To legally buy one, you must be a citizen of the US, over 21, and NOT be a felon... and reside in a state that allows them (like TN or NC, for example)

@jaddriscoll Sometimes they do, but if you have elevated sights or use a suppressor with an off-center bore (meaning the suppressor hangs down below the bore, and does not rise above it any more than a normal slide rises above the bore) then you can still use the sights just fine. Nutn reviewed one of the offset silencer manufacturers IIRC.

Here's a question - so let's say you've got a friend who legally owns a suppressor and has the associated tax stamp with it. Does your friend have to be present when you're using the suppressor so that you don't get hauled away to Federal prison? Now they in theory require a permit.. in practice if you own one gun, any gun, you can have any number of suppressors for any guns. People with air rifle suppressors are in gray area right now because the law is a steaming pile of vague.
