I work at a low-end retailer such as Walmart, and I can tell you this; the kind of customers we get; low lives, retards, morons and in general stupid people, you'd be paying us 50$ an hour just to put up with your ****. They should tell Walmart employees to work on customer service, speak english, and do their job right. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to Walmart and the associates don't even know how to communicate and don't even know their products. When going to walmart to ask about a laptop... you might as well be talking to a wall.
They end up selling 500/1 over the locals because their profit margin can afford to sell a $100 for $400, but the local vender who only buys as needed (and did it that way even before Walmart existed) is buying the same TV for $500 and has to retail it at 1500 to hit the same profit margin. When local merchants in a shrimping town can sell $5/lb shrimp, I'll stop buying Walmart's Philippine shrimp.
The people working at Walmart are all overpaid for the level of service and product quality. The only reason Walmart makes any money is because local venders don't negotiate with there supliers and often only cary very high end products. Take TVs for example: Walmart sells low to mid grade televisions, brand names but lower quality. They will sell 2/1 over the same product at a local business. But the local businesses don't cary the lower end merch. Even if they did, Walmart buys in bulk. So...

I was a department manager for a wal-mart when I was going to college...after a year I made $8.25 an hour. I have long since quit that company and refuse to ever shop in their stores again. I will not support such a ruthless, cutthroat company. A company that embraces every negative aspect of capitalism, pursuing the almighty dollar no matter the consequence.

Sooooo...it's a job, but not much of one for everyone who isn't full time or a manager, which isn't a majority of the workers. That's the only way you can get yourself above the poverty line there.

They can afford to lower prices enough to the point where they're pretty much paying to sell things, then once they've put out all the competition that cannot afford to do the same, they're one of the only sources of employment and they raise prices back to normal. @kcufmalsi I was being sarcastic when I said there were so many jobs out there. Where I live there are very few jobs and many people looking for work. Orange season is here so a lot of people are working the groves but that is only seasonal. Tourist season will slow down after the holidays and many will have thier hours cut. If you are in retail and do not have regular hours the 2 jobs will not usually accomodate you. They make you choose which job is more important.

I worked for Wal-Mart for a little over 4yrs and in that time frame they treated me like a white slave. I transferred to another store out of state, and that new store treated me like total shit! I got pregnant, had a miscarriage, missed some days of work, and they wrote me up, couldnt transfer back to my orig. store, and they wouldnt take off the write up even though i had DR's notes to prove why i missed so much work. Wal mart SUCKS!

They end up selling 500/1 over the locals because their profit margin can afford to sell a $100 for $400, but the local vender who only buys as needed (and did it that way even before Walmart existed) is buying the same TV for $500 and has to retail it at 1500 to hit the same profit margin. When local merchants in a shrimping town can sell $5/lb shrimp, I'll stop buying Walmart's Philippine shrimp.

The people working at Walmart are all overpaid for the level of service and product quality. The only reason Walmart makes any money is because local venders don't negotiate with there supliers and often only cary very high end products. Take TVs for example: Walmart sells low to mid grade televisions, brand names but lower quality. They will sell 2/1 over the same product at a local business. But the local businesses don't cary the lower end merch. Even if they did, Walmart buys in bulk. So...

I was a department manager for a wal-mart when I was going to college...after a year I made $8.25 an hour. I have long since quit that company and refuse to ever shop in their stores again. @kcufmalsi I do have to say that everyone I know who works at WalMart hates working for not much above minimum wage. My mother, for instance, had a college degree but had to work overnights there because there was nothing else available for her. Insurance wasn't affordable, and her hours stank.
Sooooo...it's a job, but not much of one for everyone who isn't full time or a manager, which isn't a majority of the workers. That's the only way you can get yourself above the poverty line there.

They can afford to lower prices enough to the point where they're pretty much paying to sell things, then once they've put out all the competition that cannot afford to do the same, they're one of the only sources of employment and they raise prices back to normal. @kcufmalsi I was being sarcastic when I said there were so many jobs out there. Where I live there are very few jobs and many people looking for work. Orange season is here so a lot of people are working the groves but that is only seasonal. Tourist season will slow down after the holidays and many will have thier hours cut. If you are in retail and do not have regular hours the 2 jobs will not usually accomodate you. They make you choose which job is more important.

I worked for Wal-Mart for a little over 4yrs and in that time frame they treated me like a white slave. I transferred to another store out of state, and that new store treated me like total shit! I got pregnant, had a miscarriage, missed some days of work, and they wrote me up, couldnt transfer back to my orig. store, and they wouldnt take off the write up even though i had DR's notes to prove why i missed so much work. Wal mart SUCKS!

Well, how about this for a dose of reality, dearheart--WALMART is NOT going to give clerks and shelf-stockers "good jobs" with competitive wages, retirement, and career advancement---forget it. These are entry-level, unskilled labor positions that, frankly, are a dime a dozen. Prepare for a career and stop "flashmobbing" businesses.

That being said, I'm not sure why you're demonizing the unemployed during the worse unemployment we've seen since Reagan.The communist manifesto was Marx earliest work & was very focused on the specific conditions of the time- a lot of what it asks for has already come to pass in the form of well accepted government programs. Both parties openly embrace capitalism. I'm not sure why you folks keep focusing on Obama though.
