  • The keyboard guy is doubling the bass part on a synth.

  • Thank You !!!! The talent of E.W. can never be surpassed.

  • EW is the definition of a musician.

  • One of my all time favorites. Thank's for the post.

  • Love this song. Thanks for the upload. I'll go check out the recent Greatest hits CD that just got released.

  • Right you are Quay Lewd!

    Thanks for the correction.

    Best,

    dml

  • Calice que t laite. Mais toé, t'en joues du saxophone <3<3

  • Fabulous song! Great writing, vocals, all-around musicianship.. Edgar Winter is multii-talented and surrounds himself with the very same :-)

  • This is from "Don Kirschner's Rock Concert" from late '73 early '74. Dan is playing synth bass on an Arp Odyssey synthesizer in addition to playing the piano part on Edgar's Univox electronic piano. This is Edgar's composition and he sang the vocal on the lp Shock Treatment as well.

    Best,

    dml

  • @DMLinNYC One minor correction...Dan Hartman wrote the song according to the credits from both the vinyl album (bought it when it came out) and the cd.

  • Total - Musicanship - Wow I Have neve seen this number done live - Genius Level

  • As you say - the Top of the Tree - This is it

  • does anybody know when this show took place?

  • what a wonderful voice

  • These guys are so talented! They were no joke!

  • That's what I always thought, but I just saw a video with Rick singing and it sounded very close to the original, so it got me thinking, but thanks for the confirmation.

  • I've got front row for this year's Ringo Starr tour. With Edjar and Rick both on tap, it's gonna be a great show. I'm wonder who actually samg Free Ride, was it Dan H or Rick?

    AC

  • @wiztstar - Dan Hartman sang it on the original recording.

  • great memories of the very talented edgar winter group.thanx!

  • Dan Edgar Rick could Funk with the Best of EM!

  • My favourite number of all time - brilliant perfornance

  • He plays that sax solo NOTE for NOTE from the album---I know -- I memorized it 30+ yrs ago---there are no live performers around anymore like what we had back in the day--this band was stacked with tallent

  • Along with his amazing songwriting & multi-instrumental skills, Edgar is one of the greatest singers ever! Great Dan Hartman tune. Band sounds great.

  • I love Edgar Winter and his voice is as perfect in this video as it was on the record. Better, even. What a great band The Edgar Winter Group was. Shock Treatment is a great album !

  • DIDDO! Shock Treatment is a jewel. Bought it shortly after it came out. I'll never forget how excited I was to get that record before I even heard a single tune. 14 years old. I'm listening to it again for the first time in years. Easy Street was always a favorite.

  • damn he can sing! I'd like to hear him in a band with Gregg Allman.

  • I stayed up the better part of a night shooting the breeze and playing pool with Edgar right around the time of this album. He was a regular guy besides being a consummate musician. He actually offered to jam with me then and there, but we had no place do it. Damn, talk about frustration.

  • Man, this takes me back. I think life was easier back in the days of the Winter Bothers and Co. God Bless all for the great music and memories! Go Johnny Go! and Edgar too.

  • Great song, I'm glad it's on the 'tube! Thanks for posting it!

This is one of those bands where rock and roll meets great musicianship!

And I dig those mutton chops, too :)

  • Reminds me of being woop woop bringing back memeories...ha

  • Thank you so much for posting.

  • Great song, great band. Saw them a few times in early 70's. There was a bank of speakers above the crowd near the front that wasn't used until Frankenstein, then wow, cranked them up. Easy street is one of my favorites, and Edgar can really play that sax. Thanks KROGG

  • No kidding!!! I didn't know Rick played bass and Dan played keys on this till now. I'm a huge Dan Hartman fan - He wrote 6 of the 11 songs on this LP(Shock Treatment)cowrote 2 more, and sang lead vocals on 5 songs.

Also a huge Rick Derringer fan. Met him after a show in San Diego around '95. Real nice guy!

  • I doubt that there is an instrument on earth that Dan couldn't play. That man had music in his blood. And Rick, forget about it. I've spoke with Rick two times and he is a real down to earth guy. I never even saw or met Dan. I've seen Edgar a zillion times (I live in Texas) but have yet to meet him. A friend of mine played in his band for about six months and said he was one of the coolest and FUNNIEST guys on the planet. His rule was take the music serious but not yourself. Have a laugh.

  • Edgar has a saying he uses in his shows where he says someone once told him to lighten up and he took the advice and look what happened to him!! :) Edgar is just a good ol'boy out of South Texas. According to my friend he has no ego, no pretense, no "I'm a star" attitude. None of it. He eats with the crew. Hangs out with his band. Always jamming or working on his craft. He's just like you wish all stars would be. He knows he's lucky to be doing what he's doing. He does Texas proud.

  • The same goes for Johnny. I'm friends with both of 'em and they're great down to Earth guys as well as representing the tippy top of the entire musical spectrum. They do the human race proud!

  • @bassandguitarguy dan played the arp bass on this..Its a key bass keyyboard made by arp in the early 70s

  • I love the bass part Rick plays on this song. Slip' slidin' all over the neck. And Edgar's sax work as usual give me gooseflesh. This band was so badass.
