I was blessed to be introduced to these Masters at an early age thanks to Synphony Sid, in NYC on the radio (late night) in the sixties. A small transitor radio pressed to my ear under the covers @ 10 years old. Now I'm twice bless to see these Masters on YouTube.

In my humble opinion, Perico is the best Puertorican trumpet player ever. His solo on Fania All Star song "En Orbita" is just killer, amazing. Thanks for posting this video.

Now this is Dave of old, and of course, the magic of Perico O! What a genius this man is. Fania was lucky to have this guy for as long as they did. What an amazing talent too. No better trumpet did they ever have. I don't care what anyone says. Dave's sound here is amazing and impeccable, unlike some of the other stuff in some of the other vids here. Dave almost seems off and lazy to play.

Who is the best trumpet player? Difficult to say, but Perico is in the top ten definetely...

Oh yeah, magical... Mr. Perico Ortiz has always been way ahead of his time, check out all his albums - even the salsa tunes were arranged in advanced/jazz sophistication. He truely is Un genio musical!
