we used a video camera hooked up to a mac and used a program called iStopMotion so we could hit the spacebar every time we wanted a frame captured instead of touching the camera button each time and wiggling the camera all around.

we used a program called iStopMotion, i think it's around $30 or so, we just used the school laptops it was on.

we just used a video camera on a tripod to take 15 pictures for each second, and then iStopMotion turns it into a quicktime file for you.
