  • This song is one of the best ever. todays music sucks no one had real talent any more

  • @zimmcat So does your mother and her "career" hasn't lasted 35 years! Fuckin looser! Go back to listening to Justin Bieber and keep thinking he makes music! Looser~!

  • @zimmcat Go to hell! That's a grossly untrue generalization. Canada has its share of good and bad bands, just like anywhere else. Rush is NOT a "fag band"; they never have been, and never will be!

  • @zimmcat This band instrumentaly will wipe the floor with anything you listen to

  • this brand kick ass

  • One or two people there, then............

  • I imagine this is what it might have looked a bit like had Rush played Woodstock!

  • Going to see them in Vegas tonight at the MGM for my birthday. Rock on!!!!

  • im goin to see them later today, this is one of my favorite songs by them, super xed

  • Watching "Clash of the Titans" makes me think of this song.

  • 3:20

  • "free will" is an illusion.. think about it... but rush is cool nonetheless eh?

  • @yurianne07

It is not free will which is an illusion but freedom which is the illusion.

  • I don't know much about Rush, so can someone please tell me, what's with the washing machines on the background?

  • @DustInTheWind64

Geddy doesn't use any backline amps as he DI's into the PA.. He uses the washing machines as a 'replacement'.. He's can because he's cool :)

  • Sem comentários!!! O Rush é demais!!!

  • I notice that Alex is singing along w/ Geddy but apparently they turned off his mike b/c you can't hear his voice at all.

Thank God we can hear his guitar.

  • I notice that Alex is singing along w/ Geddy but apparently they turned off his mike b/c you can't hear his voice at all.

Thank God we can hear his guitar.

  • RUSH!!! A cult band which I"m a proud member there of... Rock on RUSH

  • what do you call that kind of hat neil wears?

  • Never paid attention to the beginning of this vid until this time, that's a huge crowd!

  • 3:22 i stopped playing guitar

  • justin biever disliked this video 2 times......

  • thanks to this video i am now a rush fan

  • Holy crap...I have a Fender guitar and an Ibanez bass...the exact opposite of what I'm seeing...

  • Pretty sure when they got their paycheck or whatever they get for doing concerts they got like enough money to buy like 2 houses lol

  • SHIEET! how many goddamed people were there?

  • @ClubPenguinMovies123 I read someplace that it was around 500,000 people. I get goosebumps just watching it

  • who would hit dislike on this video? this is definately an amazing video of rush live! Geddy's working it to the max, smiling away while playing the bass! love these guys!

  • Geddy lee is bad on that bass he really rock that base, just like Sting of the police.

  • The changes at 0:53 defently does it. It's so unpredicted. Love it.

  • Alex is having a bad day. He made two huge mistakes in the solo. But I still love him!

  • HOLY SHIT! that's a lot of people!

  • i was at that concert in Toronto

  • @MrWhowas

    Lucky bastard >.>

  • I notice that most of time we see Alex Lifeson singing, but we don't hear him..is that by design or just some other tech reason or what...

  • @MOSKII58 The microphone is usually off

  • According to wikipedia:

"Estimated to have between 450,000 and 500,000 people attending the concert, it is the largest outdoor ticketed event in Canadian history, and one of the largest in North American history."

  • "Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto" A SARS relief concert in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on July 30, 2003.

  • OH FUCK THATS ALOT OF PEOPLE!!! WHERE IS THIS

  • @102rush Toronto, i think it was during the sars outbreak

  • @chrispwns123456789 yah but where is it

  • @102rush i took this from wikipedia "The concert was held at Downsview Park in northern Toronto, a former military base which also accommodated 800,000 people when Pope John Paul II visited the city in 2002"

  • RUSH --- "FREEWILL"

  • i just started obsessing over rush my dad was a huge fan. THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!

  • Neil blew my mind at 5:08.

  • One person was dealt a losing hand

  • I remember watching this exact video on TV when I was ten years old (in 2003). My Mom kept pointing out the washing machines on stage to me for one reason or another. I'm about 95% sure it was a live broadcast. It's an extremely vivid memory that has stuck with me and it's almost surreal finding the video on YouTube seven years later...

  • @Fatchess5 it was a live broadcast I was there!!! and it was the most incredible concert ever!

  • simply the best

  • One person missed the like button.

  • They didn't do half bad on this. He had a few vocal mess ups and the sound just didn't sound right at some parts.

  • you wish you could make his mistakes.

  • Unfortunately I just learned that Alex's sound men add recorded tracks to the mix for a richer sound----so that a second guitarist doesn't have to be on stage. I think that's a shame. I would never do that. Bring another guitarist on stage fer christsakes! hehhehe

  • So don't we all :)

  • Alex made a few mistakes :(

  • On second thought, disregard that. I'm just remembering that it was Geddy who said he'd be using orange equipment in the up coming tour. :(

But i still want to try that combo...

  • On the new tour, Alex is pairing his PRS Guitars with Orange cabs and heads for certain shows. I haven't heard them together yet, but that combo gives me chills. It sounds like it'd be incredible :)

  • damn i pressed dislike by mistake...fuk

  • @sixfeetontop We all know you missed it because you were so blown away.

  • @Annonymus121 you know it brother

  • Love the Paul Reed Smith Guitars.

  • That bass and guitar solo is epic. It's like 60 sec of pure joy to the ear. No 3 guys ever meshed together so well.

  • ZERO PEOPLE MISSED THE LIK- oh wait. Awesome!

  • underrated? look at that sea of people. they are doing just fine.

  • @PeteTzah Underrated by critics

  • 08/10/2010 Rush is São Paulo, Brazil !!! I Will...listen to Freewill alive!!!

  • @oasotam you are lucky, Rush doesn't have any date on Lima, Peru :(!

  • @juanjoThrash Hey brother, don´t feel yourself bad, with this! We´re all latins, blood brothers right! There will dates here in Brazil, São Paulo 08/10 and RIO 10/10. I think Chile, also will have an alive perform too! Would be a bit, closer to you right?! Don´t loose the oportunity, life´s too short! Enjoy it my fellow! RUSH = )

  • You are the product of how your environment has shaped the genes you were born with, nothing more. Anyone else who had been born with your genes and lived your life would have made the same choices you have made. Dont kid yourself. Free will is a crock of shit!

  • @chefshitpiece you really suck if u dont like rush> if u hate them so much why r u watching them?

  • @IRONMAIDENFAN1995 I think Rush is pretty good. I just think Free Will as a CONCEPT is bullshit. "SPIRIT OF THE READIO" is one of my favorite songs of all time!

  • @chefshitpiece only a crock of shit if you were an indoctrinated, brainwashed fucktard. welcome to reality, think for yourself.

  • It's nice to see that Neil took a little bit of pity on the crew on this gig and only brought about a quarter of his kit

  • Can anyone tell me why there are running washing and drying machines on stage?

  • @TheMelodiousOne0921 Geddy once joked in an interview that when he is onstage he like to have soft warm towels. Seriously though he runs his bass signal through 3 different amps and effects racks to get his sound so I guess its more convenient for him to do this, and at the end of the gigs there are special t shirts and things in the dryers which they throw out into the crowd.

The bottom line I guess is Geddy does it just because he can:)

  • @TheMelodiousOne0921

Because it's funny. Chicken rotisserie machines is funnier.

  • Neil Peart looks like a Muslim bear.

  • Rush Rules!!!

  • at 3:19 alex messes up haha

  • man they sound the exact same as in there recordings

  • @Jeffyhardy28ful yea...because they aren't fake and don't use auto-tune.

  • @ericplayzbass2 I KNO ITS AWSOME

  • @Jeffyhardy28ful indeed it is. they are my gods.

  • dude looks like shawn penn

  • My dad needs to get me guitar lessons

  • is it just me or is this song pretty much about the non-existance of god?

  • @WartedTomcat1 maybe, depends if peart is an atheist or not.

atheist or not, he's a beast on drums

  • @WartedTomcat1 you choose

  • @WartedTomcat1 i think it's about how people act in the grand scheme of things. that some people believe that they aren't responsible for their acts but fate is, therefore they aren't responsible for their actions. this song faces the fact that we are all under free will and embraces it.

  • 4:38 holy hell, look at that massive jutting jaw Geddy has.

  • the washing machines arent as crazy as the guy in a chicken suit painting bbq sauce over chicken in a rottiserrie thing in spirit of radio-atlanta 08

  • @PeeceSells my favourite part off of the Snakes and Arrows dvd is watching Neil barely keeping his composure when he sees the big chicken, lol

  • @Joeysmynewfavdrummer exactly, then geddy urns around is like wtf? then realizes the lyrics start up agen in a sec and gets back on the mic. gotta love rush

  • @Joeysmynewfavdrummer yeah man, that is funny as hell :)

  • simply the best ! washing machines - it's avantegarde.

  • such a talented band still rocking

  • I like the way they sung this, in my personal opinion it sounds a little better then the one on the album. Their voices have aged a little and they just fit the song perfectly... plus the playing is a little different.

  • Gheddy Lee is awasome, but one thing, why are there washing machines in the background/

  • @TayThrash077 For a while now instead of the huge amps geddy used to use for his bass, he now uses some type of sound system, and the stage looked empty so they put the big dryers on stage to fill in the room where the amps used to be, and they sometimes take the rush shirts out of the dryers and throw them into the crowd.

  • "i will choose a path thats clear...to the fridge for another beer"

that was actually the original lyric, but the record company made 'em change it.

  • RUSH!!!!!!

  • Washing machines? :D

  • @TFIFH actually there are dryers not washing machine, Geddy Lee now uses in ear monitors so he needed to fill his side of the stage with something and thought, why not dryers ? ... the dryers are full of RUSH shirts and are tossed into the audience at the end of the show ... all nice n' warm! how cool is that ?

  • @asifineededaname I see...

  • No disrespect intended as i think geddy is the most talented bassist on earth atm but at 4:38ish he looks like beavis. This was not a serious post merely an observation dont bother flaming me

  • @sparkytrev1 no, you're right. kinda funny, actually

  • y is there a washer and dryer @ 4:54

  • @bassplayer20orange Geddy doesn't have speakers and amps, he plays directly into the PA -- so they put the washers and dryers to take up the space where his gear would be

  • @rick4adk Actually, Geddy DOES have a backline, but it's small. Does he patch directly into the PA. No. He goes through the usually array of effects and other equipment before going into his cabinet, which is small. It's mics and it's patched into a mixer off-stage. Then it goes to FOH before the PA.

  • @bearmare Geddy incorporated the backline into the time machine tour, using orange bass amps, but before that, IIRC, he had a direct line to FOH

  • Geddy likes to use dryers instead of amps because they give his bass that crisp warm sound.

  • I saw an interview once where he was asked about the tumble dryers his answer was "i like warm fluffy towels" obviously a joke but I do know that Geddy still uses a back line of sorts just that its hidden and in those tumble dryers are usually specially made tshirts that they throw out at the end of gigs. Great band Great musicians :)

  • what a lewd light, like someone shed a shade hop I'm late hop power. Or it may have been so storybook childly hazy, i wow how rusty and rivandel , these pristine machines played in the dirty pre-ordained fog of... long low lower , deeper lower, flizzlediggbet.

    ;) High :)

  • Geddy Lee is class.

  • so if geddy is a jewish canadian...does that mean he cant eat canadian bacon?!?!?!? OH SNAP MUDAFUCKA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's an atheist, so your joke is lame.

  • @GottOngeloof

    ummm considering hes a jew....

  • These guys are so awsome cause they can all have their licks and solos at the same time and still keep the beat

  • Alex- Go back to the Marshalls and the ES355, etc. This sounds like shit. Shame on you.

  • @Tata996 It´s more about the player than the rig. The important thing here is that Alex Lifeson is an incredibly capable guitarist, not that he´s using a certain guitar/amp setup.

  • I'm beyond being blown away by his presence. I need the authenticity of the whole experience with original equipment.

  • I wonder how many of you youngsters know how far BACK this band goes? I saw Rush open for Blue Oyster Cult in 75, and saw Blue oyster Cult open for them in 1986. Saw Pat Travers open for them in 1978 with Tommy Aldridge on drums. What a show! Best Rock band on Earth is Rush, Best R&B band is Tower of Power. Last time I saw Rush live was in 92.

  • How far does Tommy Aldridge go back? Black Oak Arkansas, Alcatraz, Ozzy, Whitesnake...I know I missed something.

  • whats with the washing machines?

  • You can never find time to do your laundry. Geddy is a clean-freak.

  • when geddy and alex harmonize i cant here alex at all

  • That because of the lasagna.

  • @StickManga i cant here geddy when they do

  • for the people who want to know about the washing machines check geddy lee's wikipedia page...

he plugs direct to board now to bypass sound quality issues and needed something to take his amps space, he dicided to use washers and dryers (coin op) and him and alex and throw the special shirts(rush shirts that are specific to the dryer) to the crowd at the end of shows... i think it's hilarious

  • Actually, Geddy still uses a backline. It's located next to the washing machines, vending machines, slot machines...

  • That's ALOT of people. -Says captain obvious.

  • Thanks Captain!! ;)

  • damn alex is going to town on this

  • @joeglimmix he always does hes the best guitarest ever

  • a better question... whos laundry is in them LOL...

  • The dryers sound good!

  • Just a question....does anyone know what is with the washers and dryers in the background? I have always wondered.

  • Hah, I was wondering the same thing.

  • Because the bass amp is no where near the size of all the guitar amps that Alex uses, Geddy uses vending machines, washing machines, and rotisserie chicken cookers to make his side of the stage even with Alex's side. When a band as good as RUSH comes around, they can do crazy shit like that.

  • They do it to fill up space just like fight4yafreedomsaid. They also do it because of their good since of humor, and so people will ask, "Why do they have dryers in the background?" =)

  • dry air bass

  • Also, they put specailty made Rush T shirts in there and at the end of the show throw them to the crowd

  • wow ive never seen this before! im amazed at how awesome geddy is singing (knowing the fact that geddy cant sing the way he did back in '80)

  • they have it all best band and best drummer

  • wasn't this sars-fest

  • sars stock yeah, best concert ive ever been to by far

  • i cant tell but it looks like niel is using pitch black cymbals?

  • it could be his electronic set, otherwise idk

  • No, he's signed with sabian now. And it's just the "special" cleaner that Lorne Wheaton uses on his cymbals.

  • yah he may be signed with sabian but he wasnt in 2003

  • best band ever

  • luv the bass solo!!!!!!!

  • this song kicks ass!!!

    May Rush live on forever!

  • you are correct sir

  • What guitar is Alex Lifeson using?

  • i may be wrong, but i think it is a PRS

  • It's a PRS

  • maaan, Rush is so underrated compared to Iron Maiden, Metallica, and those monster bands...

Still Rush is better than both!

  • @darknessgodzamorak

I would like to say that the band mentioned are not really in the same genre. Metallica, Iron Madien, and AC/DC are Metal bands. RUSH, Yes, and the Alan Parsons Project are more of a Progressive sound. But in regards to Talent, I agree completely of the underratedness and thos bads I mentioned are in the RRHF. RUSH is not....yet.

  • @simplehomosapien

Why everyone else uses the same excuse of "they're nore the same genre"?? OF COURSE they're not! I gave an example of famous bands...that's all mate.

  • @darknessgodzamorak well yeah seeing as Rush is the most common reply when other musicians are asked who their main influences are.

Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, and John Myung to name a few bassist who have said Geddy Lee, and pretty much all drummers include Neil

  • @Joeysmynewfavdrummer

Really? Whoa, where do you live buddy? I gotta move where there's more Rush fans, here in my town there's barely anyone who actually likes rock n roll/heavy metal!

  • @darknessgodzamorak Iron Maiden is highly rated?

  • @higma1467 Idk what you meant by that, but if you ask 10 people about Iron Maiden, they will, of course, know them. Now if you those same 10 people abut Rush, probably a few of them knows Rush.

  • holy shit thats alot of people

  • Bass is beating the guitar solo.
