PERMANENT WAVES (1980) marked the starting point for Rush's full-blown entry into condensed, accessible progressive rock. They abandoned the 20-minute suites and mystical lyrics for catchy progressive song structures, and more human, worldly-related topics. But, Geddy Lee (vocals/bass/synths), Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drums/lyrics) didn't lose their brilliance in composition, even if most of the track lengths were fit for radio. ENJOY! ;o)
@zimmcat So does your mother and her "career" hasn't lasted 35 years! Fuckin looser! Go back to listening to Justin Bieber and keep thinking he makes music! Looser~!
@zimmcat Go to hell! That's a grossly untrue generalization. Canada has its share of good and bad bands, just like anywhere else. Rush is NOT a "fag band"; they never have been, and never will be!
Hey guys just to let you know i have uploaded this with awesome audio on my channel if anybody wants a good version. Thumbs up so everyone can see, not that i care about views i just think people will appreciate it.
who would hit dislike on this video? this is definately an amazing video of rush live! Geddy's working it to the max, smiling away while playing the bass! love these guys!
"Estimated to have between 450,000 and 500,000 people attending the concert, it is the largest outdoor ticketed event in Canadian history, and one of the largest in North American history."
@102rush i took this from wikipedia "The concert was held at Downsview Park in northern Toronto, a former military base which also accommodated 800,000 people when Pope John Paul II visited the city in 2002"
I remember watching this exact video on TV when I was ten years old (in 2003). My Mom kept pointing out the washing machines on stage to me for one reason or another. I'm about 95% sure it was a live broadcast. It's an extremely vivid memory that has stuck with me and it's almost surreal finding the video on YouTube seven years later...
Unfortunately I just learned that Alex's sound men add recorded tracks to the mix for a richer sound----so that a second guitarist doesn't have to be on stage. I think that's a shame. I would never do that. Bring another guitarist on stage fer christsakes! hehhehe
On the new tour, Alex is pairing his PRS Guitars with Orange cabs and heads for certain shows. I haven't heard them together yet, but that combo gives me chills. It sounds like it'd be incredible :)
@juanjoThrash Hey brother, don´t feel yourself bad, with this! We´re all latins, blood brothers right! There will dates here in Brazil, São Paulo 08/10 and RIO 10/10. I think Chile, also will have an alive perform too! Would be a bit, closer to you right?! Don´t loose the oportunity, life´s too short! Enjoy it my fellow! RUSH = )
You are the product of how your environment has shaped the genes you were born with, nothing more. Anyone else who had been born with your genes and lived your life would have made the same choices you have made. Dont kid yourself. Free will is a crock of shit!
@IRONMAIDENFAN1995 I think Rush is pretty good. I just think Free Will as a CONCEPT is bullshit. "SPIRIT OF THE READIO" is one of my favorite songs of all time!
@TheMelodiousOne0921 Geddy once joked in an interview that when he is onstage he like to have soft warm towels. Seriously though he runs his bass signal through 3 different amps and effects racks to get his sound so I guess its more convenient for him to do this, and at the end of the gigs there are special t shirts and things in the dryers which they throw out into the crowd.
The bottom line I guess is Geddy does it just because he can:)
@WartedTomcat1 i think it's about how people act in the grand scheme of things. that some people believe that they aren't responsible for their acts but fate is, therefore they aren't responsible for their actions. this song faces the fact that we are all under free will and embraces it.
@Joeysmynewfavdrummer exactly, then geddy urns around is like wtf? then realizes the lyrics start up agen in a sec and gets back on the mic. gotta love rush
I like the way they sung this, in my personal opinion it sounds a little better then the one on the album. Their voices have aged a little and they just fit the song perfectly... plus the playing is a little different.
@TayThrash077 For a while now instead of the huge amps geddy used to use for his bass, he now uses some type of sound system, and the stage looked empty so they put the big dryers on stage to fill in the room where the amps used to be, and they sometimes take the rush shirts out of the dryers and throw them into the crowd.
@TFIFH actually there are dryers not washing machine, Geddy Lee now uses in ear monitors so he needed to fill his side of the stage with something and thought, why not dryers ? ... the dryers are full of RUSH shirts and are tossed into the audience at the end of the show ... all nice n' warm! how cool is that ?
No disrespect intended as i think geddy is the most talented bassist on earth atm but at 4:38ish he looks like beavis. This was not a serious post merely an observation dont bother flaming me
@bassplayer20orange Geddy doesn't have speakers and amps, he plays directly into the PA -- so they put the washers and dryers to take up the space where his gear would be
@rick4adk Actually, Geddy DOES have a backline, but it's small. Does he patch directly into the PA. No. He goes through the usually array of effects and other equipment before going into his cabinet, which is small. It's mics and it's patched into a mixer off-stage. Then it goes to FOH before the PA.
I saw an interview once where he was asked about the tumble dryers his answer was "i like warm fluffy towels" obviously a joke but I do know that Geddy still uses a back line of sorts just that its hidden and in those tumble dryers are usually specially made tshirts that they throw out at the end of gigs. Great band Great musicians :)
what a lewd light, like someone shed a shade hop I'm late hop power. Or it may have been so storybook childly hazy, i wow how rusty and rivandel , these pristine machines played in the dirty pre-ordained fog of... long low lower , deeper lower, flizzlediggbet.
@Tata996 It´s more about the player than the rig. The important thing here is that Alex Lifeson is an incredibly capable guitarist, not that he´s using a certain guitar/amp setup.

he plugs direct to board now to bypass sound quality issues and needed something to take his amps space, he dicided to use washers and dryers (coin op) and him and alex and throw the special shirts(rush shirts that are specific to the dryer) to the crowd at the end of shows... i think it's hilarious
Because the bass amp is no where near the size of all the guitar amps that Alex uses, Geddy uses vending machines, washing machines, and rotisserie chicken cookers to make his side of the stage even with Alex's side. When a band as good as RUSH comes around, they can do crazy shit like that.
They do it to fill up space just like fight4yafreedomsaid. They also do it because of their good since of humor, and so people will ask, "Why do they have dryers in the background?" =)
I would like to say that the band mentioned are not really in the same genre. Metallica, Iron Madien, and AC/DC are Metal bands. RUSH, Yes, and the Alan Parsons Project are more of a Progressive sound. But in regards to Talent, I agree completely of the underratedness and thos bads I mentioned are in the RRHF. RUSH is not....yet.
Really? Whoa, where do you live buddy? I gotta move where there's more Rush fans, here in my town there's barely anyone who actually likes rock n roll/heavy metal!
@higma1467 Idk what you meant by that, but if you ask 10 people about Iron Maiden, they will, of course, know them. Now if you those same 10 people abut Rush, probably a few of them knows Rush.

maaan, Rush is so underrated compared to Iron Maiden, Metallica, and those monster bands...
Still Rush is better than both!

@darknessgodzamorak

Why everyone else uses the same excuse of "they're nore the same genre"?? OF COURSE they're not! I gave an example of famous bands...that's all mate.

@darknessgodzamorak well yeah seeing as Rush is the most common reply when other musicians are asked who their main influences are.
Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, and John Myung to name a few bassist who have said Geddy Lee, and pretty much all drummers include Neil

Really? Whoa, where do you live buddy? I gotta move where there's more Rush fans, here in my town there's barely anyone who actually likes rock n roll/heavy metal!

@darknessgodzamorak Iron Maiden is highly rated?
higma1467 1 year ago
@higma1467 Idk what you meant by that, but if you ask 10 people about Iron Maiden, they will, of course, know them. Now if you those same 10 people abut Rush, probably a few of them knows Rush.
