@4:50 the still pic. The guy running towards the camera, whose face you can see is my grandpa. I still to this day have not seen any "action" or "film" footage of him running to get help. I do have the Sat. Evening Post that the pic appeared in, and also have an 8X10 of the pic.

That burning German tank stood there for a very long time, I remember seeing it there right in front of the Excelsior Hotel that's on the left corner. I also recognized some other landmarks, such as the Roemer Turm

@Brikjard The first shell from the panther passed through the turret just above the drivers hatch killing the driver and taking off the commanders leg.
@Newbpwng Its just a case of searching old footage for any of Jim Bates original stuff and trying to piece it together. Theres also some excellent photos of the aftermath but they are quite hard to get hold of.
Fascinating video. Most interesting is to see the utter devastation that occurred in Koln from a street by street perspective. Cologne is now, of course, a beautiful city, it is incredible to think that this was a mere 65 years ago. Thanks for posting.

This is exellent. Some I have seen before, much I have not. The sound track is perfect too. I served for 9 years in tanks and I'm glad I never had to fight in a city. tanks are at such a disadvantage in built up areas. You should come and visit us at tanks-alot sometime (check out my channel).
