    This line ruined the entire dramatic tone of this scene for me...

  • Chorus was an essential part of every drama in the Greek tragedy since it serves a dramatic purpose to the play. It plays an active role in the action of the play. For instance, the Chorus dissuades Oedipus from carrying out the act of banishment or sentence to death against Creon. It also soothes the feelings of Oedipus when he appears before them, blind and helpless though it does not make light of the sinful deeds of which Oedipus has been shown to be guilty.
