • @haloisaprettycoolguy How could you not, the final boss, cure, you win.

  • @zelos1826 i would just let the music play and record it on tape....LoLz

  • @zelos1826

i think it just got a bad review due to the simplicity of the game, but seriously what a FUCKING SOUND TRACK!!! AND the game was decent dispite what people say... it was the staple for most of us to get turned onto other RPG's that rocked!!! like chrono trigger, earthbound, secrets of mana, ff4 and ff6.... awe shhiit

  • @zelos1826 Me either, I always loved it, it was a different take at final fantasy, but at the same time, wasn't completely redone, and the music is friggin orgasmic! MM!

  • I like 0:40 to 1:03. when I hear 1:04 to 1:13I think of a dog outside at night for some bizzare reason.

  • Cool song, but I like the dark king theme better.

  • Doom Castle sounds like the name of a heavy metal german rock band.

    DOOOM CAAAAASTLE

  • LOL, Ramstein

  • I wish a symphonic metal band would do a cover of this.

  • Same if it's old, FFMQ songs are still amazing! =D

  • man i remember this fuken game so fucking long ago it was my very first FF

  • The song and game cover is classic. That is so clever and well executed, having the sword be part of the Q. It's a good composition, and the type face is cool.

  • highwind8124: Soooo many people hated Mystic Quest, but I don't see why, it's a good game :( It's just really simple! And it's soundtrack is excellent, XD

  • While the game may be easy, the soundtrack rocks hard.

  • GRAHH!!! this sounds SO familiar to another piece of video game music but I can't remember the title or game.

  • Lufia???

  • That might actually be it. Now that you mention it, it does sound very much like Lufia. I miss that game.

  • Yea i thought so too!!! Plus the tittle also reminds me of Lufia you know Lufia and the fortress of doom???

  • Do you know who the composer for the soundtracks are for the two games? I have a feeling that Nobuo Uematsu had a hand in FF:MQ

  • I have no idea all i know is that Nobuo Uematsu fricken rocks lol!!!

  • I just had to look it up. It seems that Nobuo Uematsu is not the composer but two different people, Ryuji Sasai and Yasuhiro Kawakami are the composers. My next step will be to see who the composer for Lufia is.

  • That would be Yasunori Shiono. Lufia music rocks!

  • Amazingly enough, I had a lufia song on my video list and it coincidentally gave a like to this song!

  • lol awesome!!!

  • And by 'video list' i meant 'video log' and by 'like' i meant 'link'. I must have been tired or something when I last posted a comment.

  • lol

  • It sounds kind a heroic! It's got the "We are nearly at the end and have to fight our last battle very soon". I love this theme.

    So much memories...^^

  • had to be square to made a games like this! the game, song.... EPIC!

  • If you love the music from this game, I would suggest checking out music from Rudra's Secret Treasure, Treasure of Rudra, however you wish to say it. Listen to the battle themes in that game. They are very excellent so to say. As they are from the same composer: Ryuji Sasai

  • i remember playing the game until i got to this part... then sat off with a beer and just listened to it.... this owns!!

  • LOL! epic!!!!

  • Yes, finally:D Ive played this game when I was 12:D And it was german, so I cant understand anything, cos' Im hungarian... It was fun. And this music is one of the best game musics ever.

  • I played this game when I was sick back when it came out and it made me feel better.

  • This song is to sick

  • pretty rockin!

  • Great music! That's what this is all about! Mystic quest had some really catchy songs. Dark King is another good one, and who can forget the battle theme? The soundtrack had 3 remixes - 1 was an obscure song of some guy saying "mystic... mystic quest.. quest..." it wounds weird. The other two are doom castle and dark king/battle theme and they are TOTALLY RAW

  • The main character doesn't wear a helmet!!!

Well, in terms of the artwork, he does. But in the actual game, he doesn't, besides the armor you obtain within the game.

Now that I think about it, doesn't the Japan artwork show the Main Character's actual form, although in a more japanese artform?

  • also notice that when you turn away from camera.. his head looks like a liquorice allsort? mwahahaha

  • very good game :o)

but it isn't a alternative for "secret of mana"

in the end, i think it is a beautiful memory :)

    long life the snes-days :D

  • well said. i agree in everything u posted! :-)

  • Was ported to gameboy in Europe or at least a version was released over here, I had it.

  • I don't think it's the same game. I think it just shares the name for some reason :/

Wasn't Mystic Quest to Gameboy more of a Zelda:ish game? This is a turn-based jrpg.

  • its a sword with the light shinning on it, dont b silly althou i can see wht ur saying XD

  • Doesn't this remind you of the snapshot of the monkey from The Lion King, the circle of life cept this guy holding a light bulb or something not simba.

  • This song is VERY good! Thank you for uploading it as well as the rest of your videos!

  • lol why did this comment got downrated that much

  • Because this game never existed on Gameboy? xD

  • yeah quite the fail lol though he probably meant the final fantasy GB titles or final fantasy adventure (seiken no densetsu)

  • I'm glad I came across this one as a kid. I still remember me and my dad giggling at some of the names in the credits like ITTI KITTI.

  • WTF? ive played most of squaresoft's RPGs but never this one. music in this one sounds bad ass. sucks i never got to experience it.

  • You can still order it on Amazon

  • My favourite track of the whole game, in particular at 0:40 when it gets REALLY epic quest like

  • its my favorite track too

  • Me 3. ;.)

  • Man, mystic quest had one of the best sound tracks. It was pretty much one of the only RPGs I have ever played with some genuine progressive metal tunes hehe.

  • my favorite "final dungoen" music :3

  • Agree with U

    gdreyband

  • Great game, great music.

  • Some of the best game tunes of all time. Are in this SNES game.

  • SNES was the best, and this is coming from a motorcycle riding, xbox playing dude who only played these games as a kid for a little bit.

  • of all songs i'd like to hear a guitar version of this!

  • There's one on the OST. It's called Mystic Re-Quest 1

  • Even if it wasn't such a great game, this is one of the best game tunes.
