@dennisholly73 if you're talking of phelps, it's because he was classically trained, meaning, operatic singing. the styles are different, but the technique remains the same, across all vocal styles.

David & Guy both have trememdous voices. And I believe they live for God. It shows in their singing. I do like David in the Southern Gospel genere. He has gone on to record and perform his own style. Which, to me does't give forth the exuberation he has when he sings the Southern Gospel. But then I am older and Southern Gospel is my favorite in all Christian music. I feel lives are being touched each time any of these guys sing for the Lord. Praise the Lord

If you are not an a follower of this genre of muysic (and I must admit I stumbled on it by accident) you can make a strong argument that David Phelps most likely has one of the greatest voices in modern history. I am absolutely blown away with his range, passion and effect.
